[Bug 1870240] [NEW] [HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH, playback] Gnome settings does not display / detect rear/front headset

2020-04-01 Thread Sindhudweep Sarkar
Public bug reported:

Gnome-settings does not display the front panel / headset as an output
device, only the displayport audio outputs are shown. See the attached
screenshot.

ubuntu-bug does however play stereo sound out of the headset during the
test procedure. I'm not sure this is a bug in alsa unless it's related
to an autodetect or configuration issue.

This is on a intel 10th gen NUC,

[Bug 1315426] Re: nginx not built as position independent

2015-04-01 Thread Sindhudweep Sarkar
Why bother having nginx in main? It should have been hardened as a
blocking bug when the MIR was originally put out
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nginx/+bug/1262710) .

Is it even meaningful to compare the speed of apache with nginx if one
is build with pie and one is not? I respect that this could represent a
performance regression for precise but this really should go into vivid,
vivid + 1 and 16.04 LTS.

[Bug 647609] Re: gnash in Firefox not displaying flash content

2010-12-04 Thread Sindhudweep Sarkar
Hi Christopher,

>From comment #6 it sounds like you cleared your http cookies via the
browser. I believe that doesn't clear the "Flash Cookies".

I think flash cookies have the extension .sol (Shared Objects Local?).
and you can list the flash cookies by using the command

$ soldumper -l.

Soldumper is part of the gnash-tools package. This should let you
confirm if clearing cookies via your browser is actually clearing the
flash cookies. Unfortunately I can't remember how to actually clear
flash cookies.

As a side note and slightly off topic, other plugins may implement their
own cookies too. Silverlight is one example. The folks at evercookie
http://samy.pl/evercookie/ use these various local persistence
mechanisms to make a piece of data that is very hard to remove.

The only difference is when i switch from vt1 -> vt7 and login (in gdm)
x/gdm will restart after a few seconds. x/gdm lives after the second

[Bug 533556] Re: maximize/minimize/close buttons are on wrong side of titlebar

2010-03-06 Thread Sindhudweep Sarkar
I think this is an active choice by the ubuntu developers.

It might be a bug because:
  1. It's not the existing behavior, and I'm not sure that a left alignment is
an improvement for most ubuntu users (it may be and improvement for readers of
left to right languages though, assuming they have not used windows, gnome or
kde previously.).

 2. The most used button [x] is not on a corner and is thus less
accessible. Many users will double click on the title bar to maximize,
so it probably doesnt deserve the corner position.

 3. The concave look is terrible with windows that don't have a maximize
button. For an example open gnome-calculator.

[Bug 525282] [NEW] thunar has a broken watch file; patch attached

2010-02-21 Thread Sindhudweep Sarkar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunar

This was submitted here instead of upstream since it seems that thunar
is managed with bzr in launchpad. I will attach a branch in case this is
simpler than applying a patch.

[Bug 522254] Re: [MASTER] FFe: please sync with upstream version of Gnash .8.7

2010-02-15 Thread Sindhudweep Sarkar
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnash

Gnash 0.8.7 was released. See http://www.gnashdev.org/?q=node/73 for the
  notice.

This package is not a copy of the debian gnash package, but is maintained in
launchpad with bzr.
lp:~sindhudweep-sarkar/gnash/gnash0.8.7packaging has the changes necessary to
package gnash 0.8.7

  Benefits:
  From upstream:
"Improvements since the 0.8.6 release are:

  * Automatic and spontaneous screenshots support in all GUIs
  * Significant memory savings in parsing large XML trees and in
  some function calls
  * Enhancements in video streaming
  * Non blocking load of bitmaps, movies, data
  * Refactoring to eliminate most static data and get closer to
  re-entrant VM
  * Cygnal now supports multiple network connections, handling
  multiple video streams
  * Cygnal now supports plugins for server side scripting in
  C/C++ "

Gnash developers usually are more interested in bugs from recent
versions of gnash. Packaging 0.8.7 in an LTS release means there is a
greater chance that bugs can be relevant and forwarded to upstream.

  Risks:
- * ships new shared object library libgnashagg.so.0.0.0 which seems to be
mostly a re factoring of the existing shared libraries. The rest of the
packaging changes should be benign cleanup and fixes for other bugs.

[Bug 452256] [NEW] eSATA storage devices do not automount whereas USB storage devices do.

2009-10-15 Thread Sindhudweep Sarkar
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
 1. Start Ubuntu
 2. Log in to a gnome session.
 3. Plug in and power up an external eSATA drive.
 4. No automouting takes place.

Expected behavior:
External drive automounts much as a external usb drive or flash drive would.

Issues:
  * Chipsets may not differentiate between eSATA and regular sata ports.
  * Some chipsets may not like hotplugging.

[Bug 433721] Re: [karmic] Wireless Networking broken on acer aspire one with Karmic

2009-10-06 Thread Sindhudweep Sarkar
Oops my bad I didn't see that gavin reported this problem before the
22nd when 2.6.31-10-generic #35 was built.

When i try to install an older kernel,

sre...@sreyan-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install linux-image-2.6.31-9-generic
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package linux-image-2.6.31-9-generic is not available, but is referred to by
another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package linux-image-2.6.31-9-generic has no installation candidate

Is there anyway to trick apt to think that package is there? or do i
have to dig out that package and use dpkg to install it?

[Bug 433721] Re: [karmic] Wireless Networking broken on acer aspire one with Karmic

2009-10-06 Thread Sindhudweep Sarkar
I have a karmic install upgraded from jaunty (with older grub).

>From dmesg on a "bad" kernel
uname -a:
Linux sreyan-laptop 2.6.31-11-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 2 11:55:55 UTC
2009 i686 GNU/Linux

possibly relevant dmesg lines:
[   10.772300] Registered led device: iwl-phy0::radio
[   10.772365] Registered led device: iwl-phy0::assoc
[   10.772429] Registered led device: iwl-phy0::RX
[   10.772490] Registered led device: iwl-phy0::TX
[ 10.813573] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready

I tried the kernel before that:
Linux sreyan-laptop 2.6.31-10-generic #35-Ubuntu SMP Tue Sep 22 17:33:42 UTC
2009 i686 GNU/Linux

[ 11.324729] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready

and I still see the bad behavior, though prior to updating and
restarting last night I was not experiencing this issue.

For what it's worth, the nm-applet displays wireless connections that i
know exist nearby so i'm not sure it's a kernel problem. Lastly I have a
different wireless card intel wifi 5300 than the standard AR5007 so I
don't think it's an ath5k issue. I also have acer_wmi blacklisted from
LP: #319825 so i don't think it's a repeat of that.

it's solely a kernel issue."

[Bug 435897] Re: [MASTER] FFe: please sync with upstream version of Gnash .8.6

2009-10-01 Thread Sindhudweep Sarkar
Till the official package is released, there is a build of 0.8.6 in the
gnash team ppa. See https://edge.launchpad.net/~gnash/+archive/ppa.

Known Issues:
  * Due to a brain fart on my part I didn't correctly choose a ppa version
number so the official karmic package will not supersede the ppa. Use at your
own risk.

Additional Request for Testing:
Unfortunately I think the ppa builders don't exist/work for arm, mips, and ppc
which are the usual platforms I'm concerned about for flash support. I'd
appreciate it if someone with an Frescale i.MX 51 or omap 3xxx board could test
this package.

[Bug 435230] [NEW] udev exits with non zero exit code and ubuntu fails to finish booting.

2009-09-23 Thread Sindhudweep Sarkar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

After updating last night to udev 147~-4 and sysvinit 2.87dsf-4ubuntu7
my machine fails to finish booting. I think it's not mounting the
filesystems correctly. I am using ext4 with the default partition
layout.

possible workarounds/how to apply fix?
Grub's menu is inaccessible as there is no wait following this upgrade so i
can't manually tell init to do something else. I'm at a loss as to what I can
do other than chroot in with an install disk to fix this if a fix is released.
I'm not even sure how to get at dmesg or any other logs without being able to
edit grub's configuration.

I have attached an image of the symptoms that an end user sees in this
scenario.

Re: [Bug 318849] Re: Deprecated klash kde3 binaries removed and not replaced with gnash-kde4

2009-04-13 Thread Sindhudweep Sarkar
I have to incorporate some suggestions from Tomasz and talk to
upstream about a question I have. Following that I'll have to get some
review time from the package maintainer, and I'm guessing he's
extremely busy right now given how late it is in the release cycle.

[Bug 296267] Re: FFe: Please sync with upstream version of Midori to the latest version, the current version is very unstable alpha

2009-04-06 Thread Sindhudweep Sarkar
My mistake, the owner of the ppa split out midori into it's own ppa,
which depends on the webkit ppa.

https://edge.launchpad.net/~midori/+archive/ppa

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: midori

The version of Midori that ships with jaunty is 0.1.2. While far more
stable that 0.0.18, it is still an alpha quality release. 0.1.4
incorporates many fixes, and appears to be regression free in comparison
  to 0.1.2.

Debian unstable currently uses 0.1.4. Apart from the benefits of being
in sync with debian, the upstream developer looks at bugs on the latest
stable release before he looks at older releases which have possibly
  fixed bugs.

+ If you want to test the latest version of midori and webkit add the
+ WebKit Team and Midori PPAs

  -- Original Description -
  Binary package hint: midori

The version of Midori which comes with Xubuntu 8.10 is 0.0.18. It is a
very unstable release. The browser will crash all the time. When you are
loading webpages, closes or opening tabs. It will just crash
  unexpectedly.

Please upgrade the package to the latest version, 0.1.4

[Bug 296267] Re: FFe: Please sync with upstream version of Midori to the latest version, the current version is very unstable alpha

2009-04-06 Thread Sindhudweep Sarkar
Some testing has been done using the packages in this ppa:
https://edge.launchpad.net/~webkit-team/+archive/ppa.

WRT to the issues about the lateness in the cycle, most of the changes
in Midori are new features, which in theory can't regress. Upgrading
webkit this late in the cycle might be more of a concern. At this point
a backport for Midori might be the best option.

Hmm maybe i made a versioning mistake. I assumed 0.8.5-0ubuntu1 would

2009-04-06 Thread Sindhudweep Sarkar
The konqueror plugin is a _seperate_ packaging issue, and I will be
dealing with that later.

This is what you should see in the package

./
usr/
usr/bin/
usr/bin/kde4-gnash
usr/bin/gnash
usr/share/
usr/share/doc/
usr/share/doc/klash/
usr/share/doc/klash/changelog.gz
usr/share/doc/klash/changelog.Debian.gz
usr/share/doc/klash/copyright
usr/share/pixmaps/
usr/share/pixmaps/klash.xpm
usr/share/applications/
usr/share/applications/klash.desktop

unless I am terribly mistaken, kde4-gnash is there. please test.
