[Bug 763130] Re: X hangs at startup (segfault in fglrx?) after Natty beta upgrade

2011-04-22 Thread Steffen Rusitschka
I've had the same issue on my Upgrade from Maverick to Natty. I didn't
use fglrx on Maverick, but had it installed once. Mainly removing
/usr/lib/fglrx and /usr/lib32/fglrx manually solved the problem. I guess
those where some leftovers from an incomplete Maverick fglrx uninstall.

[Bug 442073] Re: [Karmic] Kernel Freeze during Boot on AMD64

2009-10-06 Thread Steffen Rusitschka
The problem still exists with linux-
image-2.6.31-12-generic_2.6.31-12.39_amd64.deb

Booting with acpi=off is a partial workaround: It stops at the console
login and X wont start.

Maybe an ACPI problem? Attaching an acpidump.txt

[Bug 442073] [NEW] [Karmic] Kernel Freeze during Boot on AMD64

2009-10-04 Thread Steffen Rusitschka
Public bug reported:

The latest kernel update on Karmic linux-
image-2.6.31-11-generic_2.6.31-11.38_amd64.deb freezes on every boot.
Sometimes I get an error message about tasks being stuck for more than
120 sec, sometimes it's completly frozen.

I went back to linux-image-2.6.31-11-generic_2.6.31-11.36_amd64.deb and
everything works fine.

The changes I suspect:

 * [Config] Increase kernel log buffer to 256K for amd64 flavours
- LP: #424810
  * [Config] Set HZ=100 for amd64 flavours
- LP: #438234

Just a guess ...

In my case udev-extras was not installed. Installing it and rebooting
fixed the problem for me.

2009-05-26 Thread Steffen Rusitschka
I can also confirm that the mainline kernel 2.6.29 from the PPA works
fine here.

[Bug 346691] Re: jaunty kernel 2.6.28-11 kernel update renders the system un-usable.

2009-04-15 Thread Steffen Rusitschka
I'm also a bit concerned about the RC/final of Jaunty... Anyway, here's
a short summary of all lshw.txt attached to this bug an its duplicate:

Common to all machines:
- Intel Core 2 Duo
- 4 GB RAM
- 4965 AG(N) WiFi
- Intel 965 Memory Controller
- Nvidia Graphics Card: 8x00M

I'm not sure if everyone is running a 64-bit version of Jaunty.

But: those hardware combinations are far from being exotic - almost all
new Laptops have a similar configuration...
