[Bug 885525]

2019-06-13 Thread I. M. Stochastic
I found this bug recently after discovering that I have been losing
emails I had not intended to lose for an indeterminate period of time.
I am deeply angry, and I believe rightly so.

I have a gmail account. I'm using Thunderbird 31.6.0 on Ubuntu linux.
The thunderbird UI clearly states, under Account Settings / Server
Settings:

"When I delete a message:"

and gives three options, one of which is:

"Move it to this folder: " with a selection box.

I selected [Gmail] -> All Mail. Instead, when I push delete, the
message is not moved to that folder, but is moved to the [Gmail] ->
Trash folder.

Why, in the name of all that is decent and human, is that UI option not
simply removed, or greyed out, or annoted with a "this doesn't always
work" message, or SOMETHING, INSTEAD OF BEING SILENTLY IGNORED? The
thunderbird UI is lying to me, and I lost data because of it.

I really like thunderbird. I love that it gives me a really nice way to
use OpenPGP. I love that it is open source. I love that it is clean an
functional.

I understand (now) that I can just push 'a' instead of , and use
the archive function. If it was just a matter of having to use a
different keyboard shortcut, that would be fine.

I understand (now) that it is a little complicated to fix this due to
Google changing the text label of the All Mail folder under certain
conditions. I only mostly followed the technical details given by WADA
and others over the course of this thread. Maybe I've gotten some
detail of that statement wrong. It doesn't really matter. Ignoring the
option is not the problem. Special cases for gmail are not the problem.
The problem is that the UI said it would do one thing and in fact did
another, causing me to lose data.

This bug, it seems to me, highlights a deeper problem. The problem is
not that the code hasn't been refactored to either gray out that option
or make it do what it says. I understand that this is difficult and
time consuming for developers, and that there are other priorities, and
that this is a somewhat obscure option. The problem is that nobody
seems to have thought about this problem from the perspective of the
user. Even a static text message above that option would be preferable
to what we have now. It could say something like:

"Note: this setting is ignored in some cases. See ."

Heck, even without a link to more explanation it would be preferable to
what we have now.

[Bug 554393] Re: nm-applet will not connect using vpnc plugin

2010-09-06 Thread I. M. Stochastic
unchecking "available to all users" does not work for me.

I uninstalled all of my network-manager-* packages (pptp, vpnc,
strongswan, openconnect), rebooted, and installed just the one I needed
(vpnc). I now get a prompt for passwords, followed by a "Connection
failed" message.

revu package to Lucid? These libraries are still an active project.

** Description changed:

This is a statement of an intent to package OpenLibraries for Ubuntu. It
will start with the base packaging already done by the debian-
  multimedia.

[Bug 475853] [NEW] [needs-packaging] NASPRO plugin bridge

2009-11-05 Thread Eric Hedekar (stochastic)
Public bug reported:

Website: http://confluence.atheme.org/display/NA/NASPRO

License: BSD

Info:
NASPRO, recursive acronym for "NASPRO Architecture for Sound PROcessing", is a
free/open source, modular and cross-platform software architecture to perform
sound processing with a strong emphasys on interoperability.

Its main aim is to provide users and developers a set of full-featured
tools to do sound manipulation using heterogeneous technologies which
are already available (such as LADSPA or LV2) and at the same time make
it easy to develop new ones without breaking interoperability.

The implementation which is currently being developed is made of:

* an helper library to write bridging plugins to LV2 from other plugin
systems;
* a bunch of from--to-LV2 bridging plugins.

The plan is to also develop LV2-based tools to perform sound synthesis
and manipulation, plugin development and DSP algorithm research.

[Bug 459330] Re: Missing required font Vera.ttf

2009-10-23 Thread Eric Hedekar (stochastic)
My mistake, it is infact removed entirely from the current Karmic

though. That .deb file is available here:

Why was this package removed from the repositories without even a
transitional package put in its place? Many programs still depend upon
ttf-bitstream-vera explicitly. This "fix" has broken many other

For now, an easy workaround is to install the ttf-bitstream-vera font
package. I'll work on making a patch that will require this package on
install. Upstream has mentioned that they're planning on moving the
software to DejaVu since it's much more widely used.

[Bug 455239] [NEW] raw1394 permissions are only temporarily set

2009-10-19 Thread Eric Hedekar (stochastic)
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntustudio-controls

By writing the raw1394 permission to /lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-
default.rules the changes that Ubuntu Studio Controls makes is only
temporary. As soon as udev is updated, that file is re-written and the
Ubuntu Studio Contros changes are deleted. The deletion of the
permissions rule does not appear in the Ubuntu Studio Controls GUI. The
correct place for this rule is in a new file in /etc/udev/rules.d/

[Bug 362190] Re: xserver-xorg-ati driver + disk encryption + linux-rt prevents xserver start

2009-10-10 Thread Eric Hedekar (stochastic)
I have briefly tested this on a VM with Ubuntu Studio Karmic's Beta
(32bit version). Unfortunately it's clear that the VM was not happy
after reboot, it clearly was loading, but the resolution of the VM
screen was very messed (like 1600x400) and GDM did not successfully
load. I am still not able to test this on physical hardware, but it's
on my list of things to do before Karmic's release. I'm also not sure
this bug (if valid) has much impact on Ubuntu Studio as anyone using the
RT kernel probably cares more about disk access time, and encryption
would just slow that down.

ironstorm, that is not the correct way to mark a duplicate bug. This
bug IS VALID, it's just a duplicate. To mark a bug as a duplicate, at
the upper left of the bug's launchpad page click the "mark as duplicate"
link and type the number of the bug which this one duplicates. This way
all parties involved in this bug will be notified of changes to the
duplicated bug, and developers looking at bug lists will see that the

[Bug 429311] Re: installing esound requires removing ubuntu-studio-desktop

2009-09-15 Thread Eric Hedekar (stochastic)
Bug marked as invalid. Removing the ubuntustudio-desktop package does
not remove the dependent packages, the desktop remains functional.

The current behavior of removing the meta package when a pulse audio (or
other dependency) package is removed is desirable, as otherwise the
package would be re-installed as soon as the ubuntustudio-desktop is
updated. This would result in a broken package error.

[Bug 360590] Re: Please compile portaudio with Jack support

2009-09-04 Thread Eric Hedekar (stochastic)
Matthias, Jack getting into main is waiting on two things: 1) Bug
#416778 2) Jack dropping the celt dependency (easily taken care of, just
waiting on confirmation from jack devs that this will only cause a minor
feature in netjack to break). I'd say if you want to help on getting
Jack into main, focus on Bug #416778

[Bug 414131] Re: Upgrade mixxx to latest release (from 1.6.1 to 1.7.0)

2009-08-28 Thread Eric Hedekar (stochastic)
As it sits, we're past Karmic's Feature Freeze deadline (Aug 27), so new
versions of mixxx wouldn't get into Karmic unless a Feature Freeze
Exception were granted.

My hope in filing this bug as soon as I heard Mixxx 1.7.0 was released
was to get the upgrade done before the freeze.

This bug will likely have to wait until the 10.04 release now, at which
time I expect a sync with Debian to be the appropriate action.

[Bug 415680] [NEW] upgrade to new upstream version 0.7.1

[Bug 325004] Re: Upgrade denemo package from 0.7.7 to 0.8.6

2009-08-13 Thread Eric Hedekar (stochastic)
Hi Daniel

1) I moved the package to texlive because of the description of the
tetex-bin package:

"teTeX is no longer developed upstream, and has been replaced by the TeX
Live collection. This is a transitional package to bring former teTeX
users a decent selection of TeX Live packages. It can be safely removed
(unless some external packages still depend on tetex-bin). "

There may have also been a build issue that prompted this switch (I
didn't go looking for that out of the blue) but it's been a month since
I built this package and exact reasons have faded into the terminal. I
can try to re-create my reasoning if you need me to, but that would
involve repackaging this again...

2) You're right, that patch should probably get renamed to
04_ubuntuize.patch as it adjusts the default pdf reader, midi player,
and text editor. The naming convention was just inherited from the
previous package, likely created from a 'print to pdf' bug. Separating
the midi player change to another patch, just for the sake of sticking
to the patch's name seems silly since it's all in the same file.

3) Yes, probably you could but that would cripple the audio playback of
the software and many people would file bugs against this error.

Updated debdiff removes the
include /usr/share/cdbs/1/class/gnome.mk
line that was killing the build, and should no longer be needed in Karmic
anyway.

This patch hasn't been fully tested yet due to Bug #412634

[Bug 360590] Re: Please compile portaudio with Jack support

2009-08-01 Thread Eric Hedekar (stochastic)
This bug relies on Jack getting accepted into Main (as Артём Попов had
mentioned). However, before that can be done, all of the necessary
dependencies of Jack need to be accepted into Main (I believe libffado
is one particular important piece). Some members of the Ubuntu Studio
dev team have been talking about this/working on this for a bit now and
maybe if someone wants to spearhead this effort they could help guide
things along.

Here are a few other bugs that also depend on Jack's inclusion into Main:
Bug #152487 Jack output for xine apps
Bug #84900 libasound2-plugins misses alsa pcm jack plugin
Bug #109659 jack sink missing in pulseaudio
and this one that I've just reported against the Jack-audio-connection-kit
package:
Bug #407841 Jack package is not currently in Main repository which prevents
many Main audio servers from integrating with it
