[Bug 2076973] [NEW] Remmina requires "domain" to view remote shared Ubuntu desktop, no idea what it is
Public bug reported: If I turn on remote desktop sharing on an Ubuntu 24.04 machine, and then use Remmina on a different Ubuntu desktop machine to connect and view/control the desktop, Remmina asks for a username and password, and a "domain". I have no idea what a "domain" is, and I have no way to find out; the remote desktop sharing settings on the "server" don't mention it, and leaving it blank on the "client" doesn't work. I don't know if this is a problem in Remmina, in the remote desktop sharing settings, or in both, but it's certainly a problem because it makes remote desktop sharing unusable and it's very confusing. Either "domain" is important and it should be very clear which value to use, or it's not important and should not be asked for. (I'm sure it's important when connecting to a Windows machine with RDP, but that's not what I'm doing and therefore shouldn't affect what I'm doing.) (This problem can be circumvented by choosing to use "legacy VNC" mode for sharing, which works fine and can be connected to with Remmina with no problem. But if that's "legacy", then the more "modern" replacement should work as easily.) [Bug 1960155] [NEW] [Quieter2, Intel Geminilake HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] Pulseaudio fails to detect card
Public bug reported: Sound worked fine on this MeLe Quieter2 PC. An automatic system upgrade happened. A day later I got the software updater popup showing that there were updates to install, and I installed them. Then sound didn't work. Both the automatic update and the manual update involved kernel, hardware, driver stuff, so I do not know which may be responsible. I know the sound worked at some point before 2022-02-03. [Bug 1944081] [NEW] Package Manager indicator has incorrect, old wording and bad grammar
Public bug reported: If I create an issue with installed packages, I get a "no entry sign" icon in my Ubuntu 20.04 top panel. (I am not sure which package creates this indicator; please reassign if it's not software-properties.) This indicator has a menu (screenshot attached) with text reading: An error occurred, please run Package Manager from the right-click menu or apt-get in a terminal to see what is wrong. The error message was: ' Error: BrokenCount > 0' This usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependencies This message has numerous problems. 1. There is no "right-click menu"; a left-click or a right-click on this icon both show the same thing 2. There is no "Package Manager" entry in the shown menu (there is the error message above, a separator, "Show updates", a separator, "Show notifications", and "Preferences") 3. It recommends running "apt-get" which should be "apt" 4. The error message has a space at the start of it 5. The error message uses straight quotes rather than typographic quotes 6. It does not end with a full stop despite being written as prose ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: software-properties-gtk 0.98.9.5 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.11.0-27.29~20.04.1-generic 5.11.22 Uname: Linux 5.11.0-27-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl icp zcommon znvpair ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.20 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sun Sep 19 17:07:00 2021 InstallationDate: Installed on 2020-06-20 (456 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Release amd64 (20200423) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: software-properties UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: software-properties (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1944081 Title: Package Manager indicator has incorrect, old wording and bad grammar To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-properties/+bug/1944081/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1935777] [NEW] Power Saving settings have incomprehensible meanings/labels for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Public bug reported: In the Power Saving section of the Power tab of the Settings app, there are two switches, one labelled "Wi-Fi" with subheading "Wi-Fi can be turned off to save power" and the other labelled "Bluetooth" with subheading "Bluetooth can be turned off to save power". On my machine, the "Wi-Fi" switch is off and the "Bluetooth" switch is on. (Screenshot attached.) I do not know what these switches mean, and I do not know what will change if I change their settings. Does this mean * yes Ubuntu is permitted to switch off your wifi to save power but it's not permitted to switch off your Bluetooth, or * it is permitted to switch off your Bluetooth but not permitted to switch off your wifi, or * your bluetooth is already switched off to save power but wifi is always on, or * wifi is already switched off to save power but bluetooth is always on, or * something else entirely? [Bug 1844426] Re: Impossible to set up Livepatch on Ubuntu MATE
I think the place to fix this may be in _spawn_goa_with_args in https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-properties/tree/softwareproperties/gtk/DialogAuth.py#n196. Perhaps that function should check for XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME and if it isn't GNOME, pop up a message window pointing to a wiki page which can then be edited by flavours to explain what to do to sign in to Ubuntu One and/or Livepatch in their desktops? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1844426 Title: Impossible to set up Livepatch on Ubuntu MATE To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mate/+bug/1844426/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Understood that gnome-control-centre isn't meant to be used outside GNOME. Public bug reported: On starting up LibreOffice, it crashes. [Bug 1770170] [NEW] "Insert Emoji" in typeahead-find window causes problems in Ubuntu MATE 18.04
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce, under Ubuntu 18.04: 1. launch a Caja window 2. type a few characters in it, so that it starts doing typeahead find in this folder, in a textbox in the bottom right corner of the window 3. right-click in that textbox and say "Insert Emoji" in the popup menu that appears (under Ubuntu MATE 18.04 at least) The system... does not like this. The pointer seems to bizarrely get locked into the Caja window, where it draws endless selection rectangles just when moving; alt-tab doesn't work; it seems impossible to focus another application. Fortunately, ctrl-alt-t to launch a Terminal works, in which one can killall caja. I suspect this may be because the caja typeahead popup textbox is ephemeral and disappears when unfocused, and popping up the emoji chooser overlay defocuses the textbox, causing the textbox to disappear, the emoji panel to now not have any widget to point at, and everything to get confused. [Bug 1700498] [NEW] Autossh does not notice when connection "freezes", starts new connection without removing the old process
Public bug reported: I have three machines, called REMOTE, INTERNET, and LOCAL. REMOTE and LOCAL are both behind firewalls (in completely separate places). INTERNET is on the internet. I need to be able to SSH into REMOTE _from_ LOCAL. To do this I have done the following: 1. used autossh on LOCAL to set up a ssh tunnel from LOCAL to INTERNET, which forwards INTERNET port 2 back down the ssh tunnel to LOCAL port 22 2. used autossh on REMOTE to set up an ssh tunnel from REMOTE to INTERNET port 2 (i.e., to LOCAL port 22) which forwards LOCAL port 10022 back down the ssh tunnel to REMOTE port 22 This means that I can now, on LOCAL, do "ssh -p 10022 localhost" and be connected to REMOTE. The first tunnel, point 1, is fine. However, the second tunnel keeps "freezing". A symptom of this is that port 10022 on LOCAL is "open" (I can ssh to it and don't get a "Connection refused") but the connection never connects. Looking at ps on LOCAL, I can see that there are many sshd [priv] processes from the remote machine (I have 44 right now). If I kill all these processes, then autossh on REMOTE seems to "notice" that this has happened and start a new connection, which works fine. So there are perhaps two issues here. a. For some reason the ssh connection goes "stale" and can't be used to connect. I do not know why this is; in particular, I don't know whether it's caused by network dropouts or by configuration or what. b. at some points, autossh seems to be realising that the connection doesn't work and starting a new one (good, this is what it's for!) but it does not seem to be killing the old one (which is why I've got 44 processes rather than one) I do not know whether these are related; I do not know whether autossh is starting a new process because the old one is stale, or for some other reason. I do not know how to replicate the "connection goes stale" issue; it happens over time, so if I come back to the tunnel after a day then it will likely be stale, but connecting and reconnecting to it five minutes later normally means it has not died in the interim. Testing this is very slow because it can't be replicated (so I have to wait a day for a problem to exhibit), and because I am administering REMOTE over the very ssh tunnel that this system creates (so I am very wary of doing anything that breaks the tunnel, because I can't recover from that without a site visit). The tunnel from REMOTE to LOCAL is created thus: AUTOSSH_GATETIME=0 /usr/bin/autossh -M 0 -N -T -q -o ServerAliveInterval=30 -o ServerAliveCountMax=3 -R 10022:localhost:22 -p 2 remoteuser@INTERNET The tunnel from LOCAL to INTERNET is created thus: AUTOSSH_GATETIME=0 ExecStart=/usr/bin/autossh -q -N -o "ServerAliveInterval 60" -o "ServerAliveCountMax 3" internetuser@INTERNET -R 0.0.0.0:2:localhost:22 I am happy to do some diagnostics, but not at the expense of cutting me off from the remote endpoint. I can provide tcpdumps, log files, etc to support this bug if I'm given commands to run to produce them.
[Bug 1697920] [NEW] Gnome Software front end showed spinner on all actions; had to kill service process to fix
Public bug reported: When opening Gnome Software, the front screen worked fine for me (showing the featured app, editor's picks and so on) but taking any action (clicking a different tab, or clicking an application, or doing a search) showed an empty window with a spinner. There was a long-running "/usr/bin/gnome-software --gapplication-service" process running; killing that process and then starting Gnome Software made everything work again (and updated the featured app to be the current one). [Bug 1677202] [NEW] Sound playback delays
Public bug reported: Sound playback on my machine seems to be delayed. Playing an error beep hangs for half a second or so before playing, making tab completion extremely irritating (because the completion itself also hangs); starting a video or music track is silent for the first second or so. This seems to be fixed, as per http://askubuntu.com/questions/218444 /sound-output-starts-delayed/440787#440787, by disabling pulseaudio's "module-suspend-on-idle" feature. I don't need this feature at all because my machine is a desktop box without a battery, permanently plugged into power, and therefore any minimal power saving it produces is far outweighed by the annoyance. However, since other people don't experience this problem, perhaps it's chipset specific? I also experience Audacity taking a long time to start up, which also seems to have been helped by this fix. [Bug 1660855] [NEW] Can't start gnome-software to show a particular snap package
Public bug reported: I'd like to be able to launch gnome-software showing the details page for a particular snap. I can do this for packages from the Ubuntu archive (gnome-software --details-pkg=inkscape works fine, for example), and gnome-software _supports_ snaps: if I search for ohmygiraffe in gnome-software it finds that snap package no problem. But "gnome- software --details-pkg=ohmygiraffe" does not work, and there seems to be no equivalent option for snaps. I can pass --search=ohmygiraffe but that shows search results with one matching result, not the actual install screen for the snap. [Bug 1644561] [NEW] Removing a snap removes its whole data folder, even if it didn't create some of the contents

[Bug 1581782] [NEW] Printed filed are incomplete (missing all text, some images) in evince but not flpsed
Public bug reported: When I try to print PDFs from evince, the resulting printed page contains only the first header image (if any) of the PDF and none of the other images or text. Additional information: 1. printing text from other non-PDF applications, such as LibreOffice Writer, works fine 2. printing the same PDF from flpsed works fine 3. printing the same PDF from xournal shows the same problem This suggests that the issue is not specific to evince but is something lower-level, but I don't know which lower-level component would be the problem. Since printing works fine from some places I don't believe this is a printer problem, but if it helps my printer is a networked Kyocera Mita FS-1010. I have tried using both the "Kyocera FS-1020 Foomatic/Postscript [en]" driver and the "recommended" "Kyocera Mita FS-1010 [en]" driver and the same problem is evident. ** Description changed: It is not very clear how one is best to have, for example, a Page with a PageHeader and a ListView, and have the ListView take up the whole page. I think that the browser probably hands off the URL in question to the download manager, which does not understand blob URLs (and should not). The browser should handle this itself; it is the only thing that can understand blob URLs, which may be (and in this case was) dynamically generated and stored in memory only. A combination of 2 and 3 might be useful -- add a .desktop key which apps can set, and if an app doesn't set this key and then does show its first notification, the user is prompted. So app developers are encouraged to set the key (so avoid their users being prompted for whether showing notifications is allowed), but forgetting still maintains the principle that embarrassing apps will not show a first notification unprompted. [Bug 1489643] [NEW] Paypal login cannot be assured to be from paypal
Public bug reported: When paying for an app with Paypal, the Paypal login screen is presented in an Ubuntu wrapper. There is no indication on this page that I'm actually looking at paypal.com rather than being phished or that some bad DNS has pointed me to a wrong site. The padlock in the top corner doesn't indicate anything I'm inclined to believe -- is it showing that the connection is https? Has it verified that I'm really talking to Paypal? How can I know that? This is encouraging people to type their Paypal password into phishing sites. The previous step in the purchase process, where I'm choosing which payment system to use, also displays a padlock, and that hasn't connected to any payment site at all. ** Affects: unity-scope-click (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: ""Paypal" login in Ubuntu wrapper" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1489643/+attachment/4453547/+files/screenshot20150827_230910161.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1489643 Title: Paypal login cannot be assured to be from paypal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-scope-click/+bug/1489643/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: When paying for an app from the store, if there is only one payment method available (for example, Paypal), then the "dropdown" of payment methods does not actually drop down in any way. This change is almost imperceptible, and I had to do it two or three times before I understood what was going on. [Bug 1489395] [NEW] Single star means "this number is the rating", but looks like app has a low rating
Public bug reported: App ratings are displayed as ☆ 4.5. Every time I glance at an app's rating my first thought is that it's been rated low, because it's only got one star. Then I read the number and realise that the app is rated highly and that star means "here is the rating", not "it's got a one- star rating". But the phone can lock, and when I unlock it takes me back to this screen. It's been like it for ten minutes, so I assume that something has gone wrong with the upgrade. [Bug 1483289] Re: Creating a new emulator is very confusing
Those are still code names; "rc-proposed" or "bq-rc" or "bq-stable" are things understood by platform developers. App developers do not and should not have to understand them. I'd expect the emulator list to not actually be a list at all -- create an emulator which is running the software that a real person would find on their phone after buying that phone from the manufacturer/carrier and then running "Updates" on the phone. If there might be more than one of those, then an emulator list which looks like "Bq Aquaris E4.5/E5", "Meizu MX4" would be much better. If there needs to be an "advanced" section listing channel names, that's fine, of course, but the channel names are both meaningless and confusing to app devs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1483289 Title: Creating a new emulator is very confusing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu/+bug/1483289/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1483289] [NEW] Creating a new emulator is very confusing
Public bug reported: Creating a new emulator from Ubuntu SDK is very confusing. As per the attached screenshot, I have to choose a "channel". The options open to me are: devel, devel-proposed, bq-stable, bq-rc, rc-proposed, and custom channel. I do not know what any of these mean. Which is being run on my Meizu MX-4? Which is being run on my Bq E4.5? The phone does not list any of these names in System Settings > About this phone, or in System Settings > About this phone > OS Build Details. The "OS" listed in "About this phone" is "Ubuntu 15.04 (r3)", which seems to not have anything to do with any of these channels. How can I create an emulator which is running the same software as my phone? How can I create an emulator which is running the same software as a phone that someone who is not a developer would have? The point of creating an emulator is to use it to test applications to ensure they will work on phones in the wild, but I don't know how to set it up so that it is emulating phones in the wild. ** Affects: qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1483289 Title: Creating a new emulator is very confusing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu/+bug/1483289/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1478075] Re: Sound indicator should only indicate ringtone volume
"It's true that with the current UI you can't change the ringtone volume while media is playing. But there's still no explanation here of why that would actually be a problem" An additional piece of information which may weigh into this discussion (I propose no solutions here) is that of apps and games which play sounds but do not play constant music. This may be because they are capable of playing background music but the user has switched it off, or that the app is not a game but uses sounds for various events. In such a situation, it is often very difficult to decrease the sound volume of the game. If the current foreground app is, for example, a game which plays sounds for events but does not have background music, then it's very unclear what using the hardware volume keys is *expected* to do in this situation. Application sounds obey the media volume setting, not the ringer volume setting (and I assume for this discussion that they will continue to do so, although see below). If the hardware volume keys are used when such a game is the current app, should they adjust the media volume? The phone is not currently playing any media, and there is no obvious direct feedback to be heard when the media volume adjusts (unlike, for example, the music app, where a media volume change is immediately apparent). But if the hardware volume keys adjust the ringer volume when there is no media *playing*, then it becomes effectively impossible to decrease the volume of the game's event sounds. Android and iOS both suffer from this issue, and it is I think at least partially because there are at least two independent volume settings (media and ringer) but they are presented as one context-dependent setting. Maybe separating out the two settings and making them independently adjustable would help alleviate this confusion (at the cost of additional complexity)? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1478075 Title: Sound indicator should only indicate ringtone volume To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1478075/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1480726] [NEW] All Alarm{}s show in all apps and no extra data can be stored
Public bug reported: There is only one database of Alarms in the phone. This means that every app which has anything to do with Alarms (or which wants to set a timer for anything at all) shows all the Alarms set in the phone, from every other Alarm-using app. So if my app creates a countdown timer for an event two weeks from now, that event will also show in the Clock app, and vice versa. Similarly, if my app creates an Alarm with a custom sound in it, the Clock app cannot resolve that sound's URL to a name and so does not know what to show. An app cannot store any custom data at all about an Alarm in order to enable this filtering to only the alarms that it created. I propose two new properties be added to an Alarm object: 8< Properties creator : string data : string Property Documentation creator : string The property holds the applicationName of the app which created this Alarm. This should be set automatically by the QML Alarm object, and so should be read-only to apps. data : string The property holds a string, which can be used by the app to store arbitrary data with the Alarm in any format it chooses. 8< An app can then choose to show all Alarms in the system (by acting as it does now and using the AlarmModel object), or can optionally filter to just its own alarms thus: SortFilterModel { model: AlarmModel {} filter.property: "creator" filter.pattern: new RegExp("^" + main.applicationName + "$") } If apps being able to see another app's Alarms is considered a privacy leak, then AlarmModel can be changed to act thus and so each app *only* sees its own Alarms. ** Affects: ubuntu-ui-toolkit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Description changed: There is only one database of Alarms in the phone. [Bug 1436630] Re: must unlock screen even if it was only off for a few seconds
Daniel, the setting "System > Security & Privacy > Lock phone > Lock when idle" sets how long the phone will wait, if left untouched, before locking the screen. I currently have it set to 1 minute. However, if I press the power button to turn off the screen, and then immediately press the power button to turn the screen back on again, I must enter my PIN again; this is not controlled by the above setting. At the moment, the phone basically locks every time the screen is turned off, and as far as I can tell I can't change that without completely disabling locking. [Bug 1388179] [NEW] After installing a new app, there's no obvious way to launch it
Public bug reported: When I install an app on the phone, the scope updates to have an Open and Uninstall button, but if I've left the Dash in the interim (and so can't use that button) then the app I've just installed does not appear anywhere obvious. [Bug 1354164] [NEW] No way to show power indicator for wireless mice/keyboards on desktop machines without battery
Public bug reported: I have a desktop computer running Ubuntu 14.04. Today I discovered that the battery status for my wireless mouse and keyboard are shown in the Power section of System Settings, which was very pleasing. However, there is no way to show the battery status in the menu bar on this machine. The options available for this in System Settings are: Show battery status in the menu bar when battery is present Show battery status in the menu bar when battery is charging/in use Show battery status in the menu bar never Either the batteries in my wireless keyboard and wireless mouse count as a "battery" for the purposes of this menu, or they don't, and I don't know which is true, but either way there is a bug. If the "Show battery status in the menu bar" dropdown menu applies to only a main computer battery (such as is found in a laptop) then there is no way to show the battery status of my wireless keyboard and mouse if my computer does not *have* a main computer battery (because it is a desktop computer plugged into mains power always). Suggested fix: add a new option, "when device(s) using a battery are connected", which would act as "Show battery status in the menu bar when battery is present" but also show the status in the menu bar if battery-using peripherals are connected. If the "Show battery status in the menu bar" dropdown menu applies to all batteries, including those in peripherals such as mice, then the setting is incorrectly being ignored because I do not have a power indicator. [Bug 1286513] [NEW] No indication that the emulator is still starting up

[Bug 1263153] [NEW] Can't load bookmarklets at all
Public bug reported: The Ubuntu browser will not allow me to load javascript: URLs at all, either from the address bar or from a bookmark. AddressBar.qml disallows javascript: URLs but is easily patched to allow them; however, with that patch in place, or when loading a javascript: URL from a bookmark (manually poked into bookmarks.sqlite), the browser shows a screen saying: Network Error It appars you are having trouble viewing: javascript:location.href=%22http://www.yahoo.com/%22 Ubuntu suggests you check your network settings and try refreshing the page. This makes it impossible to use bookmarklets in the Ubuntu browser, which is quite annoying: for example, the Readability bookmarklet makes it much easier to read pages on a phone-sized screen, and isn't available to me as an Ubuntu Touch user. It also generally cuts off the ability of people to deliver little enhancements to the browser before they get rolled into the browser as a built-in feature. ** Affects: webbrowser-app (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1263153 Title: Can't load bookmarklets at all To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/webbrowser-app/+bug/1263153/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1256366] Re: Unnecessary "Last updated" datestamp below "No software update available"
Speaking purely for myself, I actually find the date useful, because it helps me distinguish between "there are actually no updates to install" and "there might be, but I, your phone, haven't checked for a while, and there weren't when I last looked". I don't know how often the phone looks for updates, or whether that happens automatically, and it is not obvious; having the last time checked right there next to the "retry" button lets me easily see "ah yes, I forced a check yesterday" or "I haven't checked for a while", and it provides visual feedback that after I've pressed Retry, that it *worked* and actually did check. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1256366 Title: Unnecessary "Last updated" datestamp below "No software update available" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-system-settings/+bug/1256366/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This isn't just about the media keys. Remote Bluetooth devices, such as car stereos, can also display the name, duration, and current position of a song that's playing. The media keys don't know that, and shouldn't. Possibly this could be implemented by both indicator-sound and gnome- settings-daemon working in concert; the reason I suggested that it should be implemented *by* indicator sound is that indicator-sound already knows what's playing and what's next, and it knows how to control the currently playing media player, all via MPRIS. Therefore, implementing this all in indicator-sound would mean that only one thing on the device needs to know how to implement the complicated Bluetooth APIs, and any Ubuntu app which correctly integrates with the Sound Menu will also work perfectly with Bluetooth devices without having to do *anything* else, even handling media keys. A music application should not hav to itself contain a bunch of bluetooth code for sending song metadata, I think. Even if the media keys stuff does get handled by gnome-settings-daemon, the Sound Menu should be involved in order to send the metadata of the currently playing song to a remote bluetooth device, so I'm re-adding indicator-sound to this. ** Package changed: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) => indicator-sound (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1099972 Title: Bluetooth devices are not able to control and display playing music from apps and web apps consistently To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-sound/+bug/1099972/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1181790] Re: looking in /usr/lib/cgi-bin instead of /etc/awstats
I've just experienced this same problem; awstats was correctly looking at my conf file /etc/awstats/awstats.my.domain.conf and then it stopped working -- turning on -debug=2 (easier than strace!) shows that awstats started looking in /usr/lib/cgi-bin for the conf file. I'd changed various things about my awstats conf, so I don't know what I did that tripped the problem. I have worked around it by explicitly specifying the whole path to the conf file, so "awstats -config /etc/awstats/awstats.my.domain.conf -update", which works. Quite why "-config my.domain" now does not work is baffling. I can confirm that the problem is not about user permissions on files: awstats is explicitly looking in /usr/lib/cgi-bin for conf files, and I run the command as root. ** Changed in: awstats (Ubuntu) Status: Expired => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1181790 Title: looking in /usr/lib/cgi-bin instead of /etc/awstats To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/awstats/+bug/1181790/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1233370] [NEW] Can't quit the guest session if Unity doesn't show indicators
Public bug reported: I switched to a guest session (in Ubuntu 13.10) in order to take some screenshots of an unconfigured install. However, there was obviously some sort of problem with Unity, because I had no indicators in the panel. That's obviously a separate bug, but what was most unpleasant was that in that situation there is no sane way to get out of that guest session without powercycling the machine. There are no indicators and thus no system indicator with the user switcher or "log out". The guest user cannot lock the screen to get at the screen locker's "Switch User..." button in that situation (because there is no system indicator with a "Lock..." entry, and Ctrl+Alt+L doesn't work, although I don't know whether Ctrl+Alt+L didn't work because the system indicator wasn't there or because the guest user has no password and therefore is not allowed to lock the screen). There appears to be no process owned by the guest user named "unity" or "unity-panel" to try killing, so "killall unity" and "killall unity-panel" from a terminal didn't work. (Eventually I switched to a VC, found the underlying X process for the guest user, and killed it from there, but that's obviously not open to most.) [Bug 1227023] Re: Machine locks up a few times a day
I've now been successfully running upstream kernel for quite a few days and haven't had a single lockup, which suggests that the problem is not exhibited by the upstream kernel. What do I do next to help resolve this bug? I've set the tags as the bot message suggested above. ** Tags added: kernel-fixed-upstream -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1227023 Title: Machine locks up a few times a day To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1227023/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1231128] [NEW] Web browser on phone cannot resolve *.local addresses
Public bug reported: Viewing http://faith.local/ in the browser on the phone says it cannot be found (faith is the name of this machine). Resolving this address from an Ubuntu laptop works fine. [Bug 1229328] Re: [1080, Conexant CX20590, Mic, Internal] Background noise very high when recording with internal mic
I am confused. I used alsamixer to play with the settings for the "Capture" item. Setting it to L 0 R 100 or L 100 R 0 gave me clearish but quiet sound. I have now set it to L 100 R 100 and the sound is still clear, and perfect!
