[Bug 201731] Re: dvd not recognized by installer

2008-03-13 Thread SoloTurn
to be precise:
i did the installation of ubunto from dvd with the network cable unplugged. the
skype install i did by clicking on the skype.com deb pkg. i uncommented then
the deb lines commented in sources.list and hoped it will get it from the
network and not from the dvd. but still it fails with the cd not available
error message.

finding out the version of ubuntu with system-about fails with a crash,
reporting a crash report fails with "you need to upgrade XX packages",
and upgrading fails with rendering the x server unusable so i had to
reinstall. but this is independent - and not part of the not beeing able
to install skype bug.

[Bug 201731] [NEW] dvd not recognized by installer

2008-03-13 Thread SoloTurn
Public bug reported:

inserting the 8.04 dvd mounts it at "/media/Ubuntu\ 8.04\ i386/". the

cat /etc/apt/sources.list
deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 8.04 _Hardy Heron_ - Alpha i386 (20080108)]/ hardy main
restricted
...

in the sources.list.

installing e.g. skype then fails with "cannot access cdrom".

confused the configuration somehow.

2008-03-16 Thread SoloTurn
Bug #145208 marked as duplicate. gdm, x.org conf files are attached
there if this helps.

after you get the white screen once, it happens also when logging off
one of the users. one interesting thing might be, that before getting
the white screen the first time, the nvidia splash screen pops up. but
it might be as well that i m not fast enough to see it the subsequent
times.

[Bug 188619] Re: easier shortcuts + delete possible

2008-03-16 Thread SoloTurn
you are only partly right i think. as easy shortcuts would be nice: r,l,
del, ->, <-, home, end.

 * r,l do not work
 * del does work, but it always asks you to confirm. it is not marked in the
menu
 * ->, <-, home, end do work, but are not marked as shortcuts in the menu, so
you find out by trying.

some of the "alt" variants are marked in the menu, like "alt ->" but
this is more difficult to type.

2008-08-31 Thread SoloTurn
Public bug reported:

launchpad - trac integration seems to be not a good citizen because:
 1. it should not require to change a trac installation if launchpad is a client
 2. if it is necessary, adjust the plugin, in this case xml-rpc to have a

 3. if this is not possible, add a plugin on http://trac-hacks.org

[Bug 267593] [NEW] compiz settings displays keybindings scattered around 20 places

2008-09-07 Thread SoloTurn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

there is one place in gnome for displaying keyboard shortcuts: settings
- keyboard shortcuts.

compiz does not obey this rule and displays its keyboard shortcuts in
"compiz". to make it even worse, every plugin thinks it has to display
its shortcut in a place of its own.

while compiz is brilliant from a feature view, this seems to make compiz
a catastrophe from a accessibilty point of view.

[Bug 1502697] Re: ubuquity crashes in 15.10

2015-12-24 Thread SoloTurn
now i tried different and put an ubuntu lts-14.04 LTS on the 4th
partition from windows, pendrive, i.e. an iso. i then booted this ubuntu
LTS and wanted to install ubuntu on the other 3 partitions, as above.
now the installer says (i cannot copy the text unfortunately ...):

failed to unmount partitions
the installer needs to commit changes to the partition tables, but cannot do so
because partitions on the following mount points could not be unmounted:
/cdrom

there the installer is right, because i booted from there. but i am
wondering why the installer wants to commit anything if i do not change
a single one of the partitions.

root@ubuntu:~# lsof /cdrom
lsof: WARNING: can't stat() fuse.gvfsd-fuse file system /run/user/999/gvfs

[Bug 764009] Re: touch typing clash with unity keyboard shortcuts

2013-05-14 Thread SoloTurn
exactly about this. open the launcher, and window switching is probably
the most essential. especially super-w is impossible to type. yet,
"good" combinations like super-g, super-v, super-b are wasted.
seriously, how often do you search videos, so you need a shortcut for
it?

btw, i did not succeed in assigning super-v instead of super-w with
compizconfig manager. super-v still opens the video search.

[Bug 283003] Re: volume control should allow "one-click-mute"

2013-04-15 Thread SoloTurn
with 12.10 and 13.04 it finally is nearly good. but - switching the
sound level to 120% with the sound settings is _not_ persistent. all the
time one touches the loudness the maximum is reset to 100%.

[Bug 1094702] [NEW] display correctly file names with utf-8 characters

2012-12-30 Thread SoloTurn

when e.g. downloading multiple attachments from google mail it offers
"utf-8". if a filename contains umlauts, like "ΓΌ" it is displayed

dropping it to the filesystem works and preserves the utf-8 umlaut.
