[Bug 1598904] Re: X server crashes sporadically with a segfault
I have cleaned out my kernel packages and now I only have the official trusty kernel package installed. So I'm running on kernel 3.13 now and I've just experienced this crash again. This time I was looking at Google maps on Chrome, so nothing special really going on (except maybe if Google maps is using some hardware acceleration similar to the ones that the Euphoria screensaver is using). But as I said, I'm now running on the official kernel so I'm re- uploading the Xorg log file. ➜ ~ uname -a Linux hyperion-stfs 3.13.0-92-generic #139-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 28 20:42:26 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux ** Attachment added: "xorg_crash_20160728_xorg.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1598904/+attachment/4708817/+files/xorg_crash_20160728_xorg.log ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1598904 Title: X server crashes sporadically with a segfault To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1598904/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1598904] Re: X server crashes sporadically with a segfault
I've updated the BIOS and I've also removed all the non trusty kernels. So now I'm running on 3.13.0-92-generic. I haven't had a crash yet but I will report back if/when I do. One other thing though that might be of importance. I noticed when cleaning up the kernel packages that I have xserver-xorg-video-intel- lts-wily installed (and a bunch more wily packages regarding the x server, including xserver-xorg-video-all-lts-wily). I tried cleaning that up and downgrading to the trusty version of these packages but ran into dependency problems and eventually gave up. Do you think this might be causing problems as well? Is there any way to help with downgrading all these packages? Finally, I'd like to mention that I do think that after downgrading to the 3.13 kernel, I think that full screen videos are being displayed smoother. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1598904 Title: X server crashes sporadically with a segfault To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1598904/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1517542] [NEW] xdg-open doesn't allow more than 64 characters after the protocol:// part
Public bug reported: This may actually not be a bug I guess but I still think it's a bit strange. Our application is using quite a lot more than 64 characters there so I'm wondering whether we're breaking some standard (I can't find anything about what the length can be). But at least our problem is that our application does not launch properly which may be our own fault but in case it's not I wanted to check whether this 64 character limitation is actually based on some specification somewhere or whether this is just a random decision and if so, whether this length should perhaps be increased? ** Affects: xdg-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1517542 Title: xdg-open doesn't allow more than 64 characters after the protocol:// part To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xdg-utils/+bug/1517542/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1386473] [NEW] Not using all cores after upgrade to 14.10
Public bug reported: I have a computer with two cpus with 4 cores each (physical) but htop is only showing activity on two of these 8 cores (number 1 and 3). Also, if I run stress -c 8 top shows only 25% cpu usage. I've rebooted the machine and the problem persists. I also took a look at the BIOS settings and found nothing there that looked suspicious. If I run 'stress -c 8' only two cores go to 100% in htop as stated above (cores 1 and 3). If I run 'stress -c 1', one core goes to 100% (either core 1 or 3). If I run taskset -cp coreid pid I can control which core the process is run on. I can actually move it to any core that I want (1, 3 or any other one)! So the cores are there... the kernel just doesn't seem to use it unless I explicitly tell it to with taskset. I've verified that this is a regression when moving from [lxk]ubuntu 14.04 to 14.10. [Bug 1089856] Re: Wireless network doesn't resume after suspend/resume (sometimes)
I've been using 3.7.0-030700-generic for a while now and was starting to think that the bug was fixed but unfortunately it isn't. This happened now with the same symptoms (lspci -vvnn gives me the !!! Unknown header type 7f error message). Don't know if it helps but it feels like this is likelier to happen if the computer has been sleeping for some amount of time (overnight or more). This may be a coincidence though. I'm trying to add the tag 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream' but I can't figure out how to do it. Hopefully it will be possible if I change the state to 'Confirmed'. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed ** Tags added: kernel-bug-exists-upstream -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1089856 Title: Wireless network doesn't resume after suspend/resume (sometimes) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1089856/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1089856] [NEW] Wireless network doesn't resume after suspend/resume (sometimes)
Public bug reported: It seems that sometimes my wireless network interface disappears after suspend/resume. When this happens, listing hardware with lshw does not show the wireless adapter. Reloading the wireless kernel module drivers does not work! The command I'm using to do that is the following: sudo rmmod iwlwifi mac80211 cfg80211 ; sudo modprobe cfg80211 ; sudo modprobe iwlwifi ; sudo modprobe mac80211 And finally (and this is quite weird to me), a soft restart of the computer does not work! That is, selecting the Restart option from the logout menu doesn't work. The last time this happened I tried a soft restart 4 times and every time the wireless interface did not come up. However, as soon as I did a hard reboot (selecting Shutdown from the logout menu, waiting a few seconds and then starting the computer again) fixed the problem right away. This probably indicates that the wireless controller itself (hardware) is in some undefined state. I tried adding adding the following line to /etc/pm/config.d/config: SUSPEND_MODULES=$SUSPEND_MODULES iwlwifi That has not solved the problem. As I stated, I don't think this is happening every time I suspend/resume, but when it happens I consistently need a hard reboot to fix the problem and get my wireless interface up again. I will do a few suspend/resume cycles later to try to see how frequently this happens. To upgrade kde-workspace: 1) Downloaded all of the .deb files from the link above with the following command: wget -r -A.deb --no-directories https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kde-workspace/4:4.9.0-0ubuntu4/+build/3762859 2) Ran the following script to install only the packages that are already installed on my system: pl= ; for a in *.deb ; do p=$(dpkg-deb --info $a | sed -n 's/Package: \(\S*\)/\1/p') ; i=$(dpkg -s $p 2/dev/null |grep Status) ; pl=$pl $a ; done ; sudo dpkg -i $pl This resulted in some errors. The full output is here (http://paste.ubuntu.com/1285546/) but in short the errors were some missing dependencies that I could get around by installing the packages needed (a bit weird though why the dependency changed but that's a different conversation). But after installing the needed packages, I'm getting a version conflict for kde-workspace-data. It turns out that there is no 4.9.0 package for that for some reason and kde-workspace-bin cannot be installed because of that. Can anyone tell me where I could get my hands on kde-workspace- data_4.9.0-0ubuntu4_amd64.deb? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1061073 Title: Desktop effects are slow and desktop corruption using mesa 9 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mesa/+bug/1061073/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1061073] Re: Desktop effects are slow and desktop corruption using mesa 9
Ok so I managed to get through my dependency woes. I figured out that there are two packages that are architecture agnostic and those .deb files are only on the i386 files so I got the kde-workspace and kde- workspace-data .deb files from there and all is now good. So now I have kde-workspace 4.9.0 and mesa 9.0 installed and I can verify that the desktop effects are still very slow. I haven't seen the rendering artifacts (the white lines as in the screenshot attached to this bug) however but those appear sporadically so I can't say for sure that they're gone or whether they just haven't appeared for me. I will take a look at downgrading mesa step by step next. Will report back.
I installed Mesa 9.0 20120903 from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/quantal/+source/mesa/9.0~git20120903.e1673d20.is.git20120821.c1114c61-0ubuntu1 and I experience the same slowness and artifacts on that. So I won't try the other git snapshots since the bug was clearly introduced before 03.09.2012.

[Bug 1060372] Re: No audio from headphone jack on Ultrabase Series 3 with ThinkPad T430
Hi. Just checking up on this... it's my understanding that this is just a matter of adding the model name to a source file really and from what I can see this hasn't been done: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/tiwai/sound.git;a=blob;f=sound/pci/hda/patch_realtek.c;h=bb93f927f7be97ac7280c87fe2cccbf448c73809;hb=4407be6ba217514b1bc01488f8b56467d309e416 There is a line for T430s there but none for T430. But this brings me to a (potentially very stupid) question. Why in the world are these quirktables kept in a source file that needs rebuilding for each new model that comes along? Wouldn't it be a better idea to keep these in a config file that people can edit? This should simplify testing, instead of having to rebuild a kernel, you can just edit a config file and report if that worked. [Bug 1061073] Re: Desktop effects are slow and desktop corruption using mesa 9
Hi and thanks for the reply. I installed xdiagnose, python-apport and python-launchpadlib but when I run 'apport-collect 1061073' I answer a series of questions but at the end when I press the 'Send' button I get this error: stefan@atlas-stfs:~$ apport-collect 1061073 dpkg-query: no packages found matching mesa Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/share/apport/apport-kde, line 519, in module sys.exit(UserInterface.run_argv()) File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/apport/ui.py, line 634, in run_argv return self.run_update_report() File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/apport/ui.py, line 554, in run_update_report attachment_comment='apport information') File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/apport/crashdb_impl/launchpad.py, line 358, in update report.write_mime(mime, skip_keys=skip_keys) File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/problem_report.py, line 504, in write_mime attach_value = CompressedValue(v, k).gzipvalue File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/problem_report.py, line 44, in __init__ self.set_value(value) File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/problem_report.py, line 50, in set_value gzip.GzipFile(self.name, mode='wb', fileobj=out).write(value) File /usr/lib/python2.7/gzip.py, line 131, in __init__ self._write_gzip_header() File /usr/lib/python2.7/gzip.py, line 176, in _write_gzip_header self.fileobj.write(fname + '\000') TypeError: 'unicode' does not have the buffer interface ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I have Kubuntu 12.10 set up on a ThinkPad T430. I'm experiencing both desktop corruption and slow performance of desktop effects. I've tried to downgrade mesa to 8.0.4 and that fixed the problem. Attached is a video comparing the two. The video does not show the desktop corruption I mention (vertical lines appearing) but I will attach a screenshot of that. I originally thought this was related to bug 1042211 but they told me to file another report since it seems to be different artifacts that I'm seeing. Of course I can't say for sure whether the slow performance and the artifacts are due to the same problem but the artifacts seem to appear when the desktop effects are activated. As you can see in the video, mesa 9.0 displays much jerkier effects and it seems that when the artifacts come this jerking becomes really bad just before the artifacts appear. Just now I did notice that the artifacts appeared at the mouse pointer when I clicked in a window. The artifacts followed the mouse pointer as I moved it but after clicking a few times they disappeared. WORKAROUND: As described in bug 1042211 I downloaded the 8.0.4 version of mesa from https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/8.0.4-1ubuntu1. This fixed the problem for me. Since it took a little while for me to figure out how to get the .deb packages from that page, here is how for anyone who wants to try: 1) Go to the above page. 2) Under Builds select your architecture 3) This will bring you to a page with all the .deb files for your architecture. I only installed the libgl1-mesa-dri, libgl1-mesa-glx, libglapi-mesa and libglu1-mesa packages. Please let me know if you need more information. p.s. I had some problems choosing the package for this bug. It wouldn't let me put it on libgl1-mesa so I put it on libgl1-mesa-dri.
