[Bug 1338521] [NEW] [xorg-edgers] nvidia-settings-340.17 missing registry key file

2014-07-07 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
Public bug reported:

Running nvidia-settings currently gives the following error:

ERROR: nvidia-settings could not find the registry key file. This file should
have been installed along with this driver at either
/usr/share/nvidia/nvidia-application-profiles-340.17-key-documentation or
   /usr/share/nvidia/nvidia-application-profiles-key-documentation. The
application profiles will continue to work, but values cannot be preopulated or
validated, and will not be listed in the help text.
Please see the README for possible values and descriptions.

Seems like the file is missing in the package.

[Bug 1333658] [NEW] wireshark crashes when analyzing RTP steams

2014-06-24 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
Public bug reported:

When I choose Telephony -> RTP -> Show All Streams, select two steams
and click Analyze, wireshark crashes with the error below.

A similar issue seems to exist here:

I'm unable to share the trace in question as it contains customer data.
The trace is TZSP encapsulated which may make a difference.

[Bug 1010045] Re: 12.04 hangs on shutdown deconfiguring network interfaces

2012-12-12 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
@stgraber
That's oversimplifying things a bit. :)

As the OP, our servers have several interfaces which gives a server
access to various subnets. One of these holds the ldap auth servers. If
this interface is downed first, resolvconf will hang for ldap.conf
TIMEOUT time for every other interface downed. When they're all down (or
any default or matching subnet routes), resolvconf/getent passwd returns
immediately.

So... In my case, reducing the /etc/ldap.conf /etc/ldap/ldap.conf
timeouts or adding a blackhole route with a high metric value matching
the ldap subnets would work around this.

As such it can't be categorized as a bug. When I initially chimed in,
the problem was masking the infamous scsi kernel softlockup bug.

I'm still puzzled over the nss query resolvconf is triggering. I cannot
reproduce it with getent password or similar lookups. For whatever
reason resolvconf triggers a query looking for a posixaccount with
uid=\2a (uid="*"), which returns 0 results.

Networked auth is not configured in blocking mode. ldap is even setup as a
secondary lookup - not primary. I don't know why resolvconf insists on talking
to the ldap servers.

Re: [Bug 833368] Re: clustered lvm commands fail with "activation/monitoring=0 is incompatible with clustered Volume Group" error

2012-11-22 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
@robert

That doesn't sound like the same issue. Either no lvs would show or all of
them.

The actual error messages you're seeing if any could be helpful. The output
of pvs -vv, vgs -vv and lvs -vv would be helpful as well.

@robert We did not use the ppa but changing all occurrences of vgchange in
the clvm script has been working so far.

[Bug 1075950] Re: Starting clustered lvm vg pool fails with status 5

2012-11-07 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
The vg was created as a normal vg. Ie.
vgcreate vg2 /dev/disk/by-id/dm-uuid-mpath-.

Then I installed and configured clustering (cman, clvm, fence-agents)
and once cman was running I ran lvmconf --enable-cluster, vgchange -cy
vg2 and finally service clvm start.

At this point /etc/init.d/clvm complains with pretty much the same error
as here - I modified the script and added --monitor y to the vgchange
entries and clvm does what it should. Changes were suggested in bug
833368.

I didn't find a way to modify libvirt with the same change.

Also, I've just noticed libvirt should probably use -aly for clustered
volumes and not -ay as it is now.

[Bug 1075950] [NEW] Starting clustered lvm vg pool fails with status 5

2012-11-07 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
Public bug reported:

Starting or autostarting a clustered lvm2 volumegroup fails with the
error below. Non-clustered vgs works as expected.

# virsh pool-start vg2
error: Failed to start pool vg2
error: internal error Child process (/sbin/vgchange -ay vg2) status unexpected:
exit status 5

# vgs vg2
  VG #PV #LV #SN Attr VSize VFree
  vg21 10 0 wz--nc 2.00t 1.76t

# /sbin/vgchange -ay vg2
activation/monitoring=0 is incompatible with clustered Volume Group "vg2":
Skipping.
# echo $?
5

A possible fix is that libvirt calls vgchange with "--monitor y" param:
# /sbin/vgchange -ay --monitor y vg2
10 logical volume(s) in volume group "vg2" now active

[Bug 1010045] Re: 12.04 hangs on shutdown deconfiguring network interfaces

2012-11-02 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
Resolvconf seems to be causing the "hang" in at least one of my
testcases. It seems to be attempting to speak with our ldap
authentication servers. Strace shows it is trying to lookup the
hostnames of the auth servers and the connect to them multiple times for
every interface, making the shutdown process take a very long time.

[Bug 1050480] Re: iscsi-network-interface.conf broken after upstream merge

2012-10-31 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
I'm getting this error in precise:

# cat /var/log/upstart/iscsi-network-interface.log
cat: /run/initramfs/open-iscsi.interface: No such file or directory
cat: /run/initramfs/open-iscsi.interface: No such file or directory

I'm guessing it's related to this fix in quantal?

[Bug 1010045] Re: 12.04 hangs on shutdown deconfiguring network interfaces

2012-10-30 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
I have this problem as well.

Tried adding -v to ifdown in /etc/init.d/networking but it just hangs
with:

[...]
+ ifdown -v -a --exclude=lo

Running /etc/init.d/networking stop before rebooting works though.

@Louis

I've tested the ppa you pointed to on one affected host and it seems
like it fixes the problem. Thanks.

... I guess it's not my day as it apparently masked another problem.
Back to debugging.

[Bug 888071] [NEW] Exiting SIM PIN Unlock dialog hangs laptop

2011-11-09 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
Public bug reported:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 11.10
Release:11.10

Every time I log in to KDE, a SIM PIN unlock required dialog pops up. If
I cancel the dialog or enters the PIN and enter the root password in the
following dialog, my laptop hangs. Power off seems to be the only way
out.

I've searched through the logs but have so far not been able to catch
anything odd. It is possible it is lost due to the hang.

[Bug 874199] Re: ksshaskpass hangs forever when run from keychain during KDE login

2011-10-18 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
I noticed that when this problem occurs opening a wallet also seems to
hang. The wallet opens but the wallet looks empty and it is not possible
to add or delete entries. Once the KDE wallet subsystem is disabled and
reenabled, the wallet works again. This might be more of a KDE wallet
problem, than ksshaskpass.

[Bug 874199] [NEW] ksshaskpass hangs forever when run from keychain during KDE login

2011-10-14 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
Public bug reported:

I start keychain in my .bashrc like this:
eval $(keychain --eval id_rsa)

The .bashrc is run in the Yakuake console which is started during KDE
login.

It attempts to load my ssh key and invokes ksshaskpass to ask for my
password, which in turn invokes kwallet. Nothing happens at this point.
Other applications have no problem accessing kwallet during this. Only
solution seems to be to disable and reenable the kwallet subsystem and
rerun keychain.

Output while hanging:

KeyChain 2.6.8; http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/keychain/
Copyright 2002-2004 Gentoo Foundation; Distributed under the GPL

 * Found existing ssh-agent (2947)

 * Adding 1 ssh key(s)...

[Bug 874199] Re: ksshaskpass hangs forever when run from keychain during KDE login

2011-10-14 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
** Description changed:

I start keychain in my .bashrc like this:
  eval $(keychain --eval id_rsa)
+
+ The .bashrc is run in the Yakuake console which is started during KDE
+ login.

[Bug 631795] Re: Udev has a race condition with device mapper devices

2011-07-26 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
This sounds similar to what I experience.

On every cold boot, dmraid fails to create devices nodes for a secondary
software raid 1+0 device, which means that the "failed to mount, s to
skip mounting or m for manual recovery" message is shown. I have to hit
M, type dmraid -an, dmraid -ay and exit shell again to have the system
boot normally. (just typing dmraid -ay doesn't work - I have to
deactivate raid sets first.)

[Bug 785158] Re: Client 3.0.5 crashes with buffer overflow

2011-05-19 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
This seems to be caused by compiling glusterfs with -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2,
which also seems to be the default in gcc. I rebuilt gluster-client with
-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=1 and that "fixes" the problem.

Details: http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2004-09/msg02055.html

Quick workaround:

mkdir glusterfs
cd glusterfs
apt-get source glusterfs-client
sudo apt-get build-dep glusterfs-client
cd glusterfs-3.0.5
DEB_CFLAGS_APPEND="-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=1" debuild -us -uc
cd ..
sudo dpkg --install glusterfs-client_3.0.5-1_*.deb
sudo dpkg --install libglusterfs0_3.0.5-1_*.deb

[Bug 727160] [NEW] systemtap process probes requires CONFIG_UTRACE enabled

2011-03-01 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
Public bug reported:

Attempting to perform systemtap process probes with latest maverick kernel
results in an error similar to the following:
semantic error: process probes not available without kernel CONFIG_UTRACE while
resolving probe point process("6997").end
Pass 2: analysis failed. Try again with another '--vp 01' option.

This also prevents profiling, call graphing and similar to work on C/C++
code in IDEs like Eclipse and other using systemtap for profiling.

[Bug 515138] Re: kded4 (lucid, amd64) defunct on latop

2011-02-21 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
sudo rm /var/lib/update-notifier/user.d/ecryptfs-record-passphrase

... and the defunct processes are gone. At least on my laptop for a
while now anyway.

It's a symlink to /usr/share/ecryptfs-utils/ecryptfs-record-passphrase
which is an update-notifier "script" which seems to be a reminder for
the user to make a note of the key used to encrypt the home directory.
For some reason kubuntu-notifier-helper seems to choke on this file and
cause defunct processes.

There is a catch though. Certain actions trigger the symlink to
reappear. Ie. unplugging/replugging the AC power and the symlink is
back.

this is completely reproducible in the host without any guests running.

[Bug 633392] Re: Bridged Guests losing network connectivity

2010-11-12 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
I can now reproduce the behavior on demand.

I'll try to explain my setup:

A: Router.
B: KVM guest on a Maverick Host.
C: Other Host.

A, B and C are all in the same subnet. I boot B and ssh from outside to
B.

While in B I ping C. C initially doesn't respond and the arp cache shows
C as failed. After a while C suddenly starts responding and the arp
cache reflects C as reachable. Deleting the entry from the arp cache and
it starts over with the random delay before responding.

Now, dumping arp traffic on the host bridge and on the vnet0 if also on
the host side while running the scenario above shows who-has requests
coming through nicely. But the is-at replies for C only appears on the
host bridge for some time. It doesn't make it to vnet0. After anything
from 10 to 60 seconds a couple of the is-at replies makes it through and
the pings start getting sent and replied.

Here's the odd part. IF there's no other traffic from B (ie. ssh output)
while B is sending who-has requests for C, the ssh connection severely
lags. Getting a CTRL-C through takes quite some time. Usually the lag
lasts until B finally gets the is-at reply or gives up trying. But if
there's a lot of output from pings and a top running in another
connection, the lag is nearly unnoticable.

- vlan1000 on top of bond0 as bond0.1000.
- br1000 bridge with bond0.1000 as interface.
- vnet0 guest in br1000 bridge as well.

Looking at arp traffic outside and inside the guest:

br1000 (in the host):

So the arp reply never makes it through to the guest for some reason
effectively cutting off the guest from the network.

[Bug 584048] Re: kvm images losing connectivity w/bridged network

2010-11-11 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
I have not had the opportunity to test multiple guests on the Maverick
host since I've had quite a few problems with it.

Right now it seems like the problem I'm seeing is related to a vlan bug
very similar to the one reported in bug #658460. The outages appear
random but it looks like it occurs when there haven't been any traffic
for a while and the guests mac is cleared from arp tables in the
network. It may not be kvm related at all although I've only observed
the outage in a kvm guest so far.

[Bug 658460] Re: VLAN support broken

2010-11-11 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
These symptoms seems similar to mine with a little extra twist.

When adding a vlan to a bonding interface, all vlan tagged broadcasts
seems to arrive twice on the bonding interface according to tcpdump.
Remove the vlan and the double packets stop.

Ie.

modprobe bonding mode=1 miimon=100
ip link set bond0 up
ifenslave bond0 eth0 eth1
tcpdump -i bond0 -nes0

vconfig add bond0 1000
tcpdump -i bond0 -nes0

This MAY be the cause of the periodical network outages I experience
with kvm guests on a Maverick host. It seems like arp req/replies aren't
handled correctly/at all.

[Bug 584048] Re: kvm images losing connectivity w/bridged network

2010-11-11 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
I've traced the double packets to be a vlan issue and as such is not
related to this error.

That leaves me with a kvm guest experiencing periodical outages on a
Maverick host with no apparent differences compared to a Lucid host.

[Bug 584048] Re: kvm images losing connectivity w/bridged network

2010-11-11 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
I think I have this problem (or the problem at #633392) with a guest
running on a Maverick kvm host. But only on Maverick. I'm not seeing it
on any of the Lucid hosts.

The only peculiar difference I've found between the two hosts is that
tcpdumping the bridge shows double externally broadcasted packets on
Maverick, but not on Lucid.

[Bug 637974] [NEW] git-svn ignores subversion password-stores, overwriting auth-creds

2010-09-14 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: git-svn

I have password-stores = kwallet in .subversion/config and store-
plaintext-passwords = no in .subversion/servers.

When using subversion directly (ie. svn list http://some.svn.server)
passwords are stored in and pulled from kwallet. Auth credential file in
.subversion/auth/xxx contains passtype kwallet.

If I then access the same svn repository through git svn clone, I'm
asked for the password again and the passtype is erased from the
.subversion/auth/svn.simple/xxx file.
