[Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag or freezes on Nvidia desktops with X11 after logging "MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events handled properly?"

2024-05-13 Thread Tanmoy Dasgupta
Here is a temporary solution that I am using in a few Ubuntu 22.04
installations that I currently manage.

1) Open a TTY (Ctrl + Alt + F3)

2) Remove mutter-common: sudo apt remove mutter-common gir1.2-mutter-10
libmutter-10-0

This will remove a lot of other important packages. So basically you
will end up with a non-functional desktop. But TTY will thankfully still
work.

3) Add the test-fix ppa (if you haven't already): sudo add-apt-
repository ppa:vanvugt/mutter

4) Install specific versions of the affected packages:
sudo apt install --allow-downgrades gir1.2-mutter-10=42.9-0ubuntu7vv1
mutter-common=42.9-0ubuntu7vv1 libmutter-10-0=42.9-0ubuntu7vv1

5) Pin these packages:
sudo apt-mark hold mutter gir1.2-mutter-10 libmutter-10-0 libmutter-10-dev
libmutter-test-10 mutter-10-tests mutter-common

6) Then install all the packages that went missing:
sudo apt install ubuntu-desktop^

7) Update packages and then reboot:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

Let me know if this works. Thanks!

[Bug 519372] Re: Regression: keyboard layout indicator cannot be hidden

2010-05-13 Thread Tanmoy
So I don't understand - this says "fix released" on May 5th, but I am
using gnome-settings-daemon - 2.30.1-0ubuntu1, so why do I still have
this problem? I had to use "gconftool-2 -s
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/general/disable_indicator -t bool
true" to get this to work.

Any ideas?

things work fine, though.

[Bug 493892] Re: Suspend/Hibernate failure after update to kernel 2.6.31.16

2009-12-09 Thread Tanmoy
Er, it is a script I had written and put myself, but had forgotten
about. In my case I discovered the problem by opening the power manager
logs in /var/log/pm-suspend.log and looking through it to find errors. I
found that a script I had placed in /etc/pm/sleep.d was inhibiting
suspend. This problem therefore had nothing to do with my kernel.

Hi,
I discovered that I had a rogue script in /etc/pm/sleep.d that was causing an
inhibit on the suspend. I've removed the script and everything is back to

[Bug 493892] [NEW] Suspend/Hibernate failure after update to kernel 2.6.31.16

2009-12-07 Thread Tanmoy
Public bug reported:

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) on my Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop and
everything was hunky-dory until I updated my kernel from 2.6.31.15 to
2.6.31.16. That seems to have broken suspend (and hibernate, though I
don't use that feature). Now when I click suspend from the menu, the
screen blanks and lock (but the backlight does not go off). The computer
does not power down and moving the mouse instantly displays the unlock
screen dialog box. Any help in tracing the bug to root would be
appreciated!

[Bug 485802] [NEW] Amarok: "Time remaining" and "time elapsed" tooltips are reversed

2009-11-20 Thread Tanmoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amarok

This is very minor.

On the left of the slider bar displaying the track playing in Amarok,
there is a time counter counting down the time remaining and on the
right there is a time counter counting up the time elapsed. If I place
my cursor over the timer counting down the tooltip says "the amount of
time elapsed in current song" and the other one says "the amount of time
remaining in current song". This is, of course, the wrong way around.

What can I say. Nothing short of perfection works.

[Bug 483279] [NEW] Software Center does not start

2009-11-15 Thread Tanmoy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: software-center

My Ubuntu 9.10 Software Center v1.0.2 has never seen the light of day.

If I try to run it from the menu, "Starting Ubuntu Software Center"
appears for a few seconds on my taskbar, and then vanishes. Nothing
starts up.

Running software-center from the terminal gives me the error message:
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::length_error'
  what():  basic_string::assign
Aborted

How can I provide more information?
