[Bug 604838] [NEW] Logitech USB Headphones 350 don't work

2010-07-12 Thread T McCool
Public bug reported:

I'm attempting to get my USB Logitech 350 Headphones to work with 10.4.
It appears that the systems knows they are available but I can't
configure to get any applications to use them (like music or video).

The preferences in system tools for the multi-media have been set to
give the USB Headphones preference and KMIX shows the USB Headphones as
well but no joy.

Any ideas as to how to make the configuration work?

[Bug 300693] Re: Thinkpad T61p hardlock flashing caps lock

2010-02-14 Thread T McCool
Update on comment 102:

After connecting to an AP -- ath5k doesn't appear to scan afterwards --
so if you disconnect from the AP you need to reload the module (ath5k)
modprobe -r ath5k modprobe ath5k. This is likely related to some other
threads related to the stability of the connection with ath5k.

[Bug 300693] Re: Thinkpad T61p hardlock flashing caps lock

2010-02-14 Thread T McCool
Just an update

I made the necessary changes to move from the madwifi drivers (ath_hal &
ath_pck) to the backport version of ath5k on a lenovo R61i. I'm testing
it with WICD and it appears to be working. The WICD GUI isn't
functioning completely correctly because of what appears to be some
issues with the ath5k driver once it connects to an AP. One sympton is
the GUI will not update the available wireless networks available and
their signal strengths. I've confimed that with the iwlist wlan0 scan
command which comes back with: wlan0 Failed to read scan data :
Resource temporarily unavailable.

Some background information:

[Bug 300693] Re: Thinkpad T61p hardlock flashing caps lock

2010-02-05 Thread T McCool
I'm having the same problem with Karmic using 2.6.31-17-generic.

I have a T61i with the Atheros wireless (AR5212) chip set using the
madwifi drivers ath_pci and ath_hal with wicd since I couldn't get the
ath5k driver with NetManager to work with Karmic. It will not recognize
my internal wireless card even though this same configuration worked
perfectly in Jaunty.

The problem only occurs when connected using wireless. I can be on for
days without an issue with a wired connection. No apparent information
in the logs outside of the following:

The T61i is not responsive (locked up) with the blinking caps light.

I'm tempted to try the ath5k driver again but don't know if that will
really correct the situation.

[Bug 501532] Re: rsync rename operation not permitted with SSHFS

2009-12-29 Thread T McCool
I'm going to close this out for this binary package.

There appears to be a work-around for SSHFS where you can add an option
called -oworkaround=rename that will work. I don't know all the
downsides of this --- it states some information regarding the operation
will no longer be atomic as required by POSIX. It was posted back in
2006 but the option appears to still work and appears to be unrelated to
RSYNC.

[Bug 501532] Re: rsync rename operation not permitted with SSHFS

2009-12-29 Thread T McCool
Using the command in the test example from the prior comment like:

rsync -a --inplace $HOME/rtest/ $HOME/Net/rtest

Seems to work around the rename issue by writing the remote file in
place. It does have the undesirable property of leaving the remote file
in an unknown state if something happens to the rsync operation.

Still don't have any better insights into the 'permissions' or
'configuration' issue. Don't understand why the 'copy' will work but the
'rename' will not.

[Bug 501532] Re: rsync rename operation not permitted with SSHFS

2009-12-29 Thread T McCool
Some additional information:

I set up a simple test with more verbose output from rsync below. It
seems that the rename fails but a copy would work. Don't know if that
means it is something with SSHFS now or not. Is there a way to 'force'
RSYNC to always copy a file?

[Bug 501532] [NEW] rsync rename operation not permitted with SSHFS

2009-12-29 Thread T McCool
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rsync

I have a SSHFS mounted volume and when using rsync (ex: rsync -av
/home/me/ /ssfsvolume) to copy files to this volume I receive the
following error message:

rsync: rename "/home/me/.foo.txt.jUTKCx" -> "foo.txt": Operation not
permitted (1)

It appears to be related to some sort of permission problems related to
either SSHFS or rsync in managing the file. In this case it appears
rsync has named a temporary file to transmit the file and then it
attempts to rename it to the correct name once it is copied and the
error message occurs. There is already a file with that name on that
volume in this case.

I don't know if the problem is some sort of compatibility with rsync or
SSHFS - a permission problem or a configuration problem.

[Bug 71008] bash command type -p doesn't evaluate correctly in shell scripts

2006-11-08 Thread T McCool
Public bug reported:

The following shell script use to work underneath drapper but doesn't
work correctly anymore underneath edgy - for some reason the bash
command 'type -p' is within a script it tries to evaluate the -p as a
file name. Example:

#!/bin/sh

WINENAMES="wine"
WINEEXEC=`type -p $WINENAMES | head -n 1`
echo "WINEEXEC=$WINEEXEC"

produces WINEEXEC=-p: not found

But run the expression `type -p wine` on a command line and it works
correctly and produces /usr/bin/wine

** Affects: Ubuntu
