[Bug 1462208] Re: Roaming neccessary even in national home mobile network with two SIM cards.
This is caused by bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ofono/+bug/1449990 . O2 Germany recently merged with E-Plus and created a National Roaming Network out of both networks. Ubuntu has no support for National Roaming, and Michael seems to be in a spot where his phone correctly chooses to roam to the E-Plus Network (shows up as o2-de+ in the screenshot) because of better coverage. So he ends up with both SIMs in Roaming mode. As I wrote in the other bug, this will only get worse over time because we already have lots of markets with National Roaming, the bq phones have two SIM slots and the EU plans to abolish Roaming fees. So we need support for National Roaming in the short-term (Android has it already, so there should be source code lying around) and more fine-grained control over Roaming in the long-term. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1462208 Title: Roaming neccessary even in national home mobile network with two SIM cards. [Bug 1473246] [NEW] MediaTek Preloader on a mobile device triggers cdc_acm kernel module usage by ModemManager
Public bug reported: This is an interesting bug that is triggered under some circumstances if one of the official, MediaTek-SoC-based Ubuntu phones is connected to a Linux host via USB. Tested host: Ubuntu 15.04 Desktop, kernel 3.19.0-21-generic, package linux-image-generic 3.19.0.22.21 amd64, package modemmanager 1.4.0-1 Tested phones: Meizu MX4 (arale) and bq Aquaris E4.5 (krillin), image version irrelevant because the Preloader comes with all devices and cannot be changed How to reproduce, possibility 1: 1. Disconnect the USB connection, if necessary. 2. Turn off the phone. 3. Connect the phone via USB. It will take a bit and then turn on, displaying the charge animation. How to reproduce, possibility 2: 1. Reboot the phone while it is still attached to the host. The kernel ringbuffer will contain the following log messages (example for krillin): [288774.244158] usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 22 using xhci_hcd [288774.373589] usb 1-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0e8d, idProduct=2000 [288774.373593] usb 1-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0 [288774.373594] usb 1-1: Product: MT65xx Preloader [288774.373596] usb 1-1: Manufacturer: MediaTek [288774.435247] cdc_acm 1-1:1.1: ttyACM26: USB ACM device [288774.874607] usb 1-1: USB disconnect, device number 22 [288774.874755] cdc_acm 1-1:1.1: failed to set dtr/rts And syslog will contain the following log messages: Jul 10 00:58:07 fire ModemManager[1103]: info (tty/ttyACM27): released by modem /sys/devices/pci:00/:00:14.0/usb1/1-1 Jul 10 00:58:10 fire ModemManager[1103]: warn (Plugin Manager) (Iridium) [ttyACM27] error when checking support: '(Iridium) Missing port probe for port (tty/ttyACM27)' Jul 10 00:58:10 fire ModemManager[1103]: warn (Plugin Manager) (Cinterion) [ttyACM27] error when checking support: '(Cinterion) Missing port probe for port (tty/ttyACM27)' Jul 10 00:58:10 fire ModemManager[1103]: warn (Plugin Manager) (Nokia) [ttyACM27] error when checking support: '(Nokia) Missing port probe for port (tty/ttyACM27)' Jul 10 00:58:10 fire ModemManager[1103]: warn (Plugin Manager) (Generic) [ttyACM27] error when checking support: '(Generic) Missing port probe for port (tty/ttyACM27)' Jul 10 00:58:10 fire ModemManager[1103]: warn Couldn't find support for device at '/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:14.0/usb1/1-1': not supported by any plugin The allocated ttyACMx device is never freed, and after a couple of days developing on the phone (with lots of phone restarts) I've noticed that my machine has accumulated an usage count of 58: $ lsmod | grep cdc_acm cdc_acm36864 58 lsof show that ModemManager still holds the devices: # sudo lsof | grep ACM ModemMana 9214 root9u CHR 166,1 0t07599355 /dev/ttyACM1 (deleted) ModemMana 9214 root 10u CHR 166,0 0t07596974 /dev/ttyACM0 (deleted) ... Restarting ModemManager immediately reduces the usage count to 0 again and frees all devices. Why does this happen? Luckily I've read the MediaTek Preloader source code. The Preloader is the first-stage bootloader on MediaTek SoCs and exposes a proprietary USB interface that can be used for debugging purposes and to download firmware to the device. The implementation of this interface is rudimentary and emulates a CDC ACM serial port, which probably doesn't fully conform to the standard and also just falls from the bus after a short amount of time if the host doesn't initiate the proprietary protocol. So I think the kernel and ModemManager immediately try to use the emulated device when it becomes available, but because the implementation in the Preloader is incomplete some bug (timeout?) is triggered and ModemManager never closes the device. Sadly I don't have the expertise to decide if this is a bug in ModemManager or the kernel or both, so I file it with ModemManager. ** Affects: modemmanager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1473246 Title: MediaTek Preloader on a mobile device triggers cdc_acm kernel module usage by ModemManager To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/modemmanager/+bug/1473246/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1467932] [NEW] eventstat output suddenly accounts kernel threads as userspace processes after a prolonged amount of time
Public bug reported: I was running eventstat for about ten minutes (568 samples at a rate of one sample per second) on the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu phone (arale) and created a kernel/userspace distribution graph out of the Total events summary lines. On the graph it looked like the total number of events per second always repeated about the same pattern, but after 221 samples there was a huge spike and after that the distribution suddenly flipped: A reduction in events accounted to the kernel was exactly matched by an increase in events attributed to userspace. I found an explaination in the attached logfile. Let's first look at line 4748: 20.00 17594 [kworker/0:2] OSTimerWorkQueueCallBack OSTimerCallbackWrapper Then line 4765 below: 4440.00 17594 kworker/0:2 OSTimerWorkQueueCallBack OSTimerCallbackWrapper Notice that the event number is about 200 times the actual value (this timer runs at a fixed rate of 20 events/s) and the Task field no longer includes brackets, indicating that the entry is no longer counted as a kernel thread. The change in the Total events summary lines match this observation. All lines after the spike then look like this: 20.00 17594 kworker/0:2 OSTimerWorkQueueCallBack OSTimerCallbackWrapper I suspect that the internal data structures get corrupted somehow after a prolonged amount of time. ** Affects: eventstat (Ubuntu) Importance: High Status: In Progress ** Attachment added: eventstat-arale https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1467932/+attachment/4419368/+files/eventstat-arale -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1467932 Title: eventstat output suddenly accounts kernel threads as userspace processes after a prolonged amount of time To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eventstat/+bug/1467932/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1449990] Re: National Data Roaming
This now affects the MX4 (arale) and Aquaris E5 (vegetahd) as well. I would like to make a case to rise the importance of this bug to something higher than Wishlist. Ubuntu currently has no way to generally disable Roaming, my phones are constantly roaming to the other national network when a tower with better service is in range, and the data connection drops. So I am forced to enable Data Roaming to keep the data connection alive, which I then have to remember to turn off every time I come near a border or cross a border. I travel a lot and live near the french border :/ The solution for this is in the Android codebase. If I put the same SIM in my Nexus 5 with Android 4.4.4, everything works automagically. I don't even have to enable Roaming at all, the phone switches between both networks as if they were a single one. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1449990 Title: National Data Roaming To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1449990/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1467219] Re: QAudioRecorder fails to start recording
Setting up the environment for the sample code needs a bit more work, you also have to add the microphone AppArmor policy and add QtMultimedia to the dependencies. I built a working QtCreator project around it and pushed it to to my Launchpad github repository: lp:~sturmflut/+git/bug-1467219 I can confirm this bug, on my 15.04 development desktop the code fails after a couple of repetitions. [Bug 1449990] Re: National Data Roaming on the bq Aquaris E4.5
My thoughts on this: - Network mergers have already happened and seem to become more common, especially in joint markets like the EU. So this is not going to go away. - The providers have explicitly decided to go for national roaming instead of handing out new SIM cards or creating a new, larger, joint network. In many cases existing customers can only get a replacement SIM for a fee. - How is this intended to work correctly, and how do other platforms handle it? People are telling me that they can use national roaming between o2 and e-Plus here in Germany with their Android devices without even having to enable roaming at all. They just had to restart their phone once and after that if automagically worked. Apparently older Android version had a Enable National Roaming switch, but it was removed, so was the process automated, and if yes, how? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1449990 Title: National Data Roaming on the bq Aquaris E4.5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ofono/+bug/1449990/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1449990] [NEW] National Data Roaming on the bq Aquaris E4.5
Public bug reported: Situation: German mobile network operator o2-de (MCC 262, MNC 07) has merged with another operator, e-Plus (MCC 262, MNC 03). Both operators have decided to allow national roaming between their networks for all customers and for all services (phone calls, SMS, data). The other network appears to the customer with the name of their original, provider, but an added plus sign, e.g. if you're an o2-de customer the e-Plus network will appear as o2-de+ to you. Expected behavior: The bq Aquaris E4.5 roams into the other network if necessary and all services are available. Ideally the device would not even go into real roaming mode because national roaming is different from international roaming. Actual behavior: The bq Aquaris E4.5 roams into the other network and mobile data is deactivated because the phone does not differentiate between national and international roaming. The mobile data roaming switch has to be explicitely enabled, which can cause problems for the user since the phone supports two SIM cards. Complications: - Both operators are changing their networks during live operation, other phones have problems too. - There is a long list of MVNOs and every one of them has to adapt to the changes too. For example I have a SIM card by o2-de MVNO netzclub in my bq phone and the network list now also shows the expected netzclub+ entry, roaming to it works. On the other hand I have a SIM card by e-Plus MVNO MEDIONmobile in my Android Nexus 5 and there the network list does not show the expected MEDIONmobile+ entry, but just an entry for o2-de, and I cannot roam to o2-de even if I force it. Notes: II think there should be a similar situation in Sweden, where operators Tele2 and Telenor created a shared 4G network, and there are probably other countries with comparable setups. Debugging data: - I added the output of /usr/share/ofono/scripts/list-operators on the bq phone. - I added two outputs of /usr/share/ofono/scripts/list-modems on the bq phone, once while connected to my original netzclub MVNO network and once while roaming in the netzclub+ network. All personal data has been removed, but I am willing to share it in private. ** Affects: ofono (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: system-image-cli.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1449990/+attachment/4387490/+files/system-image-cli.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1449990 Title: National Data Roaming on the bq Aquaris E4.5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ofono/+bug/1449990/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Half a second. Exactly the missing time we are looking for. So I pressed the power button to turn off the screen, waited a couple of seconds to allow the system go to sleep, and did the following: root@ubuntu-phablet:~# time echo on /sys/power/state real0m0.545s user0m0.000s sys 0m0.000s Something in the kernel seems to take roughly half a second to wake up. I looked at the Documentation/power/states.txt file of the Linux kernel and was am a bit confused: There should be only four valid values one can write to /sys/power/state, namely mem, standby, freeze and disk. On the bq phone the file contains mem disk, so only those two states are available. I found out that on seems to be an accepted value on Android kernels only. So the root of the problem my lie in kernel land at the end. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1421455 Title: Slow wake up time on physical power button pressed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/powerd/+bug/1421455/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1448544] [NEW] [MIR] SDL_Init() crashes on the bq Aquaris E4.5 phone
Public bug reported: Device: bq Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition Environment: Ubuntu 14.10 (r21) libSDL2 has been ported to Mir and the Mir backend should therefore work on the phone too. libSDL2 is not shipped with the device's system image, so I built libSDL2 manually on the device, copied the resulting files over and shipped the shared object as part of the Click package. The desktop file references a shell script which sets the needed LD_LIBRARY_PATH and then calls the actual binary. So far, so good. The binary kept crashing with a segmentation fault in its call to SDL_Init(SDL_INIT_VIDEO). For some reason I managed to get it working a single time (see the attached screenshot) after trying enough times, in all other cases it would crash. [Bug 1448180] [NEW] QGeoSatelliteInfoSource::createDefaultSource() returns NULL on the bq phone
Public bug reported: Device: bq Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition Operating System: Ubuntu 14.10 (r21) I am currently trying to build a clone of the GPS Status Android app, it displays various details about the built-in GPS receiver. According to the developer documentation at http://developer.ubuntu.com/api/qml/sdk-14.10/QtLocation.location- positioning-cpp/ , a call to QGeoSatelliteInfoSource::createDefaultSource() can be used to get access to the default Satellite positioning source implementation. On my device this call returns NULL. Sample code is located at https://github.com/Sturmflut/ubuntu-touch- simple-gps/tree/3da3dc5f089e698c34765fd18322b84727cb13ae , the call in question is located at backend/modules/Simplegps/gpsdataprovider.cpp . [Bug 1425290] Re: Reading from /sys/devices/system/cpaccess/cpaccess0/cp_rw crashes the Nexus 4
I did some research and noticed that this only seems to happen on the Nexus 4. [Bug 1425290] [NEW] Reading from /sys/devices/system/cpaccess/cpaccess0/cp_rw crashes the Nexus 4
Public bug reported: I noticed that my Nexus 4 crashed while doing a grep 1 -r / in an adb shell as user phablet. After narrowing it down, it looks like I can reliably crash my device by just doing a cat /sys/devices/system/cpaccess/cpaccess0/cp_rw as a normal user. After doing it about three times, all aspects of the device still work as expected, but it no longer identifies itself via USB, not even when in recovery mode. This might be a different issue, but it has never happened before, so I do think it might have been caused by the crashes. ** Affects: linux-mako (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1425290 Title: Reading from /sys/devices/system/cpaccess/cpaccess0/cp_rw crashes the Nexus 4 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-mako/+bug/1425290/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1422020] Re: Jekyll doesn't work at all.
This bug was also reported as https://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=756845 . It can be boiled down to the following necessary changes: 1. Open /usr/lib/ruby/vendor_ruby/jekyll/converters/sass.rb 2. Add require 'jekyll/converters/scss' at the top, after require 'jekyll/utils' 3. Install the ruby-mercenary package, as reported in Launchpad bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jekyll/+bug/1382984 . After these three steps jekyll works for me on a stock Ubuntu 14.10 installation. ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #756845 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=756845 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1422020 Title: Jekyll doesn't work at all. [Bug 1356566] Re: Image distortion and low framerate when using WebGL on Nexus devices
I tried HexGL today on the same Nexus 4 (mako), now on stable Image r15. Using the Mobile and Low quality settings, the display flickers maybe once every ten seconds.
