[Bug 1874194] Re: Ubuntu 20.04 HDMI connected, no boot

2021-09-13 Thread Szymon Szantula
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1872159 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1872159

Lenovo Legion 5 15IMH05

$ uname -rv
5.11.0-34-generic #36~20.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 27 08:06:32 UTC 2021

NVIDIA Driver Version: 470.63.01

Had the same issue for some time, until I've "fixed it" recently. The
problem appeared out of nowhere after some update. Booting with attached
external monitor no matter if attached to HDMI or to DP over USB-C
resulted in total freeze during Ubuntu splash screen (for me worse then
BSoD from the rival product, couse no feedback what's going on...).

The problem seems to be connected with Nvidia proprietary drivers. From
what I remember it didn't occur when the nouveau drivers were installed.
Also it only affected the "hybrid graphics" mode (the "dynamic graphics"
setting in the UEFI). The "discrete graphics" mode has another issue
(brightness control does not work).

What finally has fixed it for me was the purge of all nvidia packages
and the driver reinstallation.

$ sudo apt-get remove --purge '^nvidia-.*'
$ su
# for FILE in $(dpkg-divert --list | grep nvidia-470 | awk '{print $3}'); do
dpkg-divert --remove $FILE; done
# exit
$ sudo apt-get install -f
$ sudo apt-get autoremove
$ sudo apt-get clean

After that reboot the system and install a proprietary Nvidia driver.

I hope this helps somebody.

[Bug 1744817] Re: Cannot make dump after upgrade to Ubuntu 17.10

2018-01-22 Thread Szymon Lipiński
This happens only when the drive is not mounted. Then I'm asked for a
password to decrypt it, and then I get the error on the screen.

However when the drive is mounted, then I get the error from the other
screen, and it hangs like that forever.

[Bug 1720133] [NEW] USB 3.0 displays are black on Ubuntu after x.org update to 1.18.3 or newer

2017-09-28 Thread Szymon Kunc
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * This impacts all Ubuntu releases which received an update of x.org to
1.18.3 or newer, i.e. Ubuntu 16.04, 16.10, 17.04 & 17.10

 * End users are unable to use their USB displays unless they workaround
the problem which currently involves disabling pageflip for modesetting
in x.org.conf file

 * The fix which has been submitted to x.org extends blacklisting
mechanism so the EVDI kernel module which is essential for DisplayLink
USB 3.0 devices to work is correctly recognised by x.org. Then the PRIME
sync is disabled in such case; The patch can be found here:
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=fbd80b2c8ebe9fd41229dc5438524d107c071ff1

[Test Case]

1. On a PC device with Ubuntu install DisplayLink SW for Ubuntu v1.3.54
downloaded from http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/ubuntu. Detailed
requirements and instructions can be found here:
2. Plug in a DisplayLink USB 3.0 compatible device, e.g. Dell D3100 docking
station
3. Plug in an external monitor (HDMI or DisplayPort) to the docking station

Expected result:
The external monitor should light up and show the desktop

Actual result:
The monitor remains black or shows frozen desktop.

[Regression Potential]

 * The patchset extends number of modules for which x.org changes its
functionality. It checks if "evdi" string is in the syspath so it is
quite unlikely there would be any impact on anything else then USB 3.0
displays which use EVDI module.

[Other Info]

 * The patch has been applied to Ubuntu x.org source code built and tested.

As a temporary solution you can run
```
sudo gem install jquery-rails -v 3.1.4
This will install package which meets redmine requirements.
[Bug 1422210] [NEW] Add potability to uninstall multiple apps from Storage page.
Public bug reported:
Version: Ubuntu 14.10 r17
Reproduce:
- open settings app
- scroll down and click on "About this phone"
- click on "Storage"
Result:
User is presented with storage usage chart and list of installed apps on device.
Expectation:
Would be nice to have an option to selection multiple apps and be able to
uninstall them in just one click.
I was playing with the phone and installed bunch of unwanted apps and then when
it comes to cleaning it takes me ages to uninstall all those apps as you have
to go to home App scope find an app press and hold (loading lime is very
long...) then click Uninstall and then Confirm... after all this is done the
whole Apps scope need to reload and you have to do all over again.
[Bug 1421448] [NEW] problem pairing Jabra BT2050
2015-02-12 Thread Szymon Waliczek
Public bug reported:
This is tested on:
nexus4 (vivid-proposed) #96
bq (stable) #17
Steps taken:
1. turn on Bluetooth on device.
2. put Jabra BT2050 on pairing mode.
3. click on "Jabra BT2050..." in Bluetooth setting on device
4. prompted with new page, click on "Connect" button.
5. New popover with this message "Bluetooth Pairing Request  PIN for 'Jabra
BT2050'   [textfield: ], click on "Pair" button.
[ at this point new handset is added to the list and "connected" sound is
played in handset but whole settings UI on device is frozen for about 15sec.
bluetooth icon in topbar is white-connected. ]
6. In bluetooth setting Click on ">" next to Jabra BT2050 to see more info.
7. Status on that page is saying: "Connecting..." while button at the bottom
says: "Disconnect" see attached picture.
8. open Phone app and try to call anyone, sound is coming out from phone
speakers.
After "forgetting this device" and pairing it again for few times I
managed to connect it and it worked but only to make one phone call
after I hangup I wasn't able to use bluetooth again.
If I good remember this time then it worked I was't prompted for pairing
password.
Any more info you need please let me know.
I must add that this handset works well on nexus4 and other phones.
[Bug 1245979]
2013-12-19 Thread Szymon-pysz
Hi all!
Recently I updated KDE to version 4.11.4 (Gentoo Linux). So far, every time
akonadi start without any problem.
I also check PID. The Akonadi PID is higer than dbus.
Very odd issue.
Regards,
Simon
Hi David! Sure, I've just tested your change and of course it works,
too.
Patching patch_conexant.c is not needed anymore in this scenario, as
inv_dmix flag is already set by a quirk pointed out by Raymond.
Thanks a lot, guys.
When I minimize Files after navigating to a location on a mounted (non-
root) filesystem, I can't maximize it by clicking its icon on the
Launcher. Instead, a new Files window comes up. I can still access all
the windows through Alt + Tab.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Files
2. Navigate to a mounted filesystem (a pendrive, for example)
3. Minimize Files
4. Click Files icon on the Launcher
What should happen:
Files window gets maximized
What happens:
A new Files window comes up, the other is still open, but inaccessible through
Launcher
[Bug 1134372] [NEW] newline appended to StaticHostname property
2013-02-27 Thread Szymon Janc
Public bug reported:
Hi,
Bogus new line is being appended to StaticHostname property on
org.freedesktop.hostname1 interface.
example output from d-feet
{u'Hostname': u'uw000953',
 u'IconName': u'',
 u'PrettyHostname': u'',
 u'StaticHostname': u'uw000953\n'}
changing line 28 in systemd.py from
static_hostname = f.readline()
to
static_hostname = f.readline().rstrip()
seem to fix this issue.
This issue is present in 13.04, 12.10 and 12.04  (didn't check older
versions).
[Bug 1070702] Re: Wifi disconnects every 10-30 minutes.
2012-11-23 Thread Szymon Guz
This is definitely a bug in the drivers for this wifi card.
I've got another HP 4730s laptop, I checked and there is another wifi
card: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-
Express) (rev 01). I switched the cards. The other laptop works only
using Windows 7, there is no problem with my card. After switching the
cards, my laptop works without any problem on Windows 7 and Linux.
I've made more tests. I've got two exactly the same notebooks HP ProBook
4730s. There is Windows 7 on the second. They are using the same wifi
router. When I ping the same host using both of them in the same time,
there is 0% of lost packets on Windows and 1%-9% of lost packets on my
Ubuntu. If there is bigger number of lost packets, then I just got
disconnected and I have to restart wifi.
