Seems like the latest image does not contain flash-kernel or it somehow
avoids this error for me right now. Does this help? Let me know if you need
anything else?

Thanks,
Stephan

Re: [Bug 1818881] Re: ath10k_pci crashing

2019-04-01 Thread Stephan Fabel
Hi

upgraded the system as instructed, FWIW here's the fwupdmgr output just to
confirm:

$ fwupdmgr update
No upgrades for XPS 13 9380 System Firmware, current is 0.1.2.1:
0.1.2.1=same, 0.1.1.1=older, 0.1.0.0=older

I had my xHCI controller die on me today as well:

[95279.564648] xhci_hcd :39:00.0: xHCI host not responding to stop
endpoint command.
[95279.564656] xhci_hcd :39:00.0: xHCI host controller not responding,
assume dead
[95279.564679] xhci_hcd :39:00.0: HC died; cleaning up

I will now reboot and see whether this problem still occurs.

Thanks,
Stephan

Here's the link to the DisplayLink Forum post:
https://displaylink.org/forum/showthread.php?p=84713#post84713

I created a screen capture, but wouldn't you know: on the generated MP4
(using Kazam) the flicker is not visible, despite the mouse flickering
constantly throughout the recording of the screencast.

[Bug 1724307] Re: Mouse cursor flickers when using external DisplayLink monitor

2017-10-17 Thread Stephan Fabel
1) The DVI connection doesn't work at all. This is through HDMI.

2) No. This only occurs if an external monitor is attached through the
Wavlink.

3) Yes, that's correct.

4) Seems like animations/overlays or typing inside a Chrome window
causes the mouse pointer to flicker more aggressively than not. If there
is _no_ interaction or animation, the mouse pointer remains static and
drawn.

5) No; the external monitor never has the mouse pointer vanishing
entirely. That only happens on the internal monitor.

[Bug 1724307] Re: Mouse cursor flickers when using external DisplayLink monitor

2017-10-17 Thread Stephan Fabel
Hi Christopher,

1) it's a WAVLINK USB 3.0 Dual Video Docking Station containing the
DisplayLink technology: http://a.co/aifGl8J

2) This issue occurred with a previous version of the DisplayLink driver
(1.3.54) as well.

3) This issue occurred with 17.04, 17.10 (as of yesterday) and now
16.04, all x64.

4) I am using a DELL XPS 13 and have no other means of attaching an
external monitor :-(

5) see (3), this happens also as of the latest cut of 17.10.

[Bug 1278223] Re: Mouse Flickering after adding 3rd Monitor

2017-10-17 Thread Stephan Fabel
I can confirm awensley's characterization of this bug. I have exactly
the same issue:

OS: Ubuntu 16.04 x64
Kernel: 4.10.0-37-generic
X.Org X Server: 1:7.7+13ubuntu3 (v1.19.3)

Monitor 1: 1920 x 1080 - Laptop's Native Monitor
Monitor 2: 1920 x 1080 - DisplayLink (USB) connected AOC E2775SJ Monitor

Please note that DisplayLink's FAQ points to this bug:
http://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/825819-mouse-cursor-flickers-on-the-primary-ubuntu-screen

Please let me know what else is needed to prioritize fixing this issue.

[Bug 1724307] [NEW] Mouse cursor flickers when using external DisplayLink monitor

2017-10-17 Thread Stephan Fabel
Public bug reported:

This may be a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1278223. In order to
provide more information, there was a request to open another bug and
attach the relevant info to it.

OS: Ubuntu 16.04 x64
Kernel: 4.10.0-37-generic
X.Org X Server: 1:7.7+13ubuntu3 (v1.19.3)

Monitor 1: 1920 x 1080 - Laptop's Native Monitor
Monitor 2: 1920 x 1080 - DisplayLink (USB) connected AOC E2775SJ Monitor

Using DisplayLink driver v1.4 (latest as of today), the mouse screen
flickers on refresh both on the external as well as on the native
monitor, and it seems worse on the laptop's monitor than on the external
one, going as far as vanishing for several minutes (pointer still being
active as I can see icons being highlighted, etc. but no mouse pointer
being drawn). Usage of Google Chrome seems to aggravate the issue,
although it's not gone otherwise.

[Bug 1380218] [NEW] Backport xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.8.1 to 14.04 LTS

2014-10-12 Thread Stephan Fabel
Public bug reported:

Clickpads are a part of a wide range of professional Lenovo Thinkpad
machines. The touchpads/clickpads on these laptops do not work well with
the synaptics driver version 1.7.x. Since the 14.04 is an LTS version, I
do not plan to upgrade to 14.10. I imagine many users of the Lenovo
Thinkpad line are in a similar situation.

Since version 1.8.x fixes a lot of these issues, see commit here:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-input-
synaptics/tag/?id=xf86-input-synaptics-1.8.1

and blog post here:

http://who-t.blogspot.de/2014/03/xorg-synaptics-support-for-
lenovo-t440.html

Please offer 1.8.x as backported package in 14.04.

[Bug 1047362] Re: Allow specifying an existing ovpn file instead of using the GUI for options

I've reported a similar problem under bug #1074261. I've marked it as
duplicate of bug #364101 to consolidate and give the issue more
traction. Seems like these problems are all inter-related and solving
one of them would basically solve all three issues.

[Bug 1074261] [NEW] ovpn file import fails when setting up connection

2012-11-02 Thread Stephan Fabel
Public bug reported:

When using the OpenVPN Access Server to create client configuration
files, they do not import into network-manager.

Starting nm-connection-editor from the command line gives:

** (nm-connection-editor:2984): WARNING **: Invalid setting VPN: ca

The ovpn file contains all certificates and private keys as well as the
configuration options for OpenVPN. It is written out by the OpenVPN AS
package from openvpn.net.

To repeat, download their access server package, create a user, log on,
and download the client.ovpn file that is offered to you. Network
Manager won't accept it for import.

** Affects: network-manager-openvpn (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 575053] Re: aoetools mount problem during boot after upgrade to server 10.04

2012-06-27 Thread Stephan Fabel
well, I have XFS support in my initram:

 gunzip -c /boot/initrd.img-$(uname -r) | cpio -t | grep xfs

gives a result. Do I need to add it to /etc/modules as well?

2012-06-07 Thread Stephan Fabel
From /etc/fstab:

# CORAID STORAGE
/dev/etherd/e64.1 /mnt/storageext4
defaults,_netdev,nobarrier 0 0
/dev/etherd/e64.2 /srv/backup xfs

/dev/etherd/e64.3 /srv/coefiles xfs

/etc/defaults/aoetools only specifies eth1 as the interface, nothing
else.

/etc/network/interfaces looks like this for eth1:

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet manual
  pre-up ifconfig $IFACE up
  post-down ifconfig $IFACE down

Unfortunately, that does NOT work with 10.04. I have the _netdev set in
/etc/fstab, and it will still present me with the options to skip or
manually mount.

[Bug 1000514] Re: when installing php5-ldap, apache2 does not get restarted

2012-05-21 Thread Stephan Fabel
OK, some sort of debconf menu or cmd line choice to restart or not - or
at the very least the note that the reloading really doesn't do anything
to activate the module would be nice.

I agree that it shouldn't just automatically restart.

[Bug 870874] Re: LDAP user with automounted nfs homedir cannot login

2012-05-08 Thread Stephan Fabel
OK, I am getting past the login screen, no spinning wheel anymore,
however it still doesn't work. I've tried #39. The symptom is that after
login, the desktop immediately logs me out again and I get back to the
login screen.

/var/log/syslog:

I managed to login if I manually mounted the /home/users directory
containing the home directories. So I suppose this error appears to be
some interplay issue between autofs-ldap and ldap logins on an LTSP
server?

[Bug 940050] [NEW] software raid doesn't assemble before mount on boot

2012-02-23 Thread Stephan Fabel
Public bug reported:

I've configured a Software RAID5 using three hard drives and mdadm. The
RAID works, I can access the data, however for some reason it does not
assemble on boot, and the automount subsequently fails with and error
message offering me to Ignore or Skip the mounting process. Turns out
that after booting, the device /dev/md0 does not exist on my system.

I've configured /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf (attached), ran mdadm -As
/dev/md0 as suggested by various guides around the web and added
raid456 to /etc/modules in the hopes that this would somehow make it
work but to no avail.

In my /etc/fstab I'm not refering to the RAID as /dev/md0, but instead
use the UUID of md0.

My workaround currently is this:

Once I login, I can issue

# mdadm --assemble --scan

and it creates my /dev/md0 which is then accessible and works without a
problem.

 Importance: Undecided

instead (as soon as that was stable enough).

Thanks,
Stephan

Installed and checked - when I plug the thing in, there's not a single

[Bug 688451] [NEW] Lenovo X201t ExpressCard Slot not working

2010-12-09 Thread Stephan Fabel
Public bug reported:

Got a new Lenovo X201t (Tablet) with an ExpressCard slot. However, my
2-Port SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ExpressCard/34 from Vantec is not recognized.

As far as I can tell, the log files don't even acknowledge that the card
was plugged in.

This card used to work in a HP laptop that I've used before, also under
Ubuntu 10.10.

[Bug 630537] [NEW] USB 3.0 External Hard Disk I/O Errors

2010-09-04 Thread Stephan Fabel
Public bug reported:

The external HD is in an enclosure that connects using a PC Card
providing USB 3.0 to my laptop. I can connect to the drive using USB 2.0
successfully without a problem. The drive is formatted (FAT) and
encrypted using the encryption option when I formatted the drive.

From the lspci command it looks like the module xhci is used to address
this device. When I copy files to the hard disk, it will start to copy
but after a while fail with I/O errors.

I do not have another USB 3.0 port that I could test this with, so I do
not know whether it is the PC Card or a USB 3.0 driver issue. I would
appreciate any help resolving this issue.

[Bug 15495] Re: Archive Manager doesn't mean anything if you don't know what an archive is

2009-11-30 Thread Stephan Fabel
A compressed file archive isn't really an archive at all. I put things
into an archive that I don't want to see on my desk anymore, but might
need it again in the future. Really, when talking about an archive,
you're talking about it because we used to only be using tar (T ape AR
chive ).[*]

A zip file obviously doesn't work because we are creating a myriad of
archives here, possibly tar.gz, tar.bz2, .rar, .7z, etc.

While having no clear answer, possible candidates that describe better
what is happening here, could be:

- aggregate
- collect
- combine

when looking for terminology in terms of an archive, how about:

instead of add to...
- aggregate in file
- create collection
- combine to single compressed file

= popup choose format dropdown with zip, tar.gz, etc.

Just putting some thoughts out there from a pure English point of view.

[Bug 260251] Re: bttv driver dies with VIDIOC_DQBUF error

2009-08-04 Thread Stephan Fabel
Found that my bttv driver shared an IRQ with my network card. So I
disabled the network (modprobe -r b44), and voila - no real buffer
problems with my capture card anymore. It does not seem stable, but it
is generally working.

Could it be the motherboard?

If someone could point me to a resource where I can learn how to direct
either my ethernet or my bttv to a different IRQ, I would be eternally
grateful (modinfo gave ambiguous results).

Thanks for the links I will take a look at them anyway. You're saying
that GStreamer has a easy to use interface to access V4L devices also?

Thanks,
Stephan

[Bug 260251] Re: bttv driver dies with VIDIOC_DQBUF error

2009-08-03 Thread Stephan Fabel
I've been trying with
- OpenCV 1.0.0 from source
- OpenCV 1.1.0pre1 from source
- OpenCV SVN (current as of today)
- of course the packages included in Jaunty

NOTHING seems to work. I've applied the patch attached to this bug
report, and I am getting the infinite loop condition that David
mentioned.

After a year has gone by, will the V4L driver be updated to properly
handle buffer I/O so that third party libraries won't have to do that?
It seems to be a kernel issue and the frustrating thing is - I've tried
it with Debian Etch (i.e. Kernel 2.6.18) and that works just fine.

Could someone with more insight in V4L look at the differences between
the versions? I will happily try things for anybody, but I really need
this to work.

2009-08-03 Thread Stephan Fabel
This is the error I get with the OpenCV SVN as of today (Aug 3, 2009):

[Bug 262754] [NEW] Lenovo 3000 N100 Fn+F7 (ext. monitor) not working

2008-08-29 Thread Stephan Fabel
Public bug reported:

On my Lenovo 3000 N100 (0768-59G) the Fn+F7 isn't working. Also, when
manually configuring the external monitor using the nVidia control
program, the output frequency doesn't seem to be acceptable to any
monitor attached to it (tried it with both my digital TV and an external
monitor). In each cases, even though the correct resolution and hor.
frequency was configured, both monitors claimed to be addressed by
unknown/incompatible resolution/freq combinations (e.g. external
monitor 1024x786 at 60 Hz configured on laptop, but monitor not able to
display this even though it would support it).

So MAYBE the combination IS working, but the output is just incompatible
with any external monitor.

to report on the status in Hardy as experienced by me. I am using Grub2
to boot, as Grub will generally fail; at least I could not get it to
work, not matter what I did.

I am currently appending hpet=disable pnpbios=off to get rid of the
error messages. I still get the following errors when booting, although
I am not sure whether this has anything to do with the issue at hand:

This is with the latest Ubuntu kernel in Hardy (2.6.24-19-generic). I
will let you know once I've tried the Intrepid Alpha. Unfortunately, I
won't be able to install it as the machine is needed as a workstation.

Thanks,
Stephan

[Bug 184839] Re: evolutions displays pgp-messages as attachment.dat

2008-08-12 Thread Stephan Fabel
Attached is an example e-mail. I have deleted all Received headers, as
well as the message content itself. This E-mail displays correctly in
Thunderbird; actually, I could only test it in Icedove version
1.5.0.14eol (20080724), but I assume it would make no difference.

[Bug 256864] [NEW] kernel dumps core after usb keyboard freeze

2008-08-11 Thread Stephan Fabel
Public bug reported:

I am putting this on the image package, although I have no proof that
this is actually the culprit.

After a short while of using the system (time ranges between 10-30
minutes), my keyboard is freezing, although my mouse is working fine.

I am using a Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop with an external usb keyboard and
external mouse (the latter belonging to a bundle called Logitech S 510)

At this point, I can use the system fine, however I am not able to type
in anything, either using the usb keyboard or the built-in keyboard.
This behavior only happens when the usb keyboard is plugged in.

If I click on the upper right corner and try to restart the computer, a
kernel dump is displayed along with a segmentation fault message,
although, since I cannot use my keyboard or anything at that point, I
don't actually know whether it is the kernel that is crashing. Since my
system stops responding to anything at this point, I thought it might
be.

This is a relatively new install of hardy (about 2 weeks old) with no
custom tweaks or anything like that installed.

[Bug 184839] Re: evolutions displays pgp-messages as attachment.dat

2008-07-28 Thread Stephan Fabel
I can also confirm this bug.

Evolution 2.22.3.1, Ubuntu 8.04.1

I get an attachment.dat which in reality is a plain/text file, and have
to open that file in an external editor. Please fix, this is annoying!

[Bug 246354] [NEW] Timestamp in Makefile

2008-07-07 Thread Stephan Fabel
Public bug reported:

When creating a new Makefile by visiting a new file, a template of a
Makefile is automatically inserted by Emacs. Included is a timestamp
that will update as the file is saved. However, it deletes the comment
sign while updating, thus causing the successive 'make' call to fail.

For example, this is how the Makefile lines 7 and 8 look like before a save,
when visiting the new file:
## Started on Mon Jul 7 08:07:04 2008 Stephan Fabel
## Last update Mon Jul 7 08:07:04 2008 Stephan Fabel

After the save, it looks like this:
## Started on Mon Jul 7 08:07:04 2008 Stephan Fabel
Last update Mon Jul 7 08:08:06 2008 Stephan Fabel

There is no way other than deleting line 8 to circumvent this behavior.

[Bug 58331] Re: fdisk doesn't write partition table

2008-01-10 Thread Stephan Fabel
Sorry for not answering sooner. My solution to this problem was to
reformat/partition the drive under windows.

:-(

It is strange to not see changes in the partition table of the usb
device unless I re-boot...

[Bug 138305] Re: Dell Optiplex 320 won't boot from live CD Gutsy (Tribe 5)

2008-01-10 Thread Stephan Fabel
Using the boot option 'acpi=off' helped me boot the latest gutsy kernel
(2.6.22-14-generic). However the kernel also complains about the PnP
BIOS and suggests adding 'pnpbios=off', which makes the message
disappear. 'hpet=disable' doesn't have any effect on my computer.

[Bug 181904] bttv driver timout and reset

2008-01-10 Thread Stephan Fabel
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Gutsy: using
/lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/kernel/drivers/media/video/bt8xx/bttv.ko as
shipped with the distribution, I get the following error sooner or later
(dmesg | tail):
[ 1362.107570] bttv0: registered device video0
[ 1362.107846] bttv0: registered device vbi0

[ 1453.127246] bttv0: PLL: 28636363 = 35468950 . ok

I am using an S-Video input for a camera capture. The following
applications don't show an image (some show a blue screen, others just
white noise or a scrambled picture - all apps have been configured to
use S-Video input): vlc, zapping, xawtv.

tvtime is showing a perfect picture though.

I am using OpenCV to capture the frames and without changing the code, it
suddenly stopped working. The error message here was:
VIDIOC_DQBUF error 5, Input/output error(After a couple of frames)

This happens randomly and I have no way of provoking this.

My PC is also not booting using the latest kernel (2.6.22-14-generic) on
my Optiplex 320. Grub v1 does apparently not work either, had to install
Grub2. Please tell me how I can help to fix this problem as this is a
new setup and I can re-install or tweak it in case you want me to.
