Public bug reported:

[needs-packaging] Diogenes

Diogenes is a tool for searching and browsing the databases of ancient texts,
primarily in Latin and Greek, that are published by the Thesaurus Linguae
Graecae and the Packard Humanities Institute. (NB. These databases are not

[Bug 86550] Re: Video card no longer supported by Ubuntu

2007-03-07 Thread Starmaker
The problem is that there is no trident driver for my XGI Volari V3
video card for use with Xorg. There is one from the XGI site that is an
.RPM which I converted into a .deb but then didn't know how to try and
implement it. The .rpm version of the driver is located Here:
http://www.xgitech.com/sd/sd_download2.asp

XGI says that it only supports Xfree86, so I converted Edgy to run on
Xfree86 instead of xorg, but that didn't go so well because I still
didn't know how to use the downloaded and converted driver after i
installed it. If there were a how to that explained step by step how
to do this successfully it would be nice. Is there a way to use xfree86
and Xorg simultaneously perhaps with xfree86 master and xorg slave? I
haven't found enough information on the subject. If there is a way and
I had access to the info I could write a patch script and upload it.

Thanks again for the support I greatly appreciate it.

P.S. the trident Volari XP5 driver works in Edgy, except that I cannot
move anything on the desktop or scroll upwards without problems.
Scrolling down works fine. Though I don't think it should work at all.
I don't know enough, and can't find info.

[Bug 88924] Feisty upgrade aborted by subprocess post-installation script error

2007-03-01 Thread Starmaker
Public bug reported:

I tried to upgrade from 6.10 edgy to 7.04 Feisty using the following
command

gksu dist-upgrade

This opened the update-manager as it should do. everything ran perfectly
until This error came up.

subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

Could not install 'python-sqlite'

The upgrade aborts now. Pleast report this bug against the 'update-
manager' package manager and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/
in the bugreport.

no, the vesa driver doesn't work in edgy for some reason. It doesn't do
anything after the splash screen and using pdkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
doesn't even work if I try using the vesa driver.

Thanks anyway.

it seems that you are using vesa-driver on dapper.. doesn't that work in
edgy? You could try feisty, herd-4 test-release was released last week.

2007-02-22 Thread Starmaker
those two files are from 6.06. I can update to the 6.10, but it is
difficult and time consuming. I don't think that there would be any use
becaue the glxinfo and lspci wouldn't be the same because I have to use
drivers that weren't meant for the video card anyway.

Tell me what you need to know and I will try to supply it. I am
learning a lot about the xserver and xfree86 and may be able to come up
with some kind of fix on my own. If I do I will let you know.

[Bug 86657] update won't redirect 301 moved premanently the way it should.

2007-02-21 Thread Starmaker
Public bug reported:

This problem seems to happen after installing things with Automatix.
Perhaps when automatix updates the repository lists something unexpected
happens because (I believe) that requests that return a 301 error should
be redirected to something else. I don't know for sure though I think
that I read that somewhere. Anyway, I hope that this helps.

The problem just didn't happen before Automatix was installed and used.
(never tried automatix before and I think it's pretty cool!)

Thanks for all the work!!! I really enjoy using Ubuntu and think that it
easily surpasses other distros in quality and community. I hope that I
have helped you by trying to report every bug that I come across.

Sincerely,

Starmaker

RE: [Bug 86550] Re: Video card no longer supported by Ubuntu

2007-02-21 Thread Starmaker
I don't know how to tell again, but I tried to install and play doomIII
for linux and the reason I couldn't was because the Mesa driver couldn't
handle it.

When I run the command #sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg It doesn't
have any mesa driver available, and shows vesa instead.

I will try to go back and look for the command used to determine the
driver I'm using, but Whatever it is, Dapper selected it automatically
upon install. I have not been able to get an Edgy CD to work properly,
but I also have not been able to get a freely shipped cd. I have been
upgrading using #gksu update-manager -c and the update manager. But I
won't do that again because of the 301 moved permanently problem with
the repositories.

I will attemp to find all of the information I should have had to begin
with when going to report this bug. I still don't know what all you
might need though. I think that it is great how well my bug reports
have been recieved!

Thanks for the cooperation!

[Bug 86550] Video card no longer supported by Ubuntu

2007-02-20 Thread Starmaker
Public bug reported:

Appearently my XGI Volari V3 video card will not work with releases
later than 6.06 LTS. Did something change with the drivers available in
the xserver? The Trident driver works marginally and thinks that I have
a different Volari Card. The old Mesa driver in Dapper works
wonderfully for everything except some games with intense graffix.

Why is this? Is there something I can do other than convert to Edgy to
run on Xfree86 until the next time I install an upgrade? (I already
tried this method once, and may try it again later.)

[Bug 86161] tried to update to feisty from edgy and vim-tiny did not update due to circular? dependancies

2007-02-18 Thread Starmaker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vim

I installed Dapper, then put in the CD for edgy and installed edgy from
it while already booted. (cd wouldn't work correctly after the splash
screen, but had decent integrity and was burned at 4X.) I suspect that
my video card is no longer supported which is a real shame because the
open source drivers are available at XGI. Everything worked fine after
doing a sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg in the recovery mode.
Exited fine using the trident drivers and went right to the login
screen. Only problem is I can't scroll back up on any forms or browsers
and have a use able screen.

Decided to play around and update to feisty and the update aborted
because VIM-TINY couldn't update due to some kind of package dependancy
that wasn't met. Something else didn't update as well, but it didn't
give me any info.

Hope that that helps!!
