[Bug 391413] Re: [karmic]kernel 2.6.30-10-generic breaks suspend with video-intel 2.7*

Hi Robert,

thank you for the hint. I didn't know there was a kernel in the xorg-

work at all. Nothing happens when I click on Suspend or Hibernate in the
Powermanagement plasmoid.

I fixed this very same problem on a friend's computer by purging and

manual configurations were performed on this computer before. Be after
this cleaning up everything worked again. So I doubt this is a bug in
the Ubuntu packages.

I ran into this after changing the hostname of a Hardy machine (dist-
upgraded yesterday) with KNetworkManager. The /etc/hosts file did not
contain the new hostname after this and because of this sudo refused
working from then on. One needs to boot into recovery mode or with a
live CD to fix this problem by correcting /etc/hosts.

[Bug 205233] [NEW] kde-window-decorator crashes when turning on/off KDE's "GUI Effects" setting

2008-03-22 Thread Stefan Borggraefe
Public bug reported:

Using Hardy upgraded today.

The kde-window-decorator crashes for me 100% reproducible when doing the

2. Go to the "Effects" tab.
3. Enable or disable "Enable GUI effects" or e.g. "Menu drop shadow"

[Bug 196930] Re: No sound in Hardy alpha 5 in my Dell XPS m1330

2008-03-18 Thread Stefan Borggraefe
I had the same problem after upgrading my Dell XPS m1330 from Gutsy to
Hardy pre-Beta from today.

The solution was easy:
For some reason the front speaker were muted after the upgrade. They were not
before the upgrade. I had to unmute it.

Note:
I also did a

sudo apt-get --purge remove linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils

and

sudo apt-get install linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils

while searching for a solution before I found the muted speaker. I do
not know whether this may also be needed, because I found the muted
speaker only after performing these operations.

Also in the "Global" tab the option

Offer "Turn Off Computer" and "Restart Computer" from logout dialog

when using ktweak.

This package should either be fixed or removed from the distribution,
because it verly likely cripples KDE when used.

I experienced the same bug after upgrading and iMac G3 from Edubuntu

and then recreating the initramfs with

sudo update-initramfs -k all -c

fixed it for me. So there is no need to compile a new kernel.

[Bug 117380] Re: Upgrade from 6.10 to 7.04 fails when using bfilter

2007-08-16 Thread Stefan Borggraefe
But there is only one place in Ubuntu to configure a proxy. You cannot
just set it for the web browser. The configured proxy is used for all
HTTP traffic.

I still think this bug is valid and is fixable by improving bfilter's
default configuration. E.g.

NOFILTER *.gpg
NOFILTER *.deb

(and perhaps some more package related extensions) could be added to
/etc/bfilter/urls.local

[Bug 117380] Upgrade from 6.10 to 7.04 fails when using bfilter

2007-05-28 Thread Stefan Borggraefe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bfilter

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Ubuntu Edgy with all updates
2. Install package bfilter
3. Configure 127.0.0.1:8080 in Gnome as the proxy.
4. Start update-manager -c
5. Try to do the upgrade to Feisty using update-manager's GUI

Result:
The upgrade does not work because the GPG authentification fails. On the
console you see:

extracting '/tmp/tmpeodSO2/feisty.tar.gz'
authenticate '/tmp/tmpeodSO2/feisty.tar.gz' against
'/tmp/tmpeodSO2/feisty.tar.gz.gpg'
exception from gpg: GnuPG exited non-zero, with code 131072

Further investigation shows that the file
/tmp/tmpeodSO2/feisty.tar.gz.gpg is empty.

After deactivating the bfilter proxy and restarting update-manager -c
the upgrade works fine.
