Yes, I also haven't had this problem for quite some time in Karmic.
Hibernate works fine. Haven't tried suspend.

[Bug 450187] Re: package ibus-qt4 1.2.0.20090728-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2009-10-13 Thread StuJordan
Appears that /var/lib/dpkg/info/ibus-qt4.* files are zero bytes and were
corrupted during the hard-lock:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 372 2009-10-13 09:48 ibus-qt4.list
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 2009-08-24 12:19 ibus-qt4.md5sums

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 2009-08-24 12:19 ibus-qt4.postrm

Fixed by renaming the zero byte files and then

sudo apt-get install ibus-qt4

[Bug 410407] Re: flash does not recognise mouse clicks

2009-10-12 Thread StuJordan
I also had this problem which I can fix by disabling compiz. I'm also on
32-bit Ubuntu so it isn't 64-bit related.

There's a semi-workaround here -
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1275500page=2 that doesn't
involve disabling compiz which may help someone see what the problem is:

Hold down the right button. Keep holding it down. Then left click
somewhere on the page to get rid of the context menu. Now, still holding
the right button, left click on flash buttons, etc. It should work.

[Bug 448885] Re: Samsung NC10 screen brightness up/down function keys do not work

2009-10-12 Thread StuJordan
Hi,

Just to follow up. If I follow these instructions in the kernel bug
#12021 (http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12021) and switch off
the acpi (acpi=off) then I can control the up/down brightness. However
obviously my battery is no longer detected.

Changing the BIOS setting between Auto and User Controlled method of
controlling screen brightness doesn't make any difference either.

According to bug #12021 the bug was fixed with patch in bug 14052
(http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14052)

This bug concerns NC10 only and since the code is in the kernel I am
closing it. Please try the patch in 14052 for the more general
solution.

which is apparently fixed in 2.6.32

The code is in mainline, will be released in 2.6.32.

[Bug 448859] [NEW] Samsung NC10 built-in microphone too low to pick up any sound

2009-10-11 Thread StuJordan
Public bug reported:

When using the system testing tool I cannot hear anything recorded
through the built-in microphone.

When I turn up the sensitivity in the sound preferences to the max it
does seem to pick up sound, albeit with alot of amplified static.

The speakers are turned up and I other sounds play normally (e.g. the
logon sound). The microphone works OK in windows.

[Bug 314699] [NEW] segfault at 1cc in libgdk-x11-2.0 and libX11 when logging in via XDCMP with Hummingbird exceed

2009-01-07 Thread StuJordan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

I have setup XDCMP on the ubuntu server and can connect to it and logon
if I use XMing.

If I use Exceed I can successfully connect and get a logon screen (if I
disable RRAND) but when I logon the session disconnects.

In the message log I find segfaults in both gdm and gdmgreeter:

gdm[6597]: segfault at 1cc ip b79f28f0 sp bfc19b40 error 4 in
libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0.1400.5[b799d000+88000]

[Bug 278665] Re: On upgrading to Intrepid Ibex unable to activate nvidia restricted driver using the Hardware Drivers app

2008-11-02 Thread StuJordan
sure..

you'll need to install linux-headers for your kernel:

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`

then load up the hardware drivers gui again.

I actually managed to break my hardware drivers gui during trying to
fix it. I managed to install the driver directly via

sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx

and restored an old xorg.conf file that worked before the upgrade.
According to the file you can create the file automatically via

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

but here's mine:

[Bug 284543] [NEW] rt61 network card stopped working after upgrade to 2.6.27-7-generic

2008-10-16 Thread StuJordan
Public bug reported:

After upgrading with latest packages (including new kernel) last night
and rebooting the wireless network did not reconnect.

Network Manager showed no networks and a bubble box just said x x x
disconnected.

Dmesg (attached) reports missing firmware file rt2561s.bin. find
/lib/firmware -name rt*.bin shows nothing.

Fixed by

Inserting beta cd/iso
sudo mkdir /media/tmp
sudo mount ./filesystem.squashfs --type squashfs /media/tmp -o loop
sudo cp ./media/tmp/lib/firmware/rt*.bin /lib/firmware/
sudo rmmod rt61pci
sudo rmmod rt2x00pci
sudo rmmod rt2x00lib
sudo modprobe rt61pci
sudo modprobe rt2x00pci
sudo modprobe rt2x00lib
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
sudo /etc/init.d/NetworkManager restart
(or you could probably reboot after copying the firmware)

worked for me.

[Bug 277499] Re: NetworkManager applet shows the same connection twice in Ubuntu 8.10 beta live CD

2008-10-06 Thread StuJordan
This also happened for me after a GDM restart. I see the same group of
wireless networks 3 times. I also was prompted with the wifi password
box to fill in the details (although the password was populated
already). The wifi connected but with no reception bars and I had no
connectivity. Clicking on the 1st instance I was then connected OK.

[Bug 278665] [NEW] On upgrading to Intrepid Ibex unable to activate nvidia restricted driver using the Hardware Drivers app

2008-10-05 Thread StuJordan
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10 Beta I was unable to enable the
restricted nvidia driver.

Both 173 and 177 are offered and clicking on activate downloads the
respective driver. However the activation doesn't work and on reboot
xwindows fails to load (non-loaded nvidia kernel driver specified in
xorg.conf).

Running the install command from the command line references missing
linux-headers for the kernel (2.6.27-4-generic). After installing these
the nvidia restricted driver installs OK.

The Hardware Drivers applet should check for missing linux-headers and
install them beforehand.
