[Bug 434255] Re: speedstep-ich no longer loads with kernel 2.6.31 on a IBM Thinkpad T23
Jeremy, please close this bug. The bug had been fixed in the speedstep module in one of the 2.6.32 kernel versions (see my above post, Dec 5th 2009). [Bug 430494] Re: gdm upstart script fails to start gdm
I have the same problem on my IBM Thinkpad T23. But it only happens with _some_ kernels. For instance, I can repro the bevaviour with the new 2.6.33 kernel. 2.6.23.7 works (i.e. the boot process doesn't end with the command prompt and I do not need to start gdm manually ), but only with this additional line in rc.local: /etc/init.d/gdm restart I haven't seen this bevaviour with previous Ubuntu versions. But in Karmic, both gdm and upstart have changed... as far as I am concerned these changes have been introduced too quickly and need more testing (not only because of this anomaly, there other additional ones, e.g. the mount of my NFS network drive fails during boot). [Bug 412292] Re: mic not working on ALC883 in Acer Ferrari 1004 laptop with Ubuntu 9.04
I have the same problem with my MSI 670 notebook. I can activate the recording buttons in the Gnome volume settings, but this does not persist. I don't have any input, neither on "MIC", nor "Front Mic" or Line (with an external microphone plugged in). I have googled for "ALC883" and found that this is a common problem on many machines. I did not find a solution, yet. I even removed pulseaudio from the system (Ubuntu Jaunty) and use esound now instead, but to no avail. snd-hda-intel loads with the option "model=6stack-dig". I have also tried "targa-2ch-dig" and "targa-dig" with the same result (but fewer entries in the sound mixer). It seems that ALSA is just buggy for this chip. [Bug 299245] [NEW] Evolution: "delete trash" with IMAP crashes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I use a mail server (dovecot) in my home network (running on my Linksys NSLU2). I use 'evolution' as mail client on all of my machines. The mailbox is IMAP format. On one of my notebooks I have recently upgraded from hardy heron to intrepid ibex, i.e. evolution version 2.24.1.1. Whenever I select "Datei/Müll leeren" (file/empty trash), evolution instantly crashes without any messages. The e-mails in the trash folder don't get deleted, they survive this operation. In my preferences I have the option "delete trash on exit" checked. This also doesn't work - today I have realised that in total 1,599 e-mails had not been deleted after the upgrade to intrepid ibex. On my wife's notebook, running hardy heron and evolution 2.22.3.1, deleting e-mails from the trash works as expected. The e-mails are in fact gone after this operation, even when I open the trash folder on my notebook with the 2.24.1.1 version of evolution. This bug is reproducible. [Bug 149964] Re: evolution: URLs with ampersand ("&") don't work
Because I didn't understand the discussions going on - it reminds me of discussions with co-workers in my company. We have the following situation: a) a very visible bug appeares in one of the key applications of Ubuntu, so that ordinary users like me will recognize it and say "what a bad job they have done..." b) quickly a patch is developed - the problem seems to be solved, the application would work again as it should and has been for years, if the patch would be applied c) but people discuss whether to apply the patch or not, talk about 'it's just annoying', people can manually change the URLs and that it doesn't matter that links are no longer "readable" But perhaps I'm too simple-minded to follow... [Bug 149964] Re: evolution: URLs with ampersand ("&") don't work
It's worse than only being an annoyance. Today I received a newsletter (HTML format) that contains a lot of links. Evolution not only cripples the links itself, but also the visible link names. For instance: The German word "Säbelsägeblätter" reads as "Säbelsägeblätter" in Evolution. It is not unusual to have these kind of words, as umlauts are quite common in some languages... Again, I also want to stress the fact that this bug was just recently introduced. Some weeks ago evolution's implementation of links was correct (and all the other versions before). Since there are a lot of Gnome/Evolution users around, this bug will get quite famous once Gutsy Gibbon is released. [Bug 149964] evolution: URLs with ampersand ("&") don't work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I am using Gutsy Gibbon. Since a few weeks some URLs in e-mails get somehow corrupted when clicked on. I can repro this as follows with the e-mails I regularily get from an eBay search subscription: 1. open evolution 2. open an arbitrary e-mail received from eBay 3. click on an arbitrary link to an eBay item 4. result: eBay prints "ungültiger Artikel" (in english: "invalid item"), since the URL is no longer correct. This is a bug of evolution. I have tested exactly the same e-mail (from my central IMAP mailbox) using Thunderbird and it works perfectly. I also forwarded this e-mail to my Windows machine at work and also no problem. Here is a sample URL (shown in the firefox window) when clicked on the link from Thunderbird: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150168307117&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:DE:1 And here is the result I get when clicked on the link from evolution leading to the "invalid item" message in eBay: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150168307117&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:DE:1 Do you see the difference ? [Bug 130248] Thinpad T23 (gfx: savage): X server crash (fullscreen mode and firefox mplayer-plugin)
The problem has worsened... I had to completey reinstall my system because I had to change the harddrive. The bug still persists (i.e. it is reproducible on this system), but not only regarding fullscreen mode, as I had previously thought. The X server now also crashes when the mozilla-mplayer plugin starts to display a video within firefox (not in fullscreen mode). Btw, starting mplayer not as firefox plugin shows expected behaviour. After such a crash the syslog has the following entry (German locale): gdm[4134] WARNING: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Schwerwiegender X-Fehler - :0 wird nun gestartet." (meaning: serious X error - :0 will now be startet) The problem is not related to gdm. I temporarily installed kdm and got the same result and a similar syslog entry: kdm[3457]: X server for display :0 terminated unexpectantly. syslog also has the following entries after booting the system: Sep 5 22:49:31 stefan2 gdm[4146]: GLib-CRITICAL: g_key_file_get_string: assertion `key_file != NULL' failed Sep 5 22:49:31 stefan2 gdm[4146]: GLib-CRITICAL: g_key_file_get_string: assertion `key_file != NULL' failed Sep 5 22:49:31 stefan2 gdm[4146]: GLib-CRITICAL: g_key_file_free: assertion `key_file != NULL' failed Sep 5 22:49:31 stefan2 gdm[4138]: WARNING: Server-Name »0« nicht gefunden. Standard-Server wird verwendet (the last message in German meaning: "WARNING: server name »0« not found. standard server will be used.) What does this last message mean ? I've always thought that "0" IS the standard server. [Bug 131882] yaird (kernel >=2.6.22): unrecognised line in /proc/bus/input/devices: U: Uniq= (fatal)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: yaird Installing kernels under kernel version 2.6.22 or greater using yaird fails with the following error message: yaird error: unrecognised line in /proc/bus/input/devices: U: Uniq= (fatal) When I install a kernel (even if its version is >=2.6.22) under kernel <2.6.22, yaird works as expected. It seems that from 2.6.22 on /proc/bus has changed and yaird hasn't been adapted yet. I run the current Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon (alpha 4), plain vanilla kernels, with yaird version 0.0.12-20, but I don't think that it depends on the distro or version. The same bug should affect other distros like Debian, too. [Bug 130248] Savage (IBM T23): Gnome/Xorg crashes in fullscreen mode
Public bug reported: I have the following system: IBM Thinkpad T23 (S3 SuperSavage graphics) Ubuntu Linux: Gutsy Gibbon (as of today), Gnome Everytime I start a program (or to be precise, a game, e.g. KETM), the Gnome session crashes and gdm restarts. This has never happened before under Edgy Eft of Feisty Fawn. The xorg.conf is unchanged. The only thing (I know of) that is different, is that under Gutsy DRI seems to work, i,e,: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/stefan/incoming# glxinfo | grep direct direct rendering: Yes This had always been "No" before Gutsy, and this had always been reported as a bug - so I think that DRI has been enabled for the savage driver but we have lost the fullscreen capability.
