[Bug 1292398] Re: Second screen position isn't saved from one session to another

2015-01-28 Thread Steve O
After the upgrade on the initial boot it still was not respecting the
changes but the ghosting was gone.

I reset the displays with the "Displays" utility, saved changes and
rebooted again. The Login screen is still experiencing issues (only 3 of
the 4 monitors turned on... I believe this is an Nvidia issue) and The
primary monitor was assumed to be on the far left throwing all the
monitors out of order. However upon logging in my monitors were in their
saved positions with no fiddling and best of all, no ghosting!

To summarize, updating with the packages in gnome3-staging repo seems to
have fixed the bug

[Bug 1292398] Re: Second screen position isn't saved from one session to another

2015-01-28 Thread Steve O
This is definitely an issue on a fully up-to-date Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit
system with 4 monitors and GNOME Shell 3.10.4. I will update out of the
gnome3-staging repo and report back on whether it is still an issue or
not

[Bug 1247682] Re: Regression: openconnect VPN does not work anymore

2014-09-11 Thread Steve O
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1297849 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1297849

I am posting here because I do not have a problem with network-manager-
vpnc. My issue is that on 2 computers which were *fresh* installs and
not upgrades, if I go to try and launch an openconnect session, it dies
almost immediately. If I use "sudo openconnect " I connect
just fine.

Log files to follow later

Re: [Bug 1338749] Re: Evolution (3.12.2) with EWS refuses to connect to mail

2014-07-07 Thread Steve O
So this was odd. I nuked the original install and pulled down the 14.04
from the torrents just now. After the fresh install i couldnt log in to the
UI. After a little digging i found that the installer set the uid of my
home partition to 1001. Changing this to uid 1000 allowed me to log in.

While i wait for the utopic image i am going to put the gnome staging ppa
in and give that a go to see if i can reproduce my previous problem off of
a fresh install

[Bug 1307615] Re: update-notifier broken/missing icon in notification area

2014-04-17 Thread Steve O
Do you have a specific version you would like me to downgrade? I usually
do all of my updates from the CLI so I almost never see the notification
icons, therefore I cannot pinpoint when exactly it broke.

I can tell you that I did a fresh install of Beta2 on April 6/7
(previously I was just updating from Alpha 1) I am not sure if that
helps or not. I can also provide update logs/dates if that also helps

[Bug 1303832] [NEW] ping requires sudo permissions

2014-04-07 Thread Steve O
Public bug reported:

I have been running 14.04 since Alpha 1 and simply updating. Sometime
between Beta 1 and Beta 2 ping began to require sudo. I cannot pin
point a specific time/update as I don't use ping that frequently.

I have confirmed that on a fresh install from the daily build that this
issue is still present. I have tried rolling back to the 3.13.0.17
kernel (the kernel used prior to latest update) but the issue persisted.

This is on a System76 Galago UltraPro

[Bug 479226] Re: Cannot authenticate using PolicyKit dialogs with domain credentials, prompts for local user

2014-03-11 Thread Steve O
This bug affects me, too (with Likewise Open 6, however). My workaround
is a two-pronged approach. Let's assume that you want the Domain Users
group to have both sudo and administrative rights on the local machine.
(Usually, it's only Domain Admins or another group, but we have a
special configuration where I am.) First, I added the Domain Users group
to the sudoers file (accessed by typing "sudo visudo" on an account that
already has sudoer rights, or by running "visudo" simply as root). I
then added the following line on the section with the header "Members of
the admin group":

%domain^users ALL=(ALL) ALL

Please note that depending on your setup, you may have to add the domain
explicitly:

%DOMAIN\\domain^users ALL=(ALL) ALL

So now all people in the Domain Users group have sudo access! They can
type "sudo " in any command prompt and it should work fine.
BUT, if your users use the GUI, we still have the problem that any
Policy Kit dialog boxes that pop up do not recognize this authority and
demand you log in as root or as a local administrator.

So, following David Norris' suggestion, I navigated to
/etc/polkit-1/localauthority.conf.d/ and added a new file called "52
-likewise-admin.conf". The 52 is just because there were already files
in there that started with "50" and "51", and I know that the
configuration files get loaded in order based on their number. So the
"52" is arbitrary. The file contents are as follows:

[Configuration]
AdminIdentities=unix-group:domain^users

AS BEFORE, you may need to explicitly state your domain, as follows:

[Configuration]
AdminIdentities=unix-group:DOMAIN\\domain^users

Of course, change "domain^users" to "domain^admins" or other groups as
necessary. I hope this helps some people.

[Bug 1058315] Re: ubuntu firefox modifications add-on makes firefox is unresponsive when accessing webserver using windows based authentication

2013-12-02 Thread Steve O
Just did a little bit of testing, and this problem does not seem to
occur on basic authentication, only on pages with Windows-based
authentication dialog boxes. To confirm, I used tested Firefox running
Ubuntu Firefox Modifications using the public testing endpoint at
https://httpbin.org/basic-auth/user/passwd (with both HTTP and HTTPS).
The username is "user" and the password is "passwd" for this particular
endpoint. No problems were encountered here, since this is basic
authentication instead of Windows authentication.

[Bug 1058315] Re: ubuntu firefox modifications add-on makes firefox is unresponsive when accessing webserver using windows based authentication

2013-12-02 Thread Steve O
I am also seeing this behavior. It is causing significant problems for
us, unfortunately. HOWEVER, it only seems to happen on pages with
Windows authentication dialog boxes under HTTPS. This does not seem to
be a problem using insecure HTTP. (But since we have to use HTTPS for
security, that observation is moot for us.)

I have tested this on versions of Firefox ranging from 14.0.1 to 25.0.1
(and Ubuntu Firefox Modifications versions 2.1.1 to 2.7) and they all
exhibit the same behavior.

I hope an update comes soon. :)
