[Bug 489413] Re: Please remove rapache from Lucid

2009-11-28 Thread TAC one
Beside you not having spoke with the right person, please remove it.

Rapache worked fine until Ubuntu 8.10, then some library changes made it
not work anymore. Since I had no time and chance to hack on the trunk
and given the fact that, notwithstanding the fact an easy known
workaround[1] was there, motus nor anyone else took the time to patch
the Ubuntu package, removing it once for all seems the right choice.

If ever (not for the next months) the development will resume, I'll make
sure to fork the current trunk and change name to the project. Just to
make sure people get to talk with the right ones.

[1]
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chromeie=UTF-8q=rapache+workaround

ps: i'm not on debian, as far as I know the debian package never worked.
See related bugs. Not - probably - Rapache's fault.

It's not working for everyone.
Seems like thread stuff, but I really can't isolate the right fix.
This hack works, though.

add this to line 80 of RapacheGui.py
# HACK : work around bug
if not Shell.command.ask_password(): sys.exit(1)

this will make rapache ask for password at the launch, or quit if the password
is wrong.
this will be the default behaviour in the coming upstream versions by the way.

Subscribing Emgent.

[Bug 308370] [NEW] Rythmbox freezes very often with Accessibility support enabled when using multimedia keys

2008-12-15 Thread TAC one
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I am on a relatively clean Intrepid installation (installed from scratch 1
month ago).
I am using a Dell desktop computer, with a multimedia keyboard.

Rhythmbox freezes very often when, while its windows has focus, I use my
keyboard's sound volume wheel. Usually, many other GTK applications I've
open freeze as well. I use a Qt editor and it seems unaffected. Firefox
also freezes less often than other apps.

This only happens with accessibility enabled.

How to reproduce:
 - enable accessibility, logout and login.
 - start rhythmbox (optionally start some other gtk app)
 - bring rhythmbox windows on focus
 - turn your volume wheel one way or another for 1-2 secs.
(note: crashes very often just adjusting the volume slightly, overloading is
just a way to reproduce the bug)

Expect behaviour:
  - sound volume change immediately without affecting other apps

What happens:
  - Rhythmbox freezes.
  - 1 or 2 other apps you have open freeze.

What to do when that happens:
 - wait. After a minute or two, your computer will eventually catchup

Output on console:
 - None

To be honest, I am not sure if it's only rhythmbox fault. I generally
feel gnome much less stable with accessibility turned on.

[Bug 187149] Re: [Hardy Feature Request] Add support for DM-RAID aka Dell DataSafe

2008-11-08 Thread TAC one
Reproduced on Intrepid livecd as well.

To install dmraid one has to:
- run livecd
- sudo apt-get install dmraid sudo dmraid -ay
- sudo gparted and partition from there.
- run the wizard, deselecting bootloader installation (would crash)
- instead of rebooting, open a terminal and
   - bind the /dev /prov /sys etc to /target/dev, /target/proc, etc.
   - sudo chroot /target
   - apt-get install dmraid dmraid -ay
   - copy manually grub inside /boot
   - type grub, and setup manually the bootloader.
- exit everything and reboot.

This shouldn't be so hard to do in the automatic installation.

[Bug 269656] Re: AN IRRELEVANT LICENSE IS PRESENTED TO YOU FREE-OF-CHARGE ON STARTUP

2008-09-14 Thread TAC one
Leaving aside how much does this sucks..
couldn't we just hack the start page for the first time ?
Sometime when you install a firefox extension, after rebooting the browser
you're shown a tab with the extension instructions.

So the flow could be like this:
- joe open the browser
- the start page contains a nicely formatted-no-all-caps eula.
- joe goes on gmail/digg/whatever, then closes the browser.
- joe opens the browser again
- the start page he sees is the default ubuntu one.

I believe this could be less intrusive. Sucks anyway, but maybe some
artwork could render the eula more pleasant.

I like the Iceweasel option very much. But I think having firefox
installed by default is very cool, and helps Ubuntu and Firefox brands
to enforce each other.

I think further effort to talk with Mozilla should be done in first
place.

2008-09-14 Thread TAC one
As Sebastian Bengtsson, putting the eula in the first page would be
nice.

Would be even nicer (but thats depends on Mozilla lawyers, and I don't
think it will be feasible) creating a page like the creative commons
one:
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
Such page would link or (better) embedd the full eula in a textarea.

Since i don't think it will be feasible (but maybe worth a try ?) i'd
go with the Ubuntu Web Browser idea.

Disagree.
Every good browser should show an EULA. Good developers first write the EULA,
only after hack a software around it.

I do have to say that with VT-X/AMD-V (which my CPU supports) enabled it
 feels somehow faster...

This night I booted with an alpha5 livecd using noreplace-paravirt,
chrooted my existing (virtual) alpha5 Hd installation, and installed
the 2.6.27-3 image. After rebooting it worked but, as the livecd
itself, feels very sluggish. For every thing I do I have to wait for
the screen to redraw (and it does *slowly*).

I am using Virtualbox 2.0 (1.6 had the same problem, though).

going to have issues with flash, skype and a number of proprietary
packages, other than current version of gambas (like my friend had) and
so on.

Wubi should ask which architecture install or (worst) just install 32bit
by default.

[Bug 251662] [NEW] [needs-packaging] Please package Rapache

2008-07-24 Thread TAC One
Public bug reported:

Please package Rapache.

Rapache is made in pygtk and let's you configure Apache using a GUI.
Current version allows creating/removing vhosts and enabling/disabling modules
on the localhost.
Would be nice to see it in Intrepid universe.

You can find the branch code and the PPA at:

[Bug 244486] Re: Vertical line across gPHPEdit canvas

2008-07-04 Thread TAC One
Could be the suggested line wrap width. Usually beetwen 60-80 characters
from the beginning of the line. Developers use that to know when they
should wrap the code to a new line in order to keep their code readable
and adherent to the code formatting convention they choose.

Try to check if there's something about that in the preferences. You
could be able to disable it or modify the place where it appears. Also
increasing/decreasing the font size used by the editor should influence
that line position. If you can reproduce this kind of behaviour I'd
suggest marking this bug as invalid

[Bug 229069] [NEW] Creating a launcher shuold give an option to perform cd before executing

2008-05-10 Thread TAC One
Public bug reported:

When you create a launcher it would be handy to have a checkbox to change the
current dir to the directory containing the executable.
This would help novices and give some relief to the support channels (I spent a
fair amount of time helping people to create .sh files to cd
/home/user/myprogram; ./program).

The target is little programs that come in tarballs like Phun or
TeeWorlds, where you have to change to the application dir before
launching them.

My quick and dirty solution for that was creating a script in /usr/local/bin
(es: cwdlauncher) containing:
#!/bin/bash
cd `dirname $1`
./`basename $1 $2 $3 $4`

and writing cwdlaunch /home/user/phun/phun in the command field of
the launcher creation wizard.

An integrated solution would be handy, and wouldn't require no more than
an additional checkbox on the launcher wizard.

[Bug 195021] Re: wordpress should package localization files

2008-04-15 Thread TAC One
Localization infos on a per-blog basis can be found in
/usr/share/doc/wordpress/README.Debian .
Localization files download seems not yet available for ubuntu.
To proper localize wordpress downloading .po e .mo files should suffice.
I'd change bug status to invalid or need-packaging.

[Bug 189118] [NEW] Teewars would be a nice inclusion for hardy

2008-02-04 Thread TAC One
Public bug reported:

I think this little game would be a very nice addiction to hardy.
I would even put into default games, (warning: it's a net-multiplayer only).

A .deb for gutsy it's already present on getdeb.net, so it could be easier to
integrate.
Every review I read about it was positive, the game it's very addicting and
could make the OS stand out a little for young people (while being quite light
at the same time).

Please take the time to check it out.

[Bug 182383] Re: Miro crashes predictably when playing videos

2008-01-22 Thread TAC One
Looking (very briefly) at the source seems like there are only xine renderer
and gstreamer renderer.
I heard they use vlc on windows and wonder why they don't offer it on linux.
If they don't solve this bug the very next release, a gui option to switch back
and forth beetwen gstreamer and xine without messing with gConf would be
appreciated.

Guess if they read launchpad reports or not.

[Bug 68308] Re: Meta-bug: Ubuntu needs major software RAID overhaul

2008-01-16 Thread TAC One
Raid support should definitely be fixed. Dell is selling raid 0 system
(and I bought one of these, by the way). Fixing would help them to
include Ubuntu as a choice on high-end system (I had to buy Vista)
