[Bug 455852] Re: Flash hangs on any cbc.ca/video site
To reiterate one last time: This is *NOT* a flash problem in any sense. The Flash player works fine once the parameters are passed to it. This is a problem of the surrounding programming that passes the parameters. Most specifically, the programming that has to do with whether you are geographically located in Canada (I think). This is why the bypass I wrote works - it passes the one changing parameter (clip ID) without any other garbage. Initially, I thought the problem had to do with the geolocation code being java-based, but Reinhard Fehling's report of a system with no Java where it works makes that very unlikely. The new most likely candidate is poorly coded javascript. tarek : ) -- Flash hangs on any cbc.ca/video site https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/455852 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 455852] Re: Flash hangs on any cbc.ca/video site
Actually, it's pretty clear that it's not a flash problem, or otherwise the fix wouldn't work. This is a problem in the wrapping html / javascript / java, which is why it would be nice to isolate the issue. More specifically, I think the problem code has to do with geolocating the host, since the fix also disregards those locks. However, on that note, Reinhard: which version of flash runs on jolicloud? From the website I can't tell. I think it's obvious that CBC needs to be involved to make a definitive (and probably quite easy on their part) fix. Until then, there's nothing wrong with figuring out why one linux distro works when others don't. tarek : ) -- Flash hangs on any cbc.ca/video site https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/455852 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 560906] Re: nc6400 frequently crashes due to multiple power-related issues
** Description changed: I believe this is a bit of a meta bug, and I apologize for that aspect. However, I want to collect the issues and resolutions I've found that make the HP NC6400 laptop bearable with Lucid. I had the same issues with Karmic, but didn't pursue them too seriously. 1. First issue is that the hard drive has the following issue: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14543 The workaround is automatically running at boot the following script: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=25357 2. Since I fixed that, I noticed another problem that I cannot identify that is triggered by plugging / unplugging the laptop's AC Power. As a result, I have disabled the following files by commenting out the following contents of /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/ powersave-policy-hda-powerdown powersave-policy-dirty-writeback anacron powersave-policy-sata-link-power I had remarked when monitoring the syslog from other computers that these were executed consistently before crashes. It's not every time they execute (or that AC is plugged / unplugged) that there is a crash.. But they are always there before a crash. 3. Related to the ATI video card, some hangs appear related to KMS. [Bug 391044] Re: grub2 update adds --no-floppy to "search " lines
I'm not sure why this bug was marked as invalid. It is reported and confirmed by several people. It is also an issue that exists in the new grub2 that did not exist previously. I have installed many versions of ubuntu on many, many different computers, and had never previously seen a boot fail with a fresh install like this. Further, grub-install /dev/sda and dpkg-reconfigure do not work for everybody. Even if they did, this should not be expected for users to simply boot their systems (which will not boot anyway for the first time except in skilled hands). tarek : ) ** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Confirmed ** Summary changed: - grub2 update adds --no-floppy to "search " lines + Fresh karmic install does not boot due to grub2 adding --no-floppy to "search " lines -- Fresh karmic install does not boot due to grub2 adding --no-floppy to "search " lines https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/391044 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The error appears to be in the java code that's wrapped around the player and the way that it's passing (or not passing) parameters to the player.
