[Bug 237002] Re: Evolution cursor creates a track.

2009-01-26 Thread StefanS42376868
Ubuntu 8.04.2 (all latest updates installed) still has this problem, and since
there is no NVIDIA driver for Ubuntu 8.10 (at least I always get this message
when I try to install), a bug fix in 8.10 does not help at all!
Please note that this problem ONLY occurred with the NVIDIA driver and compiz!

[Bug 237002] Re: Evolution cursor creates a track.

2009-01-24 Thread StefanS42376868
Unfortunately, when I try to update to 8.10, I get the message, that no
NVIDIA-driver for this version is available, so I of course I will not install
this version!
So please allow me the stupid question:
Since the bug occurs only with the NVIDIA driver, what does it mean that it
has been fixed then?

[Bug 242203] Re: wrong margins for HL-1030_series

2009-01-11 Thread StefanS42376868
I tried the Scale to fit option for for both the HL-1030 and the
HL-1250 driver.

It has no effect at all in case of the HL-1030 driver, but with the HL-1250
driver it works, and for the first time I have a print out with everything
readable!
So thank you, I hope this will solve my problems!

By the way, the German translation of this option is wrong (Größenverhältnis
means just proportion of sizes), and without your advice I would never have
tried this option, while I understand perfectly the english original scale to
fit!
My suggestion for a German translation is
an druckbaren Bereich anpassen.
This should help all other German users who have the same problem!

[Bug 242203] Re: wrong margins for HL-1030_series

2009-01-10 Thread StefanS42376868
But the MS-Windows-driver gets along with this hardware limitation!
I've just printed the same pdf-file from AdobeAcrobatReader under MS-
WindowsXP, and everything including the headline is readable.

The windows driver seems to scale the output in order to make it fit into the
printable area:
The printed letters are slightly smaller than in the Ubuntu case, and there is
a horizontal offset of 0,5cm and a vertical offset of 0,6cm of the top left
position of the word Betreff.

Isn't it possible to configure the Ubuntu-driver to do the same?

Please note, that this PDF is just an example to make my problem
reproducible. I have severe problems in almost every application (e.g.
Firefox, Thunderbird) with this bug/feature!

As long as this problem is not solved, I cannot use my printer with
Ubuntu but only with Windows (and my goal was to get independent of
Windows).

[Bug 242203] Re: wrong margins for HL-1030_series

2009-01-08 Thread StefanS42376868
Sorry, I was using the driver
Brother HL-1030 for CUPS

My Ubuntu version is
Ubuntu 8.04.1, kernel 2.6.24-22-generic

But I have just tried the HL-1250 driver, and with this one I do get
/tmp/foomatic-rip.ps
I opened this file with evince, and I see correct margins, i.e. the top line
[Bug 242203] Re: wrong margins for HL-1030_series
 is not cutted,
while in the printer output it still is: I can see only the bottom most pixels
of
   g ] gg _

The output you requested is:
$ cat /etc/papersize
a4

I attached also the requested files.

By the way, in addition I have just tried if now the described line in the
corresponding ppd-file has any effect:
I edited
/usr/share/ppd/Brother/brhl1250_cups.ppd :
*ImageableArea A4/A4: 400 400 600 800
(and used the HL1250-driver of course), but still the printer output is not
affected at all.

[Bug 242203] Re: wrong margins for HL-1030_series

2009-01-07 Thread StefanS42376868
I did what you told me.
$ grep debug /etc/foomatic/filter.conf
# Enable debug output into a logfile in /tmp/foomatic-rip.log.
debug: 1

But after printing (the printer produced the same wrong ouput), there is no
file /tmp/foomatic-rip.ps:
$ ls -l /tmp/*.ps
ls: Zugriff auf /tmp/*.ps nicht möglich: No such file or directory

In addition, I've just found out, that the evince-print.pdf file from my
original bug report is now printed with correct margins (maybe due to any
update within the last 6 months, my answer from 2009-01-06 is related to a
different source file, with which I tested).
But the problem is still there, e.g. if I print my email from thunderbird to
PDF, see attached file, and then the PDF from evince to my printer, 90% if
the headline is cutted vertically (completely unreadable).
Even worse (but I can't show you with an attachment) is the result, if I print
directly from thunderbird to my printer, then in every line the first letter is
cutted, i.e. the whole email is unreadable.

** Attachment added: this pdf now causes a cutted header line

2009-01-06 Thread StefanS42376868
Unfortunately, there is no effect if I edit
/usr/share/ppd/Brother/brhl1030_cups.ppd.
The orginal line is
*ImageableArea A4/A4: 18 12 577 830
I tried with
*ImageableArea A4/A4: 36 40 613 866
(which should add the missing margin according to my measurement)
but also with
*ImageableArea A4/A4: 0 0 400 600
to see any effect at all.
In both cases the result is the same...

How can I get ubuntu 8.10 and fusa 2.24???

[Bug 254768] [NEW] sending mail from multiple accounts does not work

2008-08-04 Thread StefanS42376868
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

I get an error message when I try to send an email from an account which is not
my default account.
I appended the error box to this bug report.

I configured my second account exactly in the same way as my first one; both
are on imap.de.aol.com, only the user name and password are different
Receiving emails on the second accounts works, so the account seems to be
correctly configured.

[Bug 254190] [NEW] 2.6.24-19-generic dows not start with nvidia-glx driver

2008-08-02 Thread StefanS42376868
Public bug reported:

I already reported this bug as #250730 (linux-restricted modules), but I am not
sure if it is not some completely different package, so I try again.
I cannot start my ubuntu system with the latest kernel release any more, so I
had to go back to 2.6.24-18-generic.
For details please see #250730.
I would be glad on any hint, since I did not get any response at all on

[Bug 250730] [NEW] nvdia-glx fails with kernel 2.6.24-19-generic

2008-07-22 Thread StefanS42376868

Since I updated my kernel from 2.6.24-18-generic 2.6.24-19-generic, the nvidia

With the 2.6.24-18 kernel the driver loaded without errors, but I had to add
the following line in my /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common :

[Bug 243950] [NEW] Nautilus cannot create folders via context menu if scrollbar present

2008-06-29 Thread StefanS42376868
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Whenever there is a vertical scrollbar on the right side of the nautilus file
browser, there seems to be no way to create a new folder.
Without scrollbar I can just right-click on the empty background area and and
get a context menu to create a folder (German: Ordner anlegen). But in case
of a vertical scrollbar, there is no empty background area!
Suggestion: Add at least one line of space behind the last line in the scroll
view!

Of course there is a workaround via the file menu, but this is not very
intuitive; I found it only after a while (since I expected it in the
edit menu).

[Bug 243567] [NEW] breakpoints do not work in kdevelop

2008-06-27 Thread StefanS42376868
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdevelop

I used the wizard to create a new QT3-project with
Project/NewProject/C++/QMakeProject/Qt3Application
QMake-Path = /usr/bin/qmake
Directory where QT3 is installed = /usr/lib

I built the project via
Build/BuildProject
-- *** Success ***

I started with Debug/Start, the application starts ok. So far so good.

But then I tried to set breakpoints e.g. in every line of test::about()
via contextmenu--ToggleBreakpoint, again no error was reported.

void test::about()
/*bp*/ {
/*bp*/QMessageBox::about( this, tr(Qt Application Example),
/*bp*/ tr(This example demonstrates simple use of
/*bp*/  QMainWindow,\nQMenuBar and QToolBar.));
/*bp*/ }

I was already wondering why it is possible to set breakpoints in all lines, but
ok...
But the debugger does not stop when I obviously should hit a breakpoint via
Help/About F1
in the running application! The about-dialog dialog comes up, but no breakpoint
is hit!

The debugger seems to work in principle: I can even interrupt
(Debug/interrupt) and continue (Debug/start).

What else can be wrong?

Here is the version info (Ubuntu8.04):

[Bug 243299] [NEW] after standby next boot hangs

2008-06-26 Thread StefanS42376868
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gconf-editor

If I click the button standby (German: Ruhezustand) in the shutdown dialog
of Ubuntu 8.04, I will get a dark screen and after a few seconds two error
messages:
[100955046] i8042: aux 00:0d activation failed
[100955060] i8042: kbd 00:0d activation failed

The numbers in [] have some random character and are not reproducible.

The system does switch off power then (not just standby). But even on the next
start (hardware Power On), the boot process will fail:
The Ubuntu logo screen with the orange bar freezes in the first phase, while
there is not yet a progress bar but only a bar moving from left to right and
back...
Only after a hardware reset, Ubuntu will start again, then everything runs
normally again.
This behaviour is perfectly reproducible.

Of course this might be a problem with my old (4 years) main board
(MSI-K7N2G),
therefore - as a preliminary solution - I would like to remove the standby
button from the shutdown menu, but how can I do this? The gconf-editor seems
not to have this option any more (I found in a forum that Ubuntu 7.10 had:
apps/gnome-power-manager/can_hibernate).

[Bug 241544] Re: pdf2ps creates empty output

2008-06-23 Thread StefanS42376868
Thanks a lot, that does it!

But as you mentioned, the documentation is misleading. Of course I had read
man pdf2ps before I submitted the problem report, but I expected that a
missing output argument would automatically be substituted by stdout.
Maybe you can add a hint in the man page?

[Bug 240503] Re: pages per page is ignored

2008-06-23 Thread StefanS42376868
Meanwhile I found a workaround:
Evince has its own printer dialog, and there the option pages per sheet works
fine.
So I can just print to PDF first, then open the PDF file and print it again
with Evince, where I set the option 2 pages per sheet.

So the bug remains but is of minor importance for me.

[Bug 242157] [NEW] pages per sheet ignored by gtklp

2008-06-22 Thread StefanS42376868
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gtklp

The option pages per sheet is completely ignored by gtklp.
If I choose pages per sheet = 2, I will still get the same result as with 1
on printing a PDF file.
The appendix contains the output PDF, if I print to the virtual PDF printer
that was automatically delivered with Ubuntu8.04. On printing to a real printer
I get the same result.

Minor bug in GUI: the Combobox pages per sheet is cutted, so that the
number is not readable.

[Bug 242203] [NEW] wrong margins for HL-1030_series

2008-06-22 Thread StefanS42376868
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-config-printer

The margins for the HL-1030 printer driver seem to be not correct.
There are always about 0.1-0.2 inches margin cut on top and bottom of the
printed page.
I am using the HL-1250 driver with Ubuntu 8.04.
(Note: My printer is ok, with MS-Windows I do not have this problem.)

If I print the appended PDF, the headline will be cut to port a bug about...
(i.e. Re on the sheet's bottom margin is cut),
and the last digit (3) of the date 22.06.2008 21:33 will be cut in the
middle (top margin).

Is there a way to correct the margins for myself in some configuration
file, or is this a severe driver bug?

[Bug 240591] [NEW] cursor is not erased in old position in evolution

2008-06-17 Thread StefanS42376868
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

While editing a new message in evolution the cursor is sometimes not erased
in the old position when I move it e.g. with the cursor keys. This results in
many cursors, only one of them is the real one.
This bug occurs ALWAYS after resizing or re-activating the message window. When
I start entering text into a new window, it does not occur.
This bug does NOT occur in other applications like e.g. gedit, so it seems to
be an EVOLUTION bug.

The screen shot can be reproduced as follows:
1. Open new email message (Neu)
2. Set cursor to message section and type 1234567890
3. Activate another window and reactivate the message window
4. hit 10 times the cursor-left key

I have the nvidia-glx driver and desktop effects normal.

I have just found out that the bug does not occur any more when I
switch off desktop effects completely!

My GPU is a GeForce4 MX. According to NVidia, I should install the
legacy driver instad, but this seems to be impossible:
The nvidia-glx driver is automatically installed via System → Administration
→ Restricted Devices Manager.
I tried to choose nvidia-glx-legacy in System → Administration →
Synaptic-Paketverwaltung (sorry: German), but the driver is not accepted there.

[Bug 240503] [NEW] pages per page is ignored

2008-06-16 Thread StefanS42376868
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-config-printer

The printer configuration option pages per page is completely ignored
in Ubuntu 8.04.

To avoid any printer driver dependence (I have an HL-1030_series), I tried even
with PDF printer.
The PDF-result is exactly what I see also on a printout:
In any case, I get the same printing result with pages per page = 1 and
pages per page = 2.

With pages per page = 2, I would expect both input pages (turned by 90°,
scaled by 50%) on one output page.
I would even permit, that I have to set the orientation manually, so I tried to
change the orientation to landscape (Ausrichtung = Querformat 90°), but this
does not solve the problem, only the orientation is changed (in my case it is
cutted then), but the input-page contents are never scaled.

I guess that the option may only work for postscript printers?

[Bug 237002] Re: Evolution cursor creates a track.

2008-06-16 Thread StefanS42376868
I have the same problem, and I found a way to reproduce it reliably (since it
does not always occur).
If I just type into a new window, everything is fine. But if I rescale the
window or activate another window and re-activate the evolution window, the
effect occurs immediately.
Since this does never happen e.g. with gedit, I am quite sure, that it is a
true bug in evolution and NOT a video issue.
