*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 352358 ***

This still seems to be an issue in 10.10. Isn't there a command that
launches KPackageKit with specific packages to install? I thought I'd
seen this in other areas where there were buttons that would do nothing
without them being installed.

Anyway, installed kdenetwork-filesharing, samba and deleted the kdecache
and it worked.

[Bug 449744] Re: Firefox crashes when attempting to load Firebug 1.5 alphas

2009-10-13 Thread Sir_Brizz
Okay... so the question is, where do I go for help?

Firebug refuses to help me because this is a custom build of Firefox
that doesn't have a Crash Reporter and so they can't find where the
issue is.

Firefox won't help me because they don't support custom builds of
Firefox (all they told me was that they should figure out a way to get
Crash Reporter working for custom builds).

And now the package maintainer won't help me because I'm using an
unstable version of the extension.

As I said in my report, this is working fine in the 32-bit Mozilla
release, and thus it is highly unlikely that the Firebug team will ever
try to diagnose and resolve this issue before 1.5 releases. The 1.5
alpha builds are extremely stable and have some features that really
make my life easier.

[Bug 449744] [NEW] Firefox crashes when attempting to load Firebug 1.5 alphas

2009-10-12 Thread Sir_Brizz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

I am trying to use alpha versions for the latest Firebug, 1.5. These can
be retrieved from:

http://getfirebug.com/releases/firebug/1.5X/

I went back several versions and found one that works, so there is some
regression in Firebug itself causing the browser to crash when Firebug
1.5 is even installed (not even operating), however they refuse to work
with me since the version shipping with Ubuntu has no crash reporter and
thus no way to determine what exactly is causing the crash.

I am happy to provide any information helping me to reach a result. I am
using Kubuntu Karmic 64-bit and really don't want to go through the
annoyance of installing 32-bit Firefox with 32-bit flash and all of
that. I have 32-bit firefox without flash running and Firebug 1.5 does
indeed work perfectly fine in there, so there is some specific problem
with Ubuntu builds of Firefox 3.5.3 causing this issue.

Please tell me what data I can provide!

[Bug 403610] Re: kde 4.3 Multiple Monitors tells lies

2009-10-11 Thread Sir_Brizz
Low priority? Seriously???

I think it's probably likely that business users make up more than a
significant portion of people who use Linux. Adding real multiple
monitor support to any non-nVidia hardware is such a huge PITA that even
I won't touch it with a ten foot pole, so I'm stuck on a single screen.

I'm glad to see that the option is even in Display, but what's the point
of having it there if it's not functional, and the likelihood of it
being made functional is Low? There really isn't one.

This is just one more thing that makes KDE seem less professional than
Gnome. I know most of the KDE developers are volunteers and that this is
like biting the hand that feeds you, but I think a core goal of future
KDE development should be feature parity with other window managers as
well as simplifying features that Windows converts desperately need
(like disable touchpad when usb mouse is plugged in).

If not, I have to question the goal of having a separate window manager
at all. What is KDE for if very basic functionality is considered low
priority for being fixed/written?

[Bug 444262] Re: knetworkmanager won't connect to hidden WiFi AP using WEP

2009-10-08 Thread Sir_Brizz
I'm not sure about this current issue, but at release in 9.04 I was able
to get the wireless to connect to my hidden SSID by connecting to it in
Gnome or from the command line prior to logging in to kdm. I guess it
just recognized the current connection that way. I don't have them
installed side by side currently, I figured that doing so wouldn't be a
very good test.

So are you saying you connected to a hidden wireless network booting off
the live CD instead of having Kubuntu actually installed?

[Bug 444262] [NEW] network manager won't connect to hidden wireless SSID using WEP

2009-10-05 Thread Sir_Brizz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

First off, what I'm using:

Kubuntu Karmic 9.10 Beta, last updated 10:30pm MDT
Wireless card is an Atheros ar928x (yes, I know)
This is a laptop, HP G70

I'm having an issue with not being able to connect to my router which is
a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 running the Tomato firmware. I don't think this
matters.

I have SSID broadcasting turned off, WEP 64 bit with a hex key turned
on.

I am using knetworkmanager to try to connect. The process I use is as
follows (using the taskbar icon).

Click network manager
Click Connect to Other Network...
Click Connect to Other With...
Click Connect button
-- This brings up the Add Network Connection dialog --
Change connection name to my wireless network name
Check Connect Automatically
Click Wireless tab
Type my SSID into the SSID box
Click the Wireless Security tab
Change Security drop down to WEP
Change Key Type drop down to Hex key
Type in my hex key
Click OK

With NetworkManager running in no-daemon mode I get the following Warning:
NetworkManager: WARN  user_connection_get_settings_cb():
user_connection_get_settings_cb: Invalid connection: 'NMSettingWireless' /
'ssid' invalid: 1

Nothing else happens. I have tried opening various dialogs and clicking
the connection and it never does any pulse. dmesg shows nothing and
there are no other messages on the console from no-daemon
NetworkManager.

If I can provide other info, do let me know. I'm happy to provide any
information.

02:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR928X Wireless
Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)

using the ath9k driver.

Depending on the access point I am using, I get a wide variety of
results and stability.

At home I have a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 with the Tomato firmware. It is
reasonably stable, it disconnects every hour or so without cause which
is far better than anywhere else I've used this.

At work I have had two different routers that I am unsure of models on,
one was a NetGear and the other is a D-Link. With both I lose connection
constantly and have to reassociate. This happens at least once every
half hour.

At another location I have a Linksys WRT54GL. It is almost completely
and utterly unusable. The wireless never disassociates, it just stops
working completely. I have to manually re-associate with the access
point for the connection to start working again.

On the Linksys it is really strange because some services continue
working while others just die, and eventually they all die. And this
happens multiple times every half hour. Often I don't even have a
connection the instant I connect to the access point.

This is REALLY bad. Atheros cards have been available with an open
source driver for a long time and there are tons of open bugs in
Launchpad about this same kind of issue with the ath9k driver.

[Bug 246843] Re: no access to about:crashes

2009-09-11 Thread Sir_Brizz
Like #6, my problem is that I'm segfaulting with no way to figure out
what kind of information about:crashes would even contain. This is on
Jaunty Ubuntu 3.5.3 from the repos.

I tried running firefox with

strace -f -eopen firefox /tmp/ffox.log.txt

Is that the same info that about:crashes would contain?
