same for me with Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks (046d:08ae) after Upgrade to karmic. Under hardy everything works out of the box. [Bug 312501] Re: sometimes gnome-settings-daemon fails to start after login
after going to the version i have the same problem with the gnome- setting-demon.
