[Bug 723167] Re: Panel does not use standard GTK/Pango font rendering/antialiasing, causing fuzzy fonts

Same for me. What is strange is that Ambiance's rendering is OK, but
with Radiance everything is messed up.

[Bug 761093] Re: Unity says "Home Folder" no matter where I am

2011-06-21 Thread Spaced
@Rocko: the workaround you suggest probably works with the English
version, but on my computer (I run Ubuntu in Italian), even if I change
the name of the command from "Home folder" to "Nautilus" (or whatever
name), I still get "Cartella home" ("Home folder") in the global menu. I
guess this happens because I should modify the translation file, but I
don't know where it is located...

@Andrew:
Thanks a lot, now the icons are correctly displayed.
The *.deb I'm using is this one: http://eion.robbmob.com/skype4pidgin.deb
I've had no particular configuration problems with it, except that it requires
pidgin to be installed. But then it works normally with Empathy for me.

[Bug 567248] Re: skype in empathy (bigbrownchunx-skype-dbus) with pidgin-skype

2011-04-19 Thread Spaced
I manage to set up the account and receive chat messages (haven't yet tried
calls), using the last *deb package provided on the developer's website. But
one problem that really pisses me off is that in Empathy the plugin called
"bigbrownchunck-skype-dbus" does not display an icon.
The plugin does actually have its own icons, but they get installed where
pidgin protocols' icons are installed (the path is
/usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/protocols/).
Apparently, Empathy does not know where to find the icons for the Skype
protocol, and it ends up assigning no icon to the protocol. The worst
consequence of this is that when the mouse passes over Skype contacts in
Empathy's main window, an ugly icon with a red "X" on black background shows up.
I'm sure this could be fixed quite easily, but I don't know how.

[Bug 560415] Re: Lubuntu 10.04 installation crashes

2010-05-08 Thread Spaced
I eventually managed to install the system. Mine was a "hardware" problem,
there were bad sectors on a part of the HD, and the installation probably
failed to write on the disk. I re-partitioned the hard disk not allocating the
first two Gb's and everything ran smoothly.
I guess this bug can be closed, at least for me.

[Bug 564735] [NEW] Printing to a network printer is very slow and uses a lot of CPU

2010-04-16 Thread Spaced
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

I'm using CUPS 1.4.3-1 on Lubuntu 10.04. I installed a network printer
via Samba - had already installed previously with Karmic Koala, and it
always worked fine. The printer is installed and detected, the print
jobs are sent but they take really a lot of time to print (each page
takes more than 1 minute). Beyond this, the cupsd process uses around
60% of the CPU.

[Bug 352732] Re: [jaunty] Sound muted after boot

2009-06-02 Thread Spaced
Gavindi's solution works, in the sense that if I comment that line I
have all volumes up after the desktop is loaded. But the strange thing
is that it makes the "login sound" disappear. Summing up, this is how it
works for me:

1) with the line un-commented (default situation)
- "drum sound" at the beginning
- "login sound" at desktop loading
- master channel muted

2) with the line commented (Gavindi's solution)
- "drum sound"
- NO "login sound"
- master channel unmuted

This seems a real puzzle. How to get out from it?
