[Bug 1424263] Re: Broken dependencies

2015-11-29 Thread Tamlin
Is the issue perhaps simply in the dependencies table?

21:44:40 jesse@Limbo:/tmp$ sudo aptitude why-not libgl1-mesa-dri:i386
p libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-vivid:i386 Provides libgl1-mesa-dri:i386
p libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-vivid:i386 Conflicts libgl1-mesa-dri:i386

Here we have a libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-vivid:i386 both providing AND
conflicting with libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 it should conflict with libgl1
-mesa-dri:amd64

[Bug 249448] Re: Bluetooth mouse does not re-establish connection after reboot

2014-12-30 Thread Tamlin
I had the same problem as Steve Murphy (murf-parsetree) #67 with my
Logitech M557 mouse.

Following Սահակ (petrosyan) #68 instructions has completely fixed the problem
for me.
The mouse will now automatically connect when turned off and on again or when
the computer is restarted.

I'm running Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon 64-bit
Cinnamon version is 2.2.16
Kernal version is 3.13.0-24-generic
Bluetooth/Bluez package version is 4.101-0ubuntu13

Esko, can you get your mouse to work AT ALL using the graphical
Bluetooth New Device Setup? (see screen shot)

If you can't get it to work AT ALL, I think perhaps you could try
reinstalling bluetooth, which provides bluez

run sudo aptitude reinstall bluetooth

On my system I have version 4.101-0ubuntu13 installed. Do aptitude show
bluetooth to check what version you have.

P.S. Hope my comments don't come across as condescending, they are not
intended to be ;-)

[Bug 1278717] [NEW] Submitt Disk Info to Musicbrainz Just Opens Website

2014-02-10 Thread Tamlin
Public bug reported:

Package: sound-juicer
Version: 3.4.0-1ubuntu1
Reproducible: Always
Ubuntu Version: 12.04 LTS 32-bit

I often get CDs from local emerging artists and they are rarely on MusicBrainz
already.
I use Sound Juicer to quickly enter the details of these artists and CDs and
add their CD to my mp3 collection.

A banner appears on Sound Juicer asking if I want to submit these new
details to MusicBrainz. I click to add them.

Unfortunately this DOES NOT submit the details. It just opens up a browser
window with the MusicBrainz website and doesn't submit anything for me. :-(
I have made an account on MusicBrainz and tried submitting while I'm logged in
but am still just taken to the MusicBrainz website where I can MANUALLY enter
the data (after having confirmed my email address, read their guidelines, etc.)
That's a heck of a lot of trouble to go to for just contributing to a community
database.
Sound Juicer has a much easier interface than MusicBrainz for entering CD
information and all I want, and am willing to do, is to submit the track
information so that someone else using sound juicer or similar doesn't have to
enter it, and I don't have to enter it again if I ever need to re-rip the CDs.

I've searched through MusicBrainz help system and it says that I can use
Sound Juicer to add tracks but it doesn't tell me HOW.

Does this automatic submission to work?

Thank you.
Jesse

[Bug 999645] Re: Freeze with unity 3d (12.04)

2013-02-04 Thread Tamlin
This bug, or one very similar, also affects me.

The freeze only occurs when using dash.

The mouse pointer still moves but nothing responds and the rest of the
screen including clock, pannel, dash, all programs, etc are frozen.

HOWEVER, Ctr+Alt+F1-7 still work to open other tty's.

The quick workaround that works for me is to kill compiz like so.

1) Press Ctrl+Alt+F3
2) Log in to a terminal
3) type ps -A | grep compiz
and make note of the process id (pid)
4) type kill (pid)
replacing (pid) with the process id of compiz for your session eg. kill
1274
5) Press Ctrl+Alt+F7

You should be returned to your desktop which will be missing a panel,
dash, etc. These will automatically reload in a few moments.

P.S. The following command could be substituted for steps 2 and 3. I have made
it into a bash script called killcompiz
sudo kill $(ps -A | grep compiz | awk '{ print $1 }')

# Correction #

The shortcut command would be better as:

sudo kill $(ps -A | grep compiz$ | awk '{ print $1 }')

The preceding space and end of line '$' ensure that you do not match
other processes with compiz in their name such as a bash script called
kill_compiz.sh for instance. ;-)

2012-12-13 Thread Tamlin
Perhaps a little closer, WOULD REALLY LOVE someone who knows this code
or at very least understands the language it's programmed in to have a
look at this 8-S

Only one file in the source that I downloaded contains GTK_IS_WIDGET

/opt/src/Gwibber-Source/gwibber-3.4.2$ grep '= GTK_IS_WIDGET' $(find)
./client/tab-bar.c: _tmp50_ = GTK_IS_WIDGET (_tmp49_);
./client/tab-bar.c: _tmp6_ = GTK_IS_WIDGET (_tmp5_);
./client/tab-bar.c: _tmp16_ = GTK_IS_WIDGET (_tmp15_);
./client/tab-bar.c: _tmp15_ = GTK_IS_WIDGET (_tmp14_);
./client/tab-bar.c: _tmp25_ = GTK_IS_WIDGET (_tmp24_);
./client/tab-bar.c: _tmp34_ = GTK_IS_WIDGET (_tmp33_);

So I think the solution to this problem may lie somewhere in ./client
/tab-bar.c

I've tried to figure out what GTK_IS_WIDGET() does but its like picking
up one one of Shakespeare's comedies and trying to figure out who the
main protagonist is related to by only looking at a single page
somewhere around the middle :-(

Bump - This was confirmed a month ago. I really don't have the skills to
know how to begin to fix this. I've tried downloading the source and
compiling that but there is no change. :-(

I think it must be something to do with missing GTK libraries or
similar, otherwise this wouldn't work for anyone! What GTK libraries do
we need to have installed and how do we check whether they are or not??

2012-12-12 Thread Tamlin
Is it possible that this bug is a simple oversight when the code was
compiled?

I've downloaded the source for “gwibber” 3.4.2-0ubuntu2.1 source package in
Ubuntu https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gwibber/3.4.2-0ubuntu2.1
and I'm going through it with grep but I can't find where gtk_widget_show is
defined. It looks to me like gtk_widget_show is a function and if so I can
see lots of instances where it gets called with various parameters. But I can't
find any file containing the code for this function. Does it exist in another
package?? Perhaps one I don't have installed??

/opt/src/Gwibber-Source/gwibber-3.4.2$ grep gtk_widget_show $(find)
Binary file ./client/gwibber-status-bar.o matches
Binary file ./client/gwibber-tab-bar.o matches
./client/tab-bar-item.c:gtk_widget_show_all ((GtkWidget*) _tmp1_);
./client/tab-bar-item.c:gtk_widget_show ((GtkWidget*) _tmp11_);
./client/gwibber-client.c: gtk_widget_show_all ((GtkWidget*)
_tmp9_);
Binary file ./client/.libs/gwibber matches
Binary file ./client/.libs/gwibber-poster matches
./client/gwibber-poster.c:  gtk_widget_show_all ((GtkWidget*) self);
./client/tab-bar-widgets.c: gtk_widget_show ((GtkWidget*) icon_service);
./client/tab-bar-widgets.c: gtk_widget_show_all ((GtkWidget*)
account_button);
./client/tab-bar-widgets.c:
gtk_widget_show_all ((GtkWidget*) _tmp41_);
./client/tab-bar-widgets.c: gtk_widget_show_all
((GtkWidget*) self);

As I said I don't know what language Gwibber is written in, if it's
python I don't know any :-( I grew up with BASIC and have used PERL a
little that's about the extent of my knowledge. :-s

[Bug 962535] Re: Gwibber in Ubuntu 12.04 will not complete facebook authorisation

2012-12-10 Thread Tamlin
Gwibber version 3.4.2-0ubuntu2.1 fixes this bug.

The changelog states:

gwibber (3.4.2-0ubuntu2.1) precise-proposed; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/lp_1058672.patch
- Use webkit's onload-event instead of title changed to detect successful
facebook login. Facebook changed the login_success.html file from html
to plain text which does not have a title set. (LP: #1058672)
 -- Ken VanDine ken.vand...@canonical.com Thu, 18 Oct 2012 11:24:24 -0400

To install this on Ubuntu 12.04 enable the Pre-releace updates
(precise-proposed) in Software Sources and install gwibber-service-
facebook

~$ sudo apt-get install gwibber-service-facebook

Then remove the Pre-releace updates (precise-proposed) from Software
Sources so you don't update and install all the newest untested versions
of everything. ;-)

P.S. I've tested this and posts I make from Gwibber now show up in
facebook, however there must be something else wrong with my Gwibber too
because I don't see any details of anything in the gwibber window, it's
just a gray window (see attached pic) :-(

[Bug 580408] Re: Option 'No' at question 'Continue without installing GRUB?' does nothing. Forced to answer 'Yes'.

2012-10-02 Thread Tamlin
This error is still not fixed in grub-pc:i386 (1.99-21ubuntu3.1,
1.99-21ubuntu3.4)

I use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and today did a routine Update Manager (gui)
package update/upgrade

I was presented with the grup-pc window asking me where to install grub and
given three options:
- /dev/sda [SSD drive]
- - /dev/sda1 [root partition]
- /dev/dsb [External HDD]

I selected /dev/sda and clicked 'forward'

I was then shown a window with a check box labeled Continue without installing
grub
Investigating the help button revealed a message saying the I had not chosen
to install grub anywhere and that this may lead to incompatibility problems on
reboot.

Clicking continue (without checking the box labeled Continue without
installing grub) sent me back to the grub-pc window asking me where to
install grub. /dev/sda was STILL CHECKED!

After investigating online I went to the command line and did sudo
grub-install /dev/sda which resulted in Installation finished. No error
reported.
I then went back to the grub-pc window left /dev/sda checked and clicked
'forward' then I checked the Continue without installing grub box and clicked
'forward'.

The rest of the update manager process continued as expected.

These are very alarming questions to ask a novice Ubuntu user who has
installed via a live CD. Fortunately for me I have heard of grub and
understand what it's for, but that little knowledge means that I also
know that if I screw up grub, my system won't boot!! As this is my ONLY
computer, issues with grub are extremely important.

I don't have the skills to assist but I thank those who are working to
fix this.

[Bug 1054903] Re: update-manager says Not enough free disk space but there is enough space

2012-10-01 Thread Tamlin
This bug affects me also.
I'm assuming it is something related to /var/cache being mounted as a tmpfs

I haven't tried the [Unity notification Update Manager icon - Install
updates] trick. Do you right click on the icon to get this option? When I run...
 ~$ update-manager
from a terminal it doesn't work even if I right click on the icon. How do I get
the unity notification?

When running from the command line I get these warnings...

 ~$ update-manager

 WARNING:root:directory '/var/cache/apt/archives' does not exists
 ERROR:root:Not enough free space: ['/var/cache']
 gpg: /tmp/tmpGDw2Px/trustdb.gpg: trustdb created

I check manually for /var/cache/apt/archives...

 ~$ ls /var/cache/apt/
 pkgcache.bin srcpkgcache.bin

I create /var/cache/apt/archives...

 ~$ sudo mkdir /var/cache/apt/archives
 [sudo] password for jesse:

I run update-manager again...
 ~$ update-manager

SUCCESS!!!

I try installing updates...

The updates work but I get the following list of error messages in the

I'm wondering if these are just messages that would appear anyway and
are not related to this bug? Any one know? I'm assuming that they are.

As a permanent fix/workaround I added the following line to /etc/init.rc
before the exit 0 line

quote
if [ /var/cache/apt/archives ]; then echo /var/cache/apt/archives exists;
else mkdir /var/cache/apt/archives; fi || die Command failed: mkdir
/var/cache/apt/archives
/quote

Now need to go tell the writers of the howto's etc on SSD that
recommended putting /var/cache on tmpfs ;-)

2012-10-01 Thread Tamlin
Oops Sorry that workaround should have been...
quote
if [ -d /var/cache/apt/archives ]; then echo /var/cache/apt/archives
exists; else mkdir /var/cache/apt/archives; fi || die Command failed: mkdir
/var/cache/apt/archives
/quote

note the -d  quotes added to the test... if [ -d /var/cache/apt/archives ];
Without this it will always return true and never create the directory even
when it doesn't exist.

feud*http://www.smh.com.au/technology/technology-news/australia-absent-in-google-privacy-feud-20120228-1u1g2.html

Today is your last chance to adjust your Google privacy settings ahead of a
major change to the way Google collects and collates data about you, its
users.
From March 1, the company will begin to aggregate all the information it
acquires about its users who are logged in to Google services into a
single, unified pool of data.
Advertisement: Story continues below
[image: How your web history page should look after you've clicked

How your web history page should look after you've clicked remove.
This collectable information is what Columbia Law School professor and
privacy advocate Eben Moglan refers to as the “data dandruff of life”. It
comprises the obvious and the obscure. Details you expect to be logged as
well as inferred data that is created as a result of joining the dots.
In the past, data collected in the course of a web search would be kept
separate from, for instance, your YouTube viewing activity, your Gmail
usage or your Map queries.
From Thursday, that will cease being the case.
And unless you specifically scrub your Google Web History, everything that
has been collected about your past search activities and the sites you
clicked through to, can be scooped up and combined with information gleaned
from usage on other Google-owned sites.
The changes will allow Google to better target ads to users and in doing
so, enable the company to extract a higher price from advertisers. This is
not unusual; all web publishers are attempting to deliver more targeted
advertising. But not all publishers can combine as much information as
Google can.
In tandem with the impending changes, Google has taken the opportunity to
unify some 60 separate privacy policies into one simpler document.
The company has also been up front about the coming changes and for the
past few weeks has posted notices on its websites and emailed its
users *explaining
the changes http://www.google.com/policies/*.
However, it’s fair to assume that many users have been oblivious to the new
policies either because they may be more relaxed about privacy on the
internet or because they haven’t drilled down into the detail.
Despite the advance warning, not everyone is comfortable about the
impending changes. A *letter

* to Google’s CEO Larry Page by a group of US state attorneys-general
earlier this month characterised the move as an invasion of consumer
privacy and criticised the company for failing to provide a proper ability
to opt out.
The US-based Electronic Frontier Foundation *points
out*https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2012/02/how-remove-your-google-search-history-googles-new-privacy-policy-takes-effect
that
disabling Web History in your Google account will not prevent Google from
gathering and storing this information. But it does mean the information
will be partially anonymised after 18 months and that Google will abstain
from using it for certain purposes.
Many people are comfortable with a lowering of the privacy bar that has
come about in recent years as a result of the advent social networking
sites such as MySpace and then Facebook.
However, if you’re not one of those, here’s how you can quarantine your
Google Search History from the new data aggregation process.

   - Go to the *Google History page https://www.google.com/history/* and
   sign in.

   - If your Web History has been activated, you should see a button which
says: “Remove All Web History”. Then click “Okay” to confirm.

   - (If you only see: Turn Web History On - then you don't need to do
   anything.)

   - When this is done you will see a “Resume” button, which you can click
if at any time in the future you change your mind.

[Bug 18574] Re: /etc/environment lacks man page.

2011-01-23 Thread Tamlin
I've done a little reading and it appears /etc/environment is indeed a
configuration file for Linux-PAM
man PAM(PAM must be in capitals pam is something else)

Also had a look at Linux-PAM System Administrators Guide
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/libs/pam/Linux-PAM-html/sag-pam_env.html
which states that pam_env.so passes the lines in /etc/environment

So when is the pam_env.so loaded?

PAM configuration is in /etc/pam.d/ or /etc/pam.conf (the latter is ignored if
the former is present) My Ubuntu system (10.4 upgraded from 6.4) uses
/etc/pam.d/
Of the files in this directory atd, cron, gdm, gdm-autologin, login su
require pam_env.so so, going by the names of these config files, I'm guessing
that pam_env.so, which loads /etc/environment, is run when gdm is started and
at login, perhaps even when cron and atd are run?

I can confirm that /etc/environment is read and the variables set at
login and/or su login, but I don't have time right now to test cron or
atd, and don't know how to test gdm or gdm-autologin

Hope this helps answer the original question somewhat but I agree it
would be nice to know how to execute pam_env.so manually.

One limitation to /etc/environment though is that it is NOT a shell script - it
is a config file - and therefore putting the following doesn't work:
  scripts_path='/mnt/config/scripts'
  start_stop_scripts=$scripts_path/start-stop
  script_logs=$scripts_path/script_logs

this results in
  echo $script_logs
  $scripts_path/script_logs

rather than
  echo $script_logs
  /mnt/config/scripts/script_logs

For this reason I'll probably just put
  source /mnt/config/scripts/myenvar
at the end of /etc/bash.bashrc even though
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EnvironmentVariables says it's not
recommended. Then include all my custom global variables in
/mnt/config/scripts/myenvar

P.S. I can see why Debian has decided to separate out local variables
from /etc/environment as it's not very intuitive to set environment
variables through an authentication system. I hope the trend continues
and we'll eventually get a standard set of configuration files that all
(or at least all compliant) programs reference. :-)

[Bug 603941] [NEW] Evolution Freezes / Crashes Randomly

2010-07-10 Thread Tamlin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This may be a duplicate of bug #294592
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/294592 but I don't know any other way to
submit the extra debug information

I started Evolution with the command evolution
--debug=~/Desktop/evolution_debug.txt --disable-eplugin and Evolution started
but was frozen. ie it would not respond to mouse clicks or key presses.
I killed it by pressing CTRL-C in the terminal from which I had started it.
I started Evolution again with the same command and this time it worked as
expected for a few minutes until I happened to click the checkbox (to hide) one
of my Google Calendars. When I did so Evolution Crashed.
The Terminal Output is attached.

I started Evolution a third time to submit a bug report using Submit Bug
Report from the Help Menu.
When I tried to submit this bug an unnamed messagebox appeared with the text
Unable to create the bug report: Product or component not specified. Bug
Buddy then closed.

[Bug 475800] Re: Tray icon does not appear on startup in Karmic

2010-07-07 Thread Tamlin
A workaround, for anyone who like me doesn't know how to implement a
patch to their system, is the following:

This might not work on all systems but on my Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 all I
need to do is killall scim-panel-gtk and it's automatically restarted
with the tray icon. There's a similar bug in both tomboy and gtg.

Here's the full workaround on my system:
Past the following 4 lines into a file (eg with gedit) and save it as
scim_panel_reload.sh
 #! /usr/bin/bash
 while (! ps -C notification-area-applet); do echo -n .; done; echo # Wait
for the notification area to load
sleep 10 # Wait another 10 seconds (You may need
to adjust this depending on your system)
killall scim-panel-gtk # Kill scim-panel-gtk. It will be
automatically reloaded

Click: System-Preferences-Startup Applications
Click: Add
Enter the following info:
  Name: SCIM PANEL RELOAD
  Command: /path/to/scim_panel_reload.sh
  Comment: Workaround for Bug #475800
Click: Add

scim-panel-gtk should then be reloaded each time you login.

P.S. I have no idea why the sleep 10 has to be in there after the
notification-area-applet has loaded, but without it scim-panel-gtk is
still loaded too early for it's icon to appear in the tray.

Hope the patch gets incorporated into the next .deb release.

[Bug 61786] Re: 'Create folder in here' context menu option for nautilus

2009-10-26 Thread Tamlin
This has been annoying me for years too and It's such a simple thing to
fix, I know it's simple because I've found a workaround:

1. Create a script that does what you want (any scripting language can be used:
shell, perl, python, etc, For creating a folder I recommend bash.)
2. Be sure the script is executable and place it in ~/.gnome2/nautilus-scripts

You should now see an additional item Scriptsin the right-click
context menu with the script you just made listed. If you don't, restart
nautilus with :~$ killall nautilus

Here is the script I wrote to create a new folder in whatever folder I
right-clicked on.

#!/bin/bash
mkdir $1/New_Folder

That's it!
Those two little lines.
The $1 variable is the address (path/filename) of the item clicked on.

LIMITATIONS/IMPROVEMENTS
This script does not allow you to enter a name for the new folder (you have to
rename it yourself) and only works when you right-click on a folder not a file.

Perhaps someone can improve this script or the developers can add this simple
feature to the context menu, it would greatly improve nautilus' usability.
Tabbed browsing is nice, but this was more important.
Cheers

Re: [Bug 134671] Re: cups-pdf do not overwrite existing pdf

2009-09-07 Thread Tamlin
I agree,

Unless there is a problem with editing the config file, ie. editing it
doesn't allow you to set the behaviour you want, then I think this bug
can be closed.

I have had cups-pdf overwriting files with the same name, adding a
unique job number to the names, and failing silently when the name
already exists.

If this is a debate about what the default settings should be then I
think it's gone on long enough and people need to either accept the
project maintainer's decision (I'm assuming Martin is one of them) or
create a folk of the project if your that passionate about it.

The only thing I'd suggest is it might be a good idea if anyone has the
time to summarise the information in this bug as it's REALLY useful
when trying to get cups-pdf to work how you want it to.

[Bug 161073] Re: associating pdf files to KPDF results in a broken association

2009-01-29 Thread Tamlin
I had the same problem.

Mine started when I did Open With - kpdf
(Sorry can't remember why I did that, it was working fine before)

Anyway I couldn't follow Drew's description after If we go back to the
file associations list via Konqueror (mentioned earlier) we can see KPDF
listed but if we hit Edit things look broken.

When I hit Edit I get a properties box similar to this one - see
attachment 1

This came up for kpdf before I installed and manually added an
association for acroread, but now if I hit Edit for kpdf I get this
box - see attachment 2

I could not get kpdf to work no matter how I tried to edit the command in the
properties box, Neither could I get it to work running from a command line
:~$ kpdf /home/jesse/PDF/Invoice-Profesional.pdf
kpdf: WARNING: Unknown mimetype 'application/x-kdeuser1'.

This mimetype x-kdeuser1 might be the problem. I removed the
association to it but this error still came up. Perhaps it was still
lingering somewhere beyond File Associations config utility. ??

Anyway, I installed acroread and made an association to it (NOT through
Open With - I the remember checkbox was greyed out) I made the
association with the config utility. Acroread worked so I could at least
view my files. I then thought I might as well add kpdf to the
association and put it after acroread in preference. I did this (again
using the config utility) and right clicked on a pdf file Open With
xpdf (the second choice due to having added it with the config utility)
Low and behold the xpdf worked!!

Then I changed the order of preference (with the config utility) so that xpdf
was before acroread and double clicked on a pdf file.
Xpdf gave me a little error window saying - Could not find mime type -
application/octet-stream. see attachment3 and the file was opened in acroread!
NOTE on attachment3: I didn't take a screen shot of this when xpdf threw it up
so the screen shot is of when dolphin did it. see below

xpdf was also no longer available on the open with menu. Even after I removed
the association and put it back again.
I thought I would try to restart dolphin and see if that helped. When starting
dolphin I got three could not find mime type messages (attachment3) and then
another one when I first clicked on a pdf file. I'm guessing this is due to
dolphin's preview function and was triggered not by the 'click' but by my mouse
moving over the files.

Remarkably, after clicking OK on the error messages. Dolphin is working fine,
except that kpdf is still not in the Open With menu.
(Just In case there is some confusion I'm talking about the Open With menu
not the Open With - Other... list)

OK Hope this helps someone. I can't spend any more time on it now. I
have to do my tax return or they will fine me. ;-)

[Bug 316713] [NEW] Computer will not start when two USB drives are connected

2009-01-13 Thread Tamlin
Public bug reported:

This bug is possibly similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/300981

I have Kubuntu 8.04 installed on a zareason.com (Asus Bare bones) laptop.
Grub version is 0.97-29ubuntu21.1

I have only kubuntu installed on a single HDD

Today I turned on my laptop and grub? did not start. It was as if I had
no hard drive connected. The screen showed the little Asus logo in the
bottom right corner but this usually disappears within a couple of
seconds, this time it remained and nothing else happened. I ejected the
DVD that was in the drive (Batman: The Dark Knight; Special Features)
and rebooted (had to turn off my laptop manually by holding down the
power button as ctrl-alt-del did not work.) Same Thing happened.

I inserted a Live CD and could hear it spinning up to speed, but nothing
else happened. I rebooted again, but the live CD did not boot either.

It occurred to me that I had two external USB drives connected, neither of them
bootable.
I disconnected them and restarted again. My computer booted!

Without the USB drives my computer boots normally either from the HDD or
the live CD. The weird thing is that if only one of the USB drives are
connected my laptop will boot fine, but if both are connected it will
not. This was repeatable.

**Additional Details:**
My USB drives are an iAudio G3 2GB mp3 player and an ExcelStore GStor Wave
160GB Portabe HDD Serial/Number: BF16LH*

My laptop has a total of four USB ports all of which were full when it would
not boot.
1 2 were occupied by the ExcelStore HDD which requires two USB drives (one
for additional power)
3 had the iAudio plugged into it
and 4 had the Mouse.
I have not tested tested whether removing the mouse makes any difference.

I have Kubuntu installed on a single HDD with the following partitions:
