[Bug 666824] Re: Fluidsynth output ports not showing up in jack

2010-10-27 Thread Stefano_PG
With the integrated card:

fluidsynth -l -a jack -m alsa_seq -j -r 44100
/home/stefano/.Musica/PC51f.sf2

With external firewire card:

fluidsynth -l -a jack -m alsa_seq -j -r 96000
/home/stefano/Musica/PC51f.sf2

Although I never used fluidsynth by a command line before this problem. I
usually use it through qsynth

[Bug 666824] Re: Fluidsynth output ports not showing up in jack

2010-10-27 Thread Stefano_PG
The fluidsynth input port is shown and i can connect other output to that. The
output port is missing, so I can't plug it to other input ports. I mean: in
qtjackctl, under Connections - Audio - readable clients there is no more
fluidsynth, but there is under Connections - Alsa - writeable clients/input
ports.
Just noticed: this is the console output with the verbose flag:

2) Fluidsynth/libfluidsynth 1.1.2
3) Fluidsynth output ports should appear to be linked to system playback
4) Fluidsynth output ports are not avaiable, altough input ones seems to be ok.

[Bug 666824] Re: Fluidsynth output ports not showing up in jack

2010-10-26 Thread Stefano_PG
Fluidsynth at 1.1.2 version doen't show up any input port to jack, so it can be
used to playback midis. The same seem to happen with natty's 1.1.3, but
everything seems ok with lucid's 1.1.1.
Some (maybe) useful links:

https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/21031
http://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/fluid-dev/2010-10/msg00011.html

I'm using jackd1, jackd2 simply doesn't run on my system. No changes if
jack loads alsa or ffado backend.

2009-11-01 Thread Stefano_PG
I tested a transfer from sda (ide) to sdb (Usb) of an iso (700mb).
The worst for me is the deadline, wich is about 0.5MB/s slower than cfq.
Anticipatory is about 0.7MB/s faster.
At the end I stay with cfq.

Assuming that your disk name /dev/sda, type in a terminal:

Copy and paste the output of the above command.

 My system shows:

 noop anticipatory [deadline] cfq

Which means my system (9.10 Karmic Koala beta with no updates) is using
deadline by default and I am currently not experiencing the problem. I
was experiencing the slow USB transfer speeds in 8.04 Hardy Heron and
 8.10 Intrepid Ibex.

The Jaunty CD should carry the 2.6.28. Karmic will use the 2.6.31, so

Finally, I went into the BIOS, set it to have All of USB device

This bug with high speed USB storage devices is a big issue. If I was

[Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices

2009-01-27 Thread Stefano_PG
My workaround has really simple: just put in /etc/rc.local, just above
exit 0, this line:

/sbin/modprobe -r ehci-hcd

To remove USB 2.0 and force your devices in a USB 1.1 compatibility
mode. It is a very stable solution, but the transfer rate is lower (1,
1,5 MB/s).

I'm trying archdrone's solution on my 2.6.27-9 kernel instead. This is
what you should do to replicate it:

1) Create a file:

sudo gedit /usr/local/bin/modprobe-usb

2) Copy this in the file:

#!/bin/bash
/sbin/modprobe -r ehci-hcd
/sbin/modprobe -r uhci-hcd
/sbin/modprobe -r ohci-hcd
/sbin/modprobe ehci-hcd
/sbin/modprobe ohci-hcd
/sbin/modprobe uhci-hcd

3) save and close

4) give execution right to the file:

sudo chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/modprobe-usb

5) write in /etc/rc.local, just above exit 0

/usr/local/bin/modprobe-usb

6) save, close and reboot. You are now ready to test.

If something goes wrong reboot in recovery mode, select the root shell
and execute this command:

rm /usr/local/bin/modprobe-usb

You should be able to boot up again and remove the line added in
/etc/rc.local

I moved this way 4,5 GB, 7 files. Then I rebooted, I removed those files and I
moved the same files again.
No USB resets, transfer rates of about 6 MB/s

I'm still testing.

[Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices

2009-01-27 Thread Stefano_PG
DON'T DO THAT

by rmmodding those modules you will brake several other and your system
may not work. Fortunately you can remove the file as in 7) and than
remove the line in rc.local, so all should be the same again.

I have tested another way to modprobe the modules in the right order.
Simply open rc.local:

sudo gedit /etc/rc.local

and add these lines:

/sbin/modprobe -f ehci-hcd
/sbin/modprobe -f uhci-hcd
/sbin/modprobe -f ohci-hcd

I moved 7,5GB from pata to usb, than from usb to pata; then I reboot,
and I moved the same files again from pata to usb and to usb from pata.
In the meantime I was using some files in the USB drive to stress it
more.

Again, as above, no usb reset at all and a great improve in speed: from
6MB/s to 22MB/s. I don't know why, but I'll continue the tests.

In facts this kernel works as bad as the others. It complete transfers
about one or two times, than starts hanging and reseting the USB driver.
I tried the one from Jaunty repos, 2.6.28.4

The only secure and stable solution is to rmmod every boot ehci-hcd.

[Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices

2009-01-20 Thread Stefano_PG
I read about ... stable USB drivers... from the 2.6.28 changelog.
Maybe it's the end for this bug? I would like testing the 2.6.28 but I'm
not confident with kernel settings.

[Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices

2009-01-18 Thread Stefano_PG
I spent all the day testing kernels from 2.6.27-7 to 2.6.27-11 .

Conclusions:

- Kernel 2.6.27-7 works only if you never upgrade and if there aren't any other
kernel installed,
- Other kernels ant the not fresh -7 can operate for some time, but usually
after 1-2 successful transfers of files the ehci-hcd module stop working at all
for that kernel.

@archdrone

Do you have to rmmoded every boot?

So, Hated On Mostly, with the patch you posted on ubuntuforums we can
have USB 2.0 transferts in flash drives, but the CD drive start working
even if you don't use it?

[Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices

2009-01-12 Thread Stefano_PG
Ok, it's not a complete solution. USB drives usually work (I transferred 4 GB
in my device without failures), but it casually resets even without pending
operations.
A very little step forward with 2.6.27-7-generic kernel.

Try reinstalling the 2.6.27-7, I removed it after the update to -9 and
now it works like before.

2009-01-10 Thread Stefano_PG
With this kernel I have no issues: 2.6.27-7-generic

Maybe other owners of an A7N8* Motherboard should try this. The issue is
only with the 2.6.27-9 and the 2.6.27-11.

I also tried kernel 2.6.27.11 but it doesn't work neither.
This bug will be 2 years old soon, Happy birthday! :-) Are other distros
