[Bug 1257338] Re: [Acer Aspire E1-572] Freezes at shutdown screen when attempting to shutdown

2014-01-01 Thread Tarpoon
Trying to do as asked I get the following messages:

First try: (as I could not test rc4 I tried to mark rc3 as bad and rc5 as good)
Zweigspitze (HEAD) ist jetzt bei 413541d... Linux 3.13-rc5
~/Downloads/kernelbisect/linux$ git bisect start
~/Downloads/kernelbisect/linux$ git bisect bad v3.13-rc3
~/Downloads/kernelbisect/linux$ git bisect good v3.13-rc5
Some good revs are not ancestor of the bad rev.
git bisect cannot work properly in this case.
Maybe you mistake good and bad revs?

Second try:
~/Downloads/kernelbisect/linux$ git bisect start
Zweigspitze (HEAD) ist jetzt bei 413541d... Linux 3.13-rc5
~/Downloads/kernelbisect/linux$ git bisect bad v3.13-rc4
~/Downloads/kernelbisect/linux$ git bisect good v3.13-rc5
Some good revs are not ancestor of the bad rev.
git bisect cannot work properly in this case.
Maybe you mistake good and bad revs?

Trying to reverse the order of good and bad I get the same message.

I can confirm the bug being fixed in RC5. However I won't be able to do
that bisecting stuff within the next few weeks.

[Bug 1257338] Re: [Acer Aspire E1-572] Freezes at shutdown screen when attempting to shutdown

2013-12-19 Thread Tarpoon
Tried the command. Sadly it doesn't finish building, ending with the
following output:

  CC [M] drivers/net/wireless/rtlwifi/rtl8723ae/trx.o
  LD [M] drivers/net/wireless/rtlwifi/rtl8723ae/rtl8723ae.o
make[1]: *** [drivers] Fehler 2
make[1]: Verlasse Verzeichnis '/home/christian/Schreibtisch/linux-stable'
make: *** [debian/stamp/build/kernel] Fehler 2

Won't the rc4 become available within a few days?

[Bug 429370] Re: Eduroam randomly disconnects

2013-12-19 Thread Tarpoon
This affects me too, using Kubuntu 13.10 using both the 3.11.0-14-generic
kernel on my Acer Aspire E1-572.
There are times when I can stay connected for more than 20 minutes without
problem but most of the times I am dropped from eduroam within 1 - 5 minutes.
Android smartphone is connecting stable to the network, so I'm gonna resort to
using its wlan tethering feature.

Just reported the bug:
http://marc.info/?l=linux-acpim=138668019226185w=2 (redid the test with the
upstream rc3 kernel to make sure, it wasn't fixed already)

Sure, no problem.
Tried both with the upstream kernel.
Neither parameter had any effect on the shutting down problem.

[Bug 1245904] Re: Acer Aspire E1-572 doesn't shutdown properly

2013-12-03 Thread Tarpoon
Hi,

I am having the same issue and just tried out the latest daily from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ as boot from USB.
Sadly the problem persists.
Suspend to Ram, Suspend to Disk and Reboots work fine however.

Thanks for your reply.
Sadly using that kernel does not fix the bug. Added the tag as requested.

[Bug 692623] Re: filesystem damaged after reboot

2010-12-21 Thread Tarpoon
Here are photos of the output when the system tries to boot, scrolled up
as far as possible.

Like said before I will gladly provide you with any logs I can find, but
I currently cannot mount the harddrive so I have no idea how to get
them.

I started the notebook with a recovery console, went through the output
on the monitor and found this part which seems interesting.

[Bug 692623] [NEW] filesystem damaged after reboot

2010-12-20 Thread Tarpoon
Public bug reported:

This has happened 3 times to me so far.
2 times on the Samsung NC20 of my girlfriend, using Ubuntu 10.10 / Windows XP
parallel installation.
1 time on my Dell inspiron mini 10 using standalone Ubuntu 10.10.

Both notebooks use ext4 as filesystem.

I can't reproduce it but it seems to happen after Ubuntu installs an update.
After doing whatever causes it and restarting the system ubuntu doesn't boot
anymore and no matter which kernel I choose in grub I end up in BusyBox.

This is what the monitor shows after trying to boot:

[... some error trace ...]
Killed
mount: mounting /dev on /root/dev failed: No such file or directory
mount: mounting /sys on /root/sys failed: No such file or directory
mount: mounting /proc on /root/proc failed: No such file or directory
Target filesystem doesn't have requested /sbin/init.
No init found. Try passing init= bootarg.

Starting the computer with an USB Stick and trying to mount the affected drive
results in endless waiting, but nothing happens even if I wait for hours.

Reboot really often and using a random combination of trying to mount /
unmounting / alt + s-abf + s / alt + s-abf + b / seems to fix the issue,
however in the first two cases some random system files were gone (like
the network manager applet image), which makes it necessary to reinstall
ubuntu completely.

I am leaving the inspiron mini in the described state, if someone tells
me how to do it I will gladly provide any error traces or system logs
you need, assuming there is a way to write them into a text file on an
usb stick.
