[Bug 908409] [NEW] eog cannot delete files outside of the home partition

2011-12-24 Thread Steve Sutton
Public bug reported:

Distro: 10.04.3 LTS
eog:
  Installed: 2.30.0-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.30.0-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.30.0-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Steps to reproduce:-

Open image file from a partition other than the one on which ~ exists, in eog
Delete image (e.g. via DEL key), and confirm action.

Actual behaviour:-
Message saying "Couldn't access Deleted Items folder"

Expected behaviour:-
File deleted (or moved to wastebasket)

Please note, this is NOT A DUPLICATE.
A similar issue was reported here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eog/+bug/42571
This issue is closed as fixed. It was re-opened, because a problem clearly
still exists, but subsequently closed again with the justification that any
similar problem is in fact "A DIFFERENT ONE" (as in "not a duplicate"):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eog/+bug/42571/comments/10

To emphasise, the original bug is marked as fixed, and the maintainers
insist that we now have a new bug which behaves in exactly the same way.
If you close this ticket as a duplicate, the issue will not get fixed.
The problem I describe above is real, and exists.

Thank you!

Off topic, but the multiple mount can be caused if you miss trailing
slashes off the mountpoint in fstab

[Bug 211631] Re: Network is brought down before network filesystems are unmounted (CIFS timeout at shutdown)

2011-08-10 Thread Steve Sutton
@jonbonjovi, @c0l2e did say :)

Put it in /etc/init/dbus.conf. You'll probably find an existing pre-
start/end script section in it (I did in mine). Just paste all the
lines (including the pre-stop and end script lines) into that file,
after the existing end script, or before the line that starts "exec" if
you don't have a pre-start section in yours.

I found that it didn't work the first time I rebooted (maybe the script
is read and cached somewhere before I changed it), but the next time I
rebooted, it worked.

update + upgrade works (i.e. fixed cron) on 10.04 server LTS, on a cron

Apoligies dirk. Email was not sent by me. I in no way want you to join my
"professional network"--whatever that is. I do not know how it happened. I
shall look into it. Thanks for alerting me to the fact that this was
happening.

[Bug 214852] Re: Nautilus Sharing options requires root password, but does not ask

2008-04-11 Thread Steve Sutton
I installed libpam-smbpass and sharing from the desktop worked and then
removed it again, and sharing folders from ext3 filesystems works fine.
What i failed to realise before was that i was trying to share folders
from a fat32 system, which the installation of libpam-smbpass did not
fix. So, the bug, as experienced by me, is now "Nautilus Sharing
options requires root password on fat32 filesystems, but does not ask".
My apologies for not realising this before.

[Bug 214852] [NEW] Nautilus Sharing options requires root password, but does not ask

2008-04-09 Thread Steve Sutton
Public bug reported:

When I try and create a shared folder in Nautilus as a normal user it
gives an error message "Cannot hange permissions of the folder". This
occurs when i click the create share button in the sharing options
dialog. This error occurs no matter what permissions i have set on the
folder (even when it is set to 777). But it is resolved if nautilus is
run as root. However when run as a normal user, nautilus does not ask
for my password to do this particular operation, so i am left to launch
it myself as root from the command line.

This is important to fix as noobs will not know how to get around this

[Bug 206083] Re: "NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200" & "3DEarth Model" plasmoid

2008-04-05 Thread Steve Sutton
I had the same problem, except not with a NVidia card, but instead with
an Intel i810 card. So clearly this is not just a NVidia specific
problem. Since then i have been unable to restore the panel to KDE4
(even by complete removal and reinstallation) rendering KDE4 useless.
I've attached my backtrace from the crash of plasma

[Bug 206941] Re: gnome-system-monitor graphs scroll 5x too quickly

2008-03-25 Thread Steve Sutton
** Description changed:

In Hardy Beta, the default settings for gnome system monitor graphs
(found in Edit>>Preferences>>Resources has the CPU Networking and Memory
graphs all updating ever 1 second. However these settings cause the
actual graphs to update 5 times every second. Similarly, when the
update interval is set to 10 seconds, the actual grpahs update every 2
- (when set to 5, they update very 1 second).
+ seconds (when set to 5sec, they update very 1 sec).
+
+ yet, whilst the graphs are being updated too fast, every 5 updates to
+ the graph (ie the period of time set in the updtae interval dialog) the
+ whole line will jump up 1 pixel and then back down again for the next
+ update to the graph

Not sure if this is needed but i'll add it anyway: This bug was
experienced on a Toshiba Laptop 1.5Ghz single core centrino 512Mb ram at

[Bug 206938] [NEW] Login Window Preferencs dialog takes a long time to load

2008-03-25 Thread Steve Sutton
Public bug reported:

In Hardy Beta, when opening the login window preferences dialog
(/usr/sbin/gdmsetup) for the first time after login it takes well over a
minute to go from the password dialog to opening the actual preferences
window. During this time CPU load is not above normal system idle,
however the HDD is being accessed for a brief instant about twice every
second. This bug is related to the gdm package. This bug was
experienced on a Toshiba laptop, 1.5GHz Centrino, 512MB ram(at 400mhz).
