 ** Description changed:

The term Ubuntero, which is presumably of Spanish derivation, is only
applicable for male contributors. A female contributor should be
 called
an Ubuntera, which is impossible currently as a contributor is not
 asked
   his or her sex.
I suggest introducing a question about a participant's sex in the
profile, or substituting Ubuntista which is applicable for a man or a
   woman.
 +
+ Update: the Community Council decided to replace the term Ubuntero with
+ User XYZ has signed the Code of Conduct, so that is the fix that is
+ needed in launchpad, wikis, etc. as described around #54

anecdotal reports of behavior that sounds related as early as April or
March...is this really such an unpopular laptop series?

Anyone, beside problems with suspend, experience drop in performance on
3d acceleration(for example lp:#663328) and wifi. I mean it makes me
feel that after Lucid, Meerkat made my t400 a bit less smart.

Also, I don't have the model with 2 video cards, just with an Intel GM45

[Bug 663328] [NEW] Intel® GM45 Express perf ormance drop on maverick

2010-10-19 Thread Stas Sușcov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I own a lenovo T400 laptop with an Intel® GM45 Express gpu card
(basically gma4500), and got installed maverick on a clean partition

I use to play a game called Heroes of Newerth (native build, not through
Wine), and the performance drop is horrible, no characters nor buildings
are visible in the game, just the terrain.

Also the 3D acceleration generates a lot of artifacts, like black lines and
parts of black screen.
http://ubuntuone.com/p/LCe/

Can somebody point me to the right direction, what should I upgrade/downgrade
to get the 3D support back (as in Lucid)?
Thanks.

Yeah, I think you'll find some of the hunks don't apply. I think any C
coder can probably figure out how to apply it.

I manually treated rejections and succeeded to build the package.
My PPA: https://edge.launchpad.net/~sushkov/+archive/ppa

Patch is under essentially the _modified_ BSD license or X11 license,
so it makes sense to be improved and get included into further builds.
It looks bad, but it works, screenshot attached :)

[Bug 397721] Re: [needs-packaging] php-fpm

2010-05-07 Thread Stas Sușcov
Huh, I got the lucid php5 package patched with fpm.

This one should be far better than dotdeb's since it has all the ubuntu
patches plus fpm.

Checkout my PPA:
https://edge.launchpad.net/~sushkov/+archive/personal/+packages

Now It can be back-ported to hardy or older versions.

Although I've been using it on a public website for a while now, there
can still be regressions (and there probably are). And I cannot support
it for 5 years, though the FPM patches will probably work fine before
 the next LTS.

Oki, great to hear that.
I set up some builds (which are still in queue now) with the patches
from dotdeb, but until I can't see some green marks next to them I'll be
waiting for packages from any source.

On hardy I can easily use packages from dotdeb, but that doesn't work on
lucid (I use nginx and don't want to downgrade to apache just cause of
lack of packages).

Thanks.

Also having php 5.3.x in karmic, will allow us get it more stable for the next
LTS.

More than this, php 5.2.9 is already in Debian testing, so moving up to
5.3.0 would be somehow synced with them.

Hmm, actually it solved partially the bug.
Now I can logout, but CTRL+C and screen still are not working.

The problem doesn't seem to be caused by openssh-server/client packages.

There's something else that causes the bug, but it happens only on remote ssh

Getting solved the patching problem is the easiest part.

The package won't compile with the current ./configure, so you'll need
to ./buildconf --force anyway. From that point you won't be able to
apply fpm patch to./configure.

I would say that the package should be build apart from current php5
with only security and fcgi specific patches.
The problem here is that on the official webpage, it is not documented
what exactly (from php5) fpm requires to run, I doubt it requires the
whole php to be reinstalled on the target system.

The new PHP-FPM project will be standalone, so it can be packaged

It does not need any special ./configure switches, you just need to
./configure and make PHP so it has sources to build against. Then you
can compile PHP-FPM separately and package it as a separate package.

 See details at https://launchpad.net/php-fpm

The problem is that, to make the package available and allowed for
upstream, the security team will require `php-fpm` to have the
`php-5.X.X` security patches.

Currently `php5_5.2.10.dfsg.1-1ubuntu2` is provided with ~46 patches,
among them suhoshin, CVE security fixes and other database related
patches.

On the other hand, there should be no problem with dependencies (fpm can
be run standalone in fact), and we can provide fpm using the latest
stable upstream (ignoring ubuntu release specific) version. In this
case, the package will not be part of a regular `php5` build, how I was
trying to make it.

[Bug 397721] Re: [needs-packaging] php-fpm

2009-08-01 Thread Stas Sușcov
Hi,
I must report that I've tried patching the current `php5` package from hardy in
order to offer modified `php5-cgi` with support for fpm under a new package`
php5-fpm` and I failed miserably cause of the long list of patched the package
depends on.

The fpm patch would be 63rd on the list.

The package fails to build cause there are patches which require
`./buildconf --force` thus modifying the upstream `./configure` and
`main/php_config.h.in` files which needs patching by php-fpm.

Tested php version: 5.2.4-2ubuntu5.6
Tested patch: http://php-fpm.org/downloads/php-5.2.4-fpm-0.5.3.diff.gz

Another solution would be to skip the patch which conflicts and provide
php5-fpm as a package apart without them.
Also, I'm not sure if php5 package can be pushed to a newer version in hardy.

 Hi,

I did a rebuild in my PPA, and i'm running it in a reasonably loaded
server. As it's just a rebuild, i would imagine it's identical to the
 rebuild I did.

Hi,
yeah it's just a rebuild with the updated dependency so it's identical.
So any of the packages can be pushed into public repository.

Looking forward for the bug to be closed soon.

Based on that, I can confirm that it is working as expected.

 Thanks.

[Bug 395637] [NEW] SSL fails in hardy

2009-07-04 Thread Stas Sușcov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nginx

Adding `ssl on;` in you config file will give you and error like this:
---
SSL_CTX_set_tlsext_servername_callback() failed (SSL:)
---
and nginx will not start!

The problem is related to bug #186844 in libssl.
Although the required packages were built, those are not included in hardy.

You have to push libssl to jaunty's version by installing (for example) this
package:
https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-security/+archive/ppa/+build/1070801

The problem doesn't seem to be of high importance, although users who
are looking for a solution to this problem will find this useful
(hopefully).

Should be nice to have latest openssl build also in hardy.

[Bug 394939] [NEW] apache2.2-common (2.2.8-1ubuntu0.9) left apache2-mpm-itk with unmet dependencies in hardy

2009-07-02 Thread Stas Sușcov
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apache2.2-common

Hi,
can you please draw back apache2.2-common (2.2.8-1ubuntu0.9) from upstream (at
least until you receive a new build from apache2-mpm-itk which solved
dependency problems), or rebuild apache2-mpm-itk to not depend on
apache2.2-common (= 2.2.8-1ubuntu0.8).

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  apache2-mpm-itk: Depends: apache2.2-common (= 2.2.8-1ubuntu0.8) but
2.2.8-1ubuntu0.9 is to be installed

loose their http service if apt-get dist-upgrade is used!
