[Bug 357673] Re: No notification when sliding audio volume, muting volume, sliding LCD brightness on X31, X32, T60, R50e, T42, R52

2009-04-28 Thread Steve Zemanek
here is a workaround for those who are interested:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/i386/hotkey-setup/download
downgrade to the version of hotkey-setup in intrepid repository

it fixed my ThinkPad T60

[Bug 357673] Re: No notification when sliding audio volume, muting volume, sliding LCD brightness on X31, X32, T60, R50e, T42, R52

2009-04-27 Thread Steve Zemanek
Confirmed bug on ThinkPad T60 -- please note, this did *NOT* happen when
I was running 9.04 Beta and Release Candidates.

I first noticed this problem in the stable release of 9.04 Jaunty
Jackalope

Also, I'd like to confirm this bug on my friend's ThinkPad SL300 same
problem but worst, he cannot control the volume (or mute) using the
buttons at all, nor can he control the brightness using the buttons, he
has to use the Brightness and Volume control applets in GNOME.

[Bug 308370] Re: Rythmbox freezes very often with Accessibility support enabled when using multimedia keys

2009-02-11 Thread Steve Zemanek
i'd like to confirm this bug

the weird thing is, i didn't know I even had accessibility enabled on my
laptop until i went to "system > assistive technologies"

but I do have a workaround:

use gconf-editor:
and set "/apps/rhythmbox/plugins/mmkeys/active" to FALSE

the only problem with this workaround is that you can't use pause/play
and skip buttons on your keyboard

running virtualbox, i just installed a big batch of updates, including
kernel updates, and i can't figure out which update caused this problem

[Bug 312735] Re: X server hangs at boot time when running on battery power

2009-01-26 Thread Steve Zemanek
Lars,
Thank you for that work around, that did the trick for me.
--auto-powerstates=off would prevent X from crashing if the computer already
boot in AC power, but did not fix the problem with booting on battery

--acpi-services=off solved the bootup problem

Thanks

[Bug 232099] Re: brightness is not saved and restored correctly

2008-05-20 Thread Steve Zemanek
I'm having the same problem, I like the laptop to be at full brightness
when on AC power

I'm running a ThinkPad T60 w/ an ATI Radeon x1400

when I plug the power back in, i need to manually readjust the
brightness settings, i played around with gconf-editor, but even with
the AC brightness turned to "100" it's still not full brightness.

I didn't have this problem in 7.10, I recently did a fresh new install
of ubuntu 8.04 on this laptop, and now i'm having this problem.

[Bug 181106] KGPG requires Konsole

2008-01-07 Thread Steve Zemanek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kgpg

If you are installing kgpg on ubuntu (gnome, not kubuntu KDE) you need
to make sure you install the Konsole to use many of the features. So
either kgpg should be modified to allow the use of any terminal program,
or Konsole should be automatically installed when you install kgpg.

[Bug 155082] VLC Shaky video in gutsy w/ ATI card

2007-10-20 Thread Steve Zemanek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vlc

I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon, After installing the
ATI Restricted Driver, the video in VLC became very shaky, and unusable.
Other media players, such as totem worked fine.

I tried adjusting gstreamer-properties which didn't fix the problem.
I tried doing a complete reinstall of VLC which didn't fix the problem.

Finally I finally found a simple solution:

In VLC goto Settings > (Check Advanced Options) > Goto Video > Output
Modules > and enable X11 or OpenGL output

I recommend that VLC defaults to one of those two options on a new install. I
never had a problem like this with a previous release of Ubuntu.

[Bug 97571] Re: Reset button in Color Balance controls sets Hue to wrong value

2007-05-02 Thread Steve Zemanek
hm, interesting, the color and hue is fine when I start gnome in XGL:
allow me to explain...

I typically run gnome in default X11 session.

but because I have an ATI video card, when I want to run beryl, I need
to fire up XGL. (I usually only run beryl if someone starts talking
about how pretty windows vista is.)

but the hue is fine at the default settings if I'm running XGL.

so... who knows
