[Bug 1792247] [NEW] Setting the current directory to a subdirectory of $HOME
Public bug reported: I'm using Ubuntu 18.10 dev with mame 0.188+dfsg.1-0ubuntu2 and I noticed that MAME defines several directories in its ui.ini to be located in the current directory (which is the users home) and some of them like history are also automatically created if MAME is running. To not bloat up the users home directory it might make sense if mame.desktop would set the current directory to $HOME/.mame or $HOME/mame to avoid this issue. ** Affects: mame (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1792247 Title: Setting the current directory to a subdirectory of $HOME To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mame/+bug/1792247/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

On testing this with Ubuntu 18.10 dev with unifont 1:11.0.01-1 I do not see this issue anymore on the flag at this site (the browser document, the tab title, the window title and the taskbar title are all fine). [Bug 1401318] Re: GRUB menu doesn't appear after showing "GRUB loading."
On testing this again on Ubuntu 18.10 dev with grub-pc 2.02-2ubuntu13 and this time by not setting GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT at all, setting GRUB_TIMEOUT to 0.0 and then testing with GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE being set to menu (while keeping shift pressed at booting), hidden (while keeping ESC pressed at booting) and coutdown (while keeping ESC pressed at booting) I'm still seing the behavior from the startpost. But according to the documentation at https://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub/html_node/Simple- configuration.html it should work: > âGRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLEâ > > If this option is unset or set to âmenuâ, then GRUB will display the menu > and then wait for the timeout set by âGRUB_TIMEOUTâ to expire before booting > the default entry. Pressing a key interrupts the timeout. > > If this option is set to âcountdownâ or âhiddenâ, then, before displaying > the menu, GRUB will wait for the timeout set by âGRUB_TIMEOUTâ to expire. If > ESC is pressed during that time, it will display the menu and wait for input. > If a hotkey associated with a menu entry is pressed, it will boot the > associated menu entry immediately. If the timeout expires before either of > these happens, it will boot the default entry. In the âcountdownâ case, it > will show a one-line indication of the remaining time. One could argue if a timeout of 0 can be interrupted by a button press or not but there are a few reason why it should: - Otherwise I see not how the wanted behavior from the startpost could be possible (booting to the default operating system at default without waiting and only displaying the selection if a related key is pressed). - The reporter from the upstream report claims that this has worked in the past. - I think the documentation for GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT also implies that a timeout of 0 should be interruptable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1401318 Title: GRUB menu doesn't appear after showing "GRUB loading." [Bug 1780466] Re: Kernel panic at boot
That all those kernels are working now was a bit suspicious to me. I did upgrade yesterday my system which also involved an issue: The vboxdrv (VirtualBox) kernel module couldn't be loaded anymore because of a format error or such. Since a downgrade from version 5.2.14 to version 5.2.12 of VirtualBox did not solve the issue and it looked like that the upgrade also made GCC 8 a default my guess was that the compilation of the vboxdrv kernel module with GCC 8 caused this incompatibility either due to a GCC bug or my kernel being too old. I also noticed that my boot time was some seconds faster due to vboxdrv not being loaded at boot. To make sure this issue is not related to the kernel panic at boot I tested the mainline kernel 4.18 RC5 again but it didn't panic now on boot. On testing then linux-image-4.17.0-5-generic from the Ubuntu repository it did also boot without a kernel panic and after 8 months of being haunted by kernel panics at boot I have finally an up-to-date working kernel again (also vboxdrv is being loaded successfully and VirtualBox works). My guess is that kernel versions after linux-image-4.13.0-15-generic with virtualbox-dkms being installed and its vboxdrv compiled via GCC 7.3.0 caused this issue. I'm not sure which of the 3 candidates is to blame here but the combination of linux-image-4.17.0-5-generic with virtualbox-dkms with its vboxdrv compiled via GCC 8.1.0 works fine so it appears there is no remaining issue (at least for cosmic except somebody compiles vboxdrv with GCC 7 as I guess the kernel does panic then again). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1780466 Title: Kernel panic at boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1780466/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1780433] [NEW] Installing packages doesn't always remove obsolete configuration files
Public bug reported: I'm using Ubuntu 18.10 dev with dpkg 1.19.0.5ubuntu3 and on upgrading/downgrading pulseaudio (mainly libpulse0) I noticed that configuration files were not always be removed correctly. For example the package libpulse0 1:11.1-1ubuntu8 doesn't contain the directory /etc/pulse/client.conf.d while the version 1:12.0-1ubuntu1 does contain it with the file 00-disable-autospawn.conf in it. On the first pulseaudio upgrade from version 11.1 to 12.0 by executing "apt-get download libpulse0:amd64 libpulse0:i386 libpulsedsp:amd64 pulseaudio-utils:amd64 pulseaudio:amd64" and "dpkg -i *.deb" (both as root) all went fine and the directory /etc/pulse/client.conf.d with the file 00-disable-autospawn.conf was successfully created. However, on pinning those pulseaudio packages to version 11.1, deleting the old downloaded .deb packages and executing both commands above again I get the warning "dpkg: warning: unable to delete old directory '/etc/pulse/client.conf.d': Directory not empty" in the installation output and /etc/pulse/client.conf.d with 00-disable-autospawn.conf in it still exists. If I remember correctly at some point on upgrading pulseaudio to version 12.0 again I also noticed that the directory /etc/pulse/client.conf.d was existing but the file 00-disable-autospawn.conf in it was missing but I don't remember how I got into this state (maybe some sort of follow-up error or I messed just somehow something up on testing). ** Affects: dpkg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1780433 Title: Installing packages doesn't always remove obsolete configuration files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/1780433/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have extended the test a bit by instead of testing if a manual irqbalance shutdown is fast or slow I have tested if the system shutdown is also delayed if irqbalance is manually shutdown before a system shutdown. I have made a few system shutdowns with and without irqbalance running and in the cases where irqbalance was running the most times the system shutdown was delayed with systemd blaming the irqbalance job on the console while without irqbalance running the system shutdown was always fast. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1729192 Title: Shutdown needs often longer than usual To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/irqbalance/+bug/1729192/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1729086] [NEW] Upgrading fontconfig-config causes fonts to look aliased
Public bug reported: I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 dev and upgrading fontconfig-config to version 2.12.6-0ubuntu1 changed its dependencies from "fonts-dejavu-core | ttf- bitstream-vera | fonts-freefont-ttf | gsfonts-x11, ucf (>= 0.29)" to "ucf (>= 0.29), fonts-dejavu-core | ttf-bitstream-vera | fonts- liberation | fonts-freefont" which caused at default fonts-dejavu-core being additionally installed. My system has also ttf-mscorefonts-installer installed which utilizes custom rules to emulate the sharp looking fonts behavior Windows systems had. But installing fonts-dejavu-core alone causes this sharp look to get aliased again in the most places. A workaround for fontconfig-config is to install fonts-liberation as it seems to not break the sharp look. I can't tell exactly which of the 3 possible packages is the main cause for this issue: - Is that the installation of fonts-dejavu-core alone breaks the look a bug? - Needs ttf-mscorefonts-installer an update to take over priority or such? - Or is it possible that fontconfig-config could also technically support ttf-mscorefonts-installer as additional fonts dependency choice? ** Affects: fontconfig (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: fonts-dejavu (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: msttcorefonts (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: fonts-dejavu (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: msttcorefonts (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1729086 Title: Upgrading fontconfig-config causes fonts to look aliased To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fontconfig/+bug/1729086/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1718336] Re: Firefox requires PulseAudio for working sound again
I just read this on the changelog: * Disable ALSA backend for Firefox 55 because it makes the build failure. This will remain disabled until somebody steps up to maintain it So ALSA support got temporary disabled because the current state seems to be not fully compatible with Firefox 55. [Bug 924278] Re: xscreensaver doesn't enable DPMS
I think Jarno and Jamie are misunderstanding each other: > Could the "Disable Screen Saver" mode be changed to not change DPMS settings, when not locked? I see no reason why selecting "Disable Screen Saver" should prevent kicking in DPMS at all as Jamie stated in comment #18 this is more or less a bug. With Jamies claim that XScreenSaver needs to control DPMS and Jarno's claim that "Disable Screen Saver" also disables XScreenSaver's DPMS even if enabled in the "Advanced" tab of xscreensaver-demo I think you guys are talking about 2 different things while thinking to talk about the same thing making the confusion just perfect. Correct me if I'm wrong with this conclusion. Then we have another issue claimed by Jarno that xscreensaver-demo does not take care and don't update it's values/overwriting with old values if the DPMS settings were changed by other means. Not sure if this is due to XScreenSaver being in charge of DPMS but maybe this should be handled in another ticket (so Jarno you could create another one and cc Jamie there). Also we have another feature request by me and Jarno how DPMS should be handled in special cases for example if the screen is locked (if it should ignore the users time settings or not etc.). This is something that should be handled by another ticket too but unfortunately since the actual bug why we are here does prevent to utilize XScreenSaver's DPMS at all more or less for some unknown reason makes it impossible to test how DPMS actually works to check if there is a feature request required or not. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/924278 Title: xscreensaver doesn't enable DPMS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xscreensaver/+bug/924278/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This is what the ticket is all the years talking about :) Comment #14 implied just a bit that this behavior could be intended if the screensaver is disabled so I wrote comment #15 with the potential possibilities how this could be handled. Good to know that this is indeed just a bug. The question is now why it happens. It is now over 5 years since I reported this issue against XScreenSaver 5.15 (currently I'm on XScreenSaver 5.36) and was not able to utilize DPMS in all this time. [Bug 924278] Re: xscreensaver doesn't enable DPMS
> DPMS is disabled, if you have chosen mode "Disable Screen Saver" in Xscreensaver's preferences. Is this really the case? At least xscreensaver-demo does not gray out the DPMS settings while it grays out the screensaver settings if the screensaver is disabled. So technically this would be a bug either in xscreensaver itself as it should not disable DPMS or in xscreensaver- demo as it should gray out the DPMS settings. I'm not sure if it makes actually sense to bind the DPMS settings to the screensaver settings as maybe the DPMS settings should just work independent and be able to standby/shutdown the monitor no matter if a screensaver has been enabled or not. Not sure what happens and what should happen if the screen is locked. Maybe the DPMS settings should just apply as configured and eventually there should be an option to apply the choosen DPMS settings as soon as the lock screen does nothing draw anymore (it sounds a bit as "Quick Power-off in Blank Only Mode" does this already).

[Bug 1486116] Re: Enhanced coloring of differences
I have noticed that there is the --word-diff option that does this. But all modes do have also some disadvantages: color, plain: They show the added and removed words on the same line without coloring the line itself which makes the changes hard to check for long lines. porcelain: It shows the added and removed words on new lines which makes them easier to read but the tilde makes the changeset quite big. Also all these variants break the usual diff format and maybe this is the reason why none of them is enabled at default. The in my opinion most effective variant so far that I have seen was either on SourceForge or GitHub. If I remember correctly the background of the characters from the word differences were just colored with a higher opacity to make them easy to see. I think it would be useful to add another variant to --word-diff to add this or a similar behavior. [Bug 1551690] Re: Missing dependency
Currently on Ubuntu 17.04 dev things have changed a bit. There seem to be 3 packages mainly responsible as the entry point: lxde-core, lxde- common and openbox-lxde-session. lxde-common claims to have a set of configuration files for pcmanfm and lxpanel but these packages are only in its "Recommends" field which looks broken to me as lxde-common would not be needed if you also don't install pcmanfm and/or lxpanel. lxde- core claims to be a metapackage and depends amongst others on pcmanfm and lxpanel and recommends lxde-common. Maybe its pcmanfm and lxpanel dependencies should be removed and added to lxde-common and the lxde- common recommendation should get a dependency. This way installing only openbox-lxde-session should pull in all required dependencies for a common minimal LXDE environment. Public bug reported: I'm using Ubuntu 17.04 dev with lxdm 0.5.3-2 and I'm noticing that lxdm tries to start over and over every few seconds if it fails (for example because the graphics driver is not correctly setup). This makes it difficult to login as root as on switching to the console lxdm switches back on its next try. Sometimes it also seems to not be possible at all to switch to the console with CTRL + ALT + F1. ** Affects: lxdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1644484 Title: lxdm tries to start over and over on failing causing to make a login at the console difficult To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxdm/+bug/1644484/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1563985] Re: "Restore" and "Maximize" actions from the taskbar have no effect
Edit: Ah, you was meaning the restore/maximize button between the minimize button ( - ) and the close button ( x )? They are currently working too. [Bug 1563985] Re: "Restore" and "Maximize" actions from the taskbar have no effect
On retesting this on Ubuntu 17.04 dev with lxpanel 0.8.2-1ubuntu2 and scite 3.7.0-1 the "Restore" and "Maximize" actions do now work independent if called from the taskbar entry or from the context menu of the title bar so maybe this was just an issue with scite. ** Also affects: scite (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: lxpanel (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: scite (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1563985 Title: "Restore" and "Maximize" actions from the taskbar have no effect To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxpanel/+bug/1563985/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1522988] Re: stdout and stderr are not synced on lines
So you have tried to reproduce this issue on a terminal and haven't seen mixed lines? [Bug 1640849] [NEW] Enhanced coloring of differences
Public bug reported: I'm using Ubuntu 17.04 dev with diffutils 1:3.5-1 and currently only the lines are colored for added/removed ones. [Bug 1640216] [NEW] /etc/systemd/system/ctrl-alt-del.target gets installed/overwritten
Public bug reported: I'm using Ubuntu 17.04 dev with systemd 232-2git1 and I have masked some jobs to prevent them being started and one of them was ctrl-alt- del.target. But I'm noticing that on installing systemd it does now overwrite the file /etc/systemd/system/ctrl-alt-del.target which does then enable a reboot on pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL again. ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1640216 Title: /etc/systemd/system/ctrl-alt-del.target gets installed/overwritten To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1640216/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1638518] [NEW] USB port gets rarely diabled until the next reboot
Public bug reported: I'm using Ubuntu 17.04 dev with udev 231-10 and rarely (happened now the second time within 1-2 months) I'm noticing that the USB port of my mouse disables. This happens randomly on the current boot instance and replugging the mouse into the same USB port does not solve the issue. But plugging the mouse into another port causes it to work again but trying to plugging it back to the old port causes it to not work anymore.
