[Bug 1752772] Re: r8169 ethernet card don't work after returning from suspension

2018-04-12 Thread Stephen Gava
i just installed the latest mainline kernel available in the mainline
ppa which was 4.16.1-041601-generic_4.16.1-041601.201804081334 and the
problem is just the same.

[Bug 1752772] Re: r8169 ethernet card don't work after returning from suspension

2018-04-07 Thread Stephen Gava
just testing ubuntu 18.04 beta 2 and have this exact same problem.
removing and reloading the r8169 module fixes the problem, but i think
it's a serious bug if networking is completely lost on every system
suspend...

most users will not troubleshoot enough or be able to unload/reload
drivers, having networking completely fail after every suspend is more
than medium severity for what is tyo be an lts release.

[Bug 1167107] Re: linux-headers-3.8.0-14-lowlatency won't allow virtualbox modules to build

2013-04-11 Thread Stephen Gava
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 821816 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/821816

this bug wasn't a duplicate, since as i pointed out the regular kernel
headers built the virtualbox modules just fine and it only affected the
lowlatency headers.

in any case today my lowlatency headers were updated to 3.8.0-17 and the
bug is fixed. so whether this is a duplicate or not it can be closed.

2011-09-28 Thread Stephen Gava
well, thanks for trying. ;)

it's not the end of the world for me personally but it sure looks ugly
and has poor usability... will the issue get pushed upstream then?

as for other thunderbird themes, that was why i first posted this bug
against xubuntu artwork, since i use xubuntu and one place this problem
has a bas effect is with the default xubuntu theme. it seems like the
best solution would be for xubuntu-artwork to include a modified

[Bug 856939] Re: Default Thunderbird icons in Oneiric unusable with Greybird

2011-09-25 Thread Stephen Gava
ok Simon, glad to know it's known and in hand.

if 'radiance' is the unity default theme, then the reason it would work
there is because that has a very dark toolbar background, meaning the
white icons have decent contrast.

however on the light grey background of the default xubuntu theme the
contrast is appallingly bad... apart from looking very ugly and
unprofessional, it could be a real usability / accessibility problem for
some users.

stephen.

[Bug 834190] Re: FFe: digkam 2.0.0

2011-09-23 Thread Stephen Gava
 Complaining

this is not complaining but quite pertinent information: ...the 1.9
branch and is \not maintained anymore\ ...

won't get it done any faster.

so, it is getting done? Martin was asking about 2.0 above, since then
there have been a couple of point point releases and a full point
release, so upstream is now at 2.1.1.

i agree it would be a big shame for 11.10 to ship with an outdated
digikam.

anyway, keep up the good work packaging types,

what's more you can't even use 'minimum-uid' or 'hidden-users' in

[Bug 855175] [NEW] jockey fglrx driver error

2011-09-20 Thread Stephen Gava
Public bug reported:

new bug report as requested by Martin Pitt at the end of bug #804709.

with the subsequent week's worth of beta updates the situation has
changed somewhat. jockey now displays two entries for ATI proprietary
drivers, one of which (ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX) works, and one of
which (ATI Fire GL) gives the previously reported error. i'll try to
attach a screenshot of the jockey-gtk window to this report so you can
see what i mean.

the second entry there now installs the fglrx drivers without error, so
that's great. but what's with the first entry? when attempting to
activate that first entry the error originally reported is still thrown
by jockey, that is: SystemError: E:Unable to correct problems, you
have held broken packages.

this could be at the very least very confusing for a lot of people.

fyi running jockey-text gives the following output:

root@x:~# jockey-text -l
kmod:fglrx - ATI Fire GL (Proprietary, Disabled, Not in use)
xorg:fglrx - ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (Proprietary, Enabled,
In use)

root@x:~# jockey-text -e kmod:fglrx
SystemError: E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

also this 64-bit system is testing an upgrade from natty to oeneric, if
that info is of any use.

ok, hope you can get it sorted,
if it stays that way for oeneric release, and others are affected, you'll
surely get a swag of bug reports,

cheers,
stephen.

[Bug 804709] Re: jockey-backend crashed with SystemError: E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

2011-09-13 Thread Stephen Gava
Martin, thanks for your response. However, it is not so simple. ;)

Bug #819365 is not my bug, but I found it first because of the error
message. If you look at the final entry on bug #81936, which is still
incorrectly marked as a duplicate of this one, you will see that the the
same error is still occuring, but for the Nvidia drivers, as well as the
Fglrx drivers that I am repoting for.

As the problem occurs for the nvidia, as well as the fglrx, drivers, it
can't be a problem with fglrx-installer...

Also, sudo apt-get install fglrx works without any problems on my
system, but in jockey, the driver is till marked only as available and
trying to enable it there shows the error i originally reported. Also
dpkg --audit shows no erros for the packages on my system. So, again,
jockey is showing an error about holding broken packages where that
doesn not seem to be true, and jockey can't be used to enable the
driver.

With the incorrectly marked as duplicate bug 819365, and the situation I
describe above, and scattered over several other bugs that can be
searched in the bts here, there is obvioulsy some serious problem in the
interaction between jockey and the proprietatry graphic drivers, both
nvidia and fglrx, that is still present, at least on the x64
architecture I am reporting for.

So, I can go ahead and file a report on flgrx-installer, but they'll
just say it isn't their problem, so this serious bug that has been
reported in several ways now will just fall through the cracks in your
system and be released in 11.10.

If there is some way I can help you to prevent that from happening,
please let me know, but it doubt that going through all this again on
fglrx-installer is the solution.

Cheers,
Stephen.

[Bug 804709] Re: jockey-backend crashed with SystemError: E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

2011-09-12 Thread Stephen Gava
This bug still exists.

ubuntu 11.10 oneric, x86-64, beta 1 fully updated as of 2011-09-13.
jockey-common version 0.9.4-0ubuntu6. fglrx version 2:8.881-0ubuntu2.

As above, and as pointed out in bug #819365 , which I believe has been
incorrectly marked as a duplicate of this one, jockey identifies the
fglrx kmod driver as available, but attemting to enable it returns the
error:

SystemError: E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken
packages.

so, either this is a different bug (which is what is supect) or the fix
released above did not actually fix the problem.

So please either re-open this bark and mark it important, or make bug
#819365 _not_ a duplicate of this one and move my report there.

Please let me know if any additional information will help,
cheers,
Stephen.
