[Bug 317164] Re: [need-update] glabels to latest stable version Release 2.2.5 (Stable) in Ubuntu 9.04

2009-05-09 Thread TK
I found glabels 2.2.5 binaries in Savvas Radevic's PPA packages archive.

https://launchpad.net/~medigeek/+ppa-packages

I can again use glabels although I still have problems with cut and
pasting. As long as I manually type the entries and only use the
backspace to erase (no highlighting with the mouse), I can create. edit,
and print labels again.

[Bug 317164] Re: [need-update] glabels to latest stable version Release 2.2.4 (Stable) in Ubuntu 9.04

2009-05-05 Thread TK
The current version of glabels in Jaunty repository, release 2.2.3, is
not usable. Fields will disappear when changing the font, bar codes are
not editable, etc. Release 2.2.4 also has problems.

Please upgrade glabels to release to 2.2.5.

>From the author's website:

30 April 2009
Release 2.2.5 (Stable)

Packagers: please update to this version as soon as possible. This
release fixes a set of problems that made glabels unusable on the latest
distributions which use Gnome 2.26/Gtk 2.16.

Changes/fixes since 2.2.4 include

* Fixed spinbutton/adjustment bugs that made glabels unusable with Gtk 2.16.
* Fixed default preview colors in color combos.
* Updated german translation (Mario Blättermann).
* New templates.

[Bug 327246] Re: hp 1510 Printer error when multiple printing

2009-03-10 Thread TK
I too am experiencing this bug. The bug occurs in both "Eye of GNOME"
and GIMP when I attempt to print multiple copies of an image. The
command is: File / Print with Copies set to greater than 1.

My only work around is to print copies by printing one at a time.

For my HP970C, when attempting to print multiple copies, the printer
prints out:

 Error: /typecheck in --run--

For my HP6250, the printer simply starts ejecting multple pages of paper
with nothing printed.

For completeness, attached is an excerpt from my CUPS error_log when the
number of copies is set to '1'. The application, image being printed,
and printer are the same. The print job completes successfully.

Perhaps the STDIN being passed ghostscript contains the error when
copies > 1. When the error occurs (see previous error log), the STDIN
section of the error log contains:

[Bug 345183] [NEW] CUPS Rendering Fails when printing more than one copy of an image

2009-03-18 Thread TK
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cupsys

When using Eye of Gnome or Gimp, and attempting to print multiple copies
of the same image, CUPS experiences a rendering failure and nothing is
printed. Printing one copy at a time (COPIES=1) of the same image
works. When COPIES > 1, the renderer fails.

This problem exists in Intrepid 8.10 and Jaunty 9.04

example error_log entry:

I tried your example on 8.10 with CUPS 1.3.9-2ubuntu7. setting the
environment variable to my local PPD file, HP970Cxi,ppd. HP970Cxi.ppd
has duplexing set to on.

Invoking pdftopdf manually results in the same failure as when pdftopdf
is run from within CUPS.

ERROR: freed object:9 found

I've attached the out.pdf file. The file out.pdf contains four pages,
the first two are blank; page three contains the image, and page four is
also blank.

Also, as you mentioned, evince opens the file with errors:

Thank you very much for your assistance.

This bug also exists in Intrepid 8.10.

Would it be possible to also release this patch in the Intrepid pre-
released repository (intrepid-proposed)?

Can you provide some sort of time estimate when we might expect a SRU
containing the pdftopdf patch for Intrepid 8.10?

If it is more than one week, I would ask that you post the patch or
provide some direction as to where I might be able to download it.

Thank you.

http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_driver.cgi?driver=hpijs

My spooler files with ghostscript 8.63.dfsg.1-0ubuntu12 are now in the 1

[Bug 288570] Re: Ghostscript eats all hard drive space and prints errors when printing with 1200 dpi

2008-12-02 Thread TK
I also have been experiencing: "/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip
failed" whenever I tried to print large photographs to either my Deskjet
970Cxi or my Photosmart C6250.

In my case, the problem appears to have been solved by installing the
latest PPDs from Intrepid. My Intrepid computers have all been upgrades
and the PPDs for my installed printers in /etc/cups/ppd were from either
Hardy or Fiesty.

These new PPD files show the file version as follows:
*FileVersion: "hpijs 2.8.7"

The old ones were:
*FileVersion: "hpijs 2.8.2"

BTW, I have plenty of disk space; the spooler files often exceed 10
gigabytes but printing high density images does work.

[Bug 288570] Re: Ghostscript eats all hard drive space and prints errors when printing with 1200 dpi

2008-12-02 Thread TK
Printers such as HP's Deskjet series have very limited image processing
capabilities. For images, the host computer is providing the
rasterising. Each dot of ink on the page is defined by a bit in the
file being sent to the printer. An HP Deskjet 970Cxi is a CMYK printer
(four inks) while an HP Photosmart is a CcMmYK printer (six inks). Each
color of ink will require it's own array of bits.

When printing at 1200 dpi, each square inch of printing will require
1,440,000 bits per ink color. For graphics printing, the temporary
spool file will by necessity be large because it is the raster image in
PCL of what is to be printed.

Here is HP's PCL manual. Chapter 15 covers raster images and compression
techniques:

[Bug 288570] Re: Ghostscript eats all hard drive space and prints errors when printing with 1200 dpi

2008-12-03 Thread TK
I'm not saying there isn't a defect in the ghostscript code; I was
experiencing the same error message and extremely large dead spool files
in my tmp directories. After deleting these dead spool files I had
plenty of empty disk space but would still experience the
"/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed" for large image files.
Similar symptoms, but a different cause. I thought my post might be
useful to some but not everyone who is experiencing the error message.

But I do have a two questions. Your example pdf file contains a
1704x2272 RGB image scaled at 220 dpi. You desire to print this at
9295x12393 at 1200 dpi. This will also require interpolating extra bits
of resolution and color space conversion from RGB to CMYK or CcMmYK.

For photo quality image printing in Linux:

Where does the interpolation take place? In the driver or the printer?

Where does the color space conversion take place? In the driver or the
printer?

I also have been experiencing: "/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip

Chapter 15 covers raster images and compression
techniques:

[Bug 317164] Re: [need-update] glabels to latest stable version Release 2.2.5 (Stable) in Ubuntu 9.04

2009-05-09 Thread TK
I found glabels 2.2.5 binaries in Savvas Radevic's PPA packages archive.

https://launchpad.net/~medigeek/+ppa-packages

I can again use glabels although I still have problems with cut and
pasting. As long as I manually type the entries and only use the
backspace to erase (no highlighting with the mouse), I can create. edit,
and print labels again.

In the driver or the
printer?

Till, thanks for working on this update and your answers to my
questions. These two sites also helped me better understand how
Ghostscript, hpijs, and CUPS relate to one another.

My spooler files with ghostscript 8.63.dfsg.1-0ubuntu12 are now in the 1

[Bug 345183] [NEW] CUPS Rendering Fails when printing more than one copy of an image

2009-03-18 Thread TK
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cupsys

When using Eye of Gnome or Gimp, and attempting to print multiple copies
of the same image, CUPS experiences a rendering failure and nothing is
printed. Printing one copy at a time (COPIES=1) of the same image
works. When COPIES > 1, the renderer fails.

This problem exists in Intrepid 8.10 and Jaunty 9.04

example error_log entry:

For completeness, attached is an excerpt from my CUPS error_log when the

and printer are the same. The print job completes successfully.

Perhaps the STDIN being passed ghostscript contains the error when
copies > 1. When the error occurs (see previous error log), the STDIN
section of the error log contains:

Thank you.

[Bug 317164] Re: [need-update] glabels to latest stable version Release 2.2.4 (Stable) in Ubuntu 9.04

2009-05-05 Thread TK
The current version of glabels in Jaunty repository, release 2.2.3, is
not usable. Fields will disappear when changing the font, bar codes are
not editable, etc. Release 2.2.4 also has problems.

Please upgrade glabels to release to 2.2.5.

* New templates.

Can you provide some sort of time estimate when we might expect a SRU
containing the pdftopdf patch for Intrepid 8.10?

If it is more than one week, I would ask that you post the patch or
provide some direction as to where I might be able to download it.

Thank you.

[Bug 345183] [NEW] CUPS Rendering Fails when printing more than one copy of an image

2009-03-18 Thread TK
Public bug reported:

This problem exists in Intrepid 8.10 and Jaunty 9.04

[Bug 327246] Re: hp 1510 Printer error when multiple printing

2009-03-11 Thread TK
For completeness, attached is an excerpt from my CUPS error_log when the
number of copies is set to '1'. The application, image being printed,
and printer are the same. The print job completes successfully.

Perhaps the STDIN being passed ghostscript contains the error when
copies > 1. When the error occurs (see previous error log), the STDIN
section of the error log contains:

[Bug 345183] Re: CUPS, foomatic, & pdftopdf fail when printing more than one copy of an image

2009-03-22 Thread TK
Till,

> To let pdftopdf actually generate two copies do...

The file out.pdf contains four pages,
the first two are blank; page three contains the image, and page four is
also blank.

Also, as you mentioned, evince opens the file with errors:
evince out.pdf

Thank you very much for your assistance.

This bug also exists in Intrepid 8.10.

Would it be possible to also release this patch in the Intrepid pre-
released repository (intrepid-proposed)?
