Re: [Bug 961591] Re: Windows border graphics corrupted

2012-04-28 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
yeah, that seems pretty similar. I think the bug was originated in
libmutter. But that was fixed a while ago. cinnamon is built on top of
gnome3, so i don't know why it would work differently. Oh, Linux Mint is
based on Debian, not Ubuntu now, right? So maybe the bug fix hasn't been
sent upstream.

[Bug 961591] [NEW] Windows border graphics corrupted

2012-03-21 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
Public bug reported:

Recent updates in precise have rendered the Windows borders to no longer
render properly. The buttons usually seem to work, but the actual border
graphics themselves are usually black with pixelated edges or random
colored lines depending on what window theme is being used.

[Bug 963526] [NEW] gnome-shell crashing from fullscreen

2012-03-23 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
Public bug reported:

Gnome-shell seems to be quite unstable recently. It seems one of the things
that started occuring the most the last few days is spontaneous crashes from
wine and guake, both programs I mostly use in fullscreen. When using guake, it
gnome occasionally becomes unresponsive to F12 (the un-hide button). And if I
press F12 several times quickly, Gnome-shell just spontaneously quits without
leaving any error or message in dmesg. When guake started getting flaky again,
I find this error repeating constantly in .xsession-errors:
Window manager warning: Log level 16: STACK_OP_LOWER_BELOW: window 0x2e8
not in stack
Window manager warning: Log level 16: STACK_OP_LOWER_BELOW: sibling window
0x2e8 not in stack

Also, when I tried running a fullscreen game using Wine, gnome-shell
spontaneously closed. Once again, dmesg didn't show any segfaults, but I
managed to pull an error from .xsession-errors that might show a clue to what's
going on:
Window manager warning: Log level 16: STACK_OP_LOWER_BELOW: window 0x368
not in stack
Window manager warning: Log level 16: STACK_OP_LOWER_BELOW: sibling window
0x368 not in stack
Window manager warning: Treating resize request of legacy application 0x4a1
() as a fullscreen request

[Bug 913809] Re: smbd crashed with SIGABRT in rep_strlcpy()

2012-08-06 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
Okay, I finally took the time to get a backtrace. It seems that it only
takes a few minutes before smbd crashes, I wonder how many tmes it
crahes before apport catches.

Btw, I'm running the Quantal Alpha, and smbd crashes the same as it did
in Precise.

[Bug 1039858] [NEW] Unable to connect to internet using URL address

2012-08-21 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
Public bug reported:

I'm currently unable to do anything online with Quantal after I restarted my
computer, I'm unable to resolve DNS. I know I have internet because I had the
IP address for OpenDNS's emergency page, and it worked fine. Unforutunately,
that's the only IP address webpage I know. So, I'm unable to connect to
anywhere on the internet or even update my computer. I tried disabling dnsmasq
by commenting out dns=dnsmasq in NetworkManager.conf, but it doesn't seem to be
working. I know there is nothing wrong with my internet because I'm able to use
the internet from same router using my ChromeOS Cr-48, which is what I'm using
to submit this bug.
This is a Critical bug, and I need a fix immediately, or I will be unable to do
most of the things I use my desktop computer for.

I can confirm that downgrading to 0.9.6.0-0ubuntu3 and uncommenting
dns=dnsmasq works. This is definately a regression in the current
NetworkManager.

[Bug 963526] Re: gnome-shell crashing from fullscreen

2012-03-24 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
Okay, I rebuilt all the mutter packages using the patch, it seems that
gnome-shell no longer mysteriously crashes now. Guake still seems to
sometimes not respond to F12, but at least it isn't causing the desktop
to crash now.

Re: [Bug 761402] Re: Vdpau video stutters until restarting Compiz

2011-11-09 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
Yes, I've been using Oneiric since it was in Beta, and it still had some of
these issues. When I was using Unity + Compiz, I would still get some of
the stuttering and tearing. But now that I've switched to Gnome-Shell +
Mutter, things have been working great. So I think the bugs lie with
Compiz, not the driver.

[Bug 651272] [NEW] zeitgeist hasn't tracked data in 2 months

2010-09-29 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: zeitgeist

I installed zeitgeist a while ago, but ever since, I just kinda ignored
it. For a while gnome-activity-journal wouldn't work, but I fixed that
about a month ago. Today, I opened it again today and it seems no data
has been logged by zeitgeist in over two months. What the heck is going
on. I've tried reinstalling the zeitgest packages, but it doesn't seem
to do anything.

[Bug 673013] [NEW] Compaq won't resume from Suspend

2010-11-09 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
Public bug reported:

I recently got an old Compaq my mom used to own. I was refurbished when
she got it and when I got It I replaced all the ide cables, hard drives,
ram, and added a radeon 9600 pro agp card (because the onboard via was
horrible). The computer seems to go into suspend just fine, it's when it
tries to resume that it fumbles. All the fans rev up, but the no other
hardware seems to come back to life. Even the front light continues to
blink, signalling that it's still in suspend.

I know that this computer didn't suspend in Linux before, as I it dual-
boot windows and ubuntu when my mom had it, and it didn't suspend
properly then, but I had chocked it up to the crappy via openchrome
drivers then.

Now that this computer is mine, I'd like it to suspend properly. Can
someone help debug this and find out exactly why it doesn't resume?

2010-10-06 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
Okay, I renamed .config/transimssion, and now transmission starts up fast.
But the moment I start some torrents and pause them. The cpu jumps up to
around 8-15%, even when they aren't running. So I don't think any of my
settings have anything to do with this.

2010-10-07 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
Actually, I was using top from the commandline.
And I've been using Maverick since Alpha 1. Transmission only started doing
this in the last month or so.

Re: [Bug 655024] Re: Using higher cpu usage

2010-10-08 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
@Kilmonda
No, I'm using an ATI Radeon 9600 using the Xorg r300 drivers.

@RedSingularity
I did like you asked, I purged every transmission package I had installed,
and reinstalled transmission-gtk. I still get the the slow down. It seems
for every paused torrent I have added to the list, the cpu increases another
1%. The interface is really laggy, so I'm thinking this might be a gui/gtk
issue.

Re: [Bug 655024] Re: Using higher cpu usage

2010-10-08 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
1) There wasn't any terminal output when starting transmission, but when
closing it I got:
(transmission:19808): GLib-GObject-WARNING **:
/build/buildd/glib2.0-2.26.0/gobject/gsignal.c:2392: instance `0x9192858'
has no handler with id `725`

2) I had already had it limited to 10 KB/s, and turning it 50 didn't change
anything, neither did turning off the limiter.

I've figured out the the number of torrents affects the cpu usage. When I
only have 2 torrents queued up, regardless of running or not. Transmission
uses 4-8%, and another 1-2% is added for every torrent that is added to
list. For some reason, paused torrents are using cpu resources.

[Bug 655024] Re: Using higher cpu usage

2010-10-09 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
Okay, I captured it while the cpu was spiking. It's lowest is about 4%.
It had 2 torrents queued up, both of them were inactive.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I'm using an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
using the Xorg r300 drivers, default to Maverick. Other programs don't
seem to be as laggy as Transmission. It's like the program itself needs
a second before it will register any clicks to it.

I've started using renice on it so that everything will work more
smoothly while I'm downloading torrents, but I'm going to start looking
for other clients to use soon if this keeps up.

[Bug 611851] Re: [needs-packaging] Please package mplayer2 with multithreading support (ffmpeg-mt)

2011-03-09 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
The mplayer in my CoreAVC-for-Ubuntu ppa (ppa:ripps818/coreavc) is
actually mplayer2. I've been using it since before it became an official
fork. I just haven't renamed the package and it's version yet. I'm still
considering the best method to transition people already using the ppa
to the fork's new name and version without interfering with the current
installation/upgrade model in place.

2011-01-14 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected natty running-unity

** Description changed:

[Bug 655024] [NEW] Using higher cpu usage

2010-10-05 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: transmission

At some point in the last month, Transmission starting using much more
cpu than it used to. It now uses about 15-25% cpu, even when it's not
doing anything. Also, the interface seems to have some pretty serious
lag when scrolling. I don't have these problems with other programs, and
the cpu usage is enough to slow some of my more cpu intensive
operations, such as watching HD videos. What could be causing the this
cpu increase?

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 761402] [NEW] Vdpau video stutters until restarting Compiz

2011-04-14 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
Public bug reported:

When watching video using mplayer2+vdpau, the video often times has stutters or
appears jumpy or slow. I use compiz to redirect fullscreen because the nvidia
drivers have problems with vdpau tearing. However, it often times causes the
video to appear this way. I discovered the by either restart compiz with
`compiz --replace` sometimes fixes the issue (at least temporarily or until
reboot). If that doesn't work, than enabling/disabling the 'Copy to Texture'
plugin for compiz. Although, I think this only works because it causes to
compiz to restart.
When I was using Maverick, I didn't have nearly this much trouble.

[Bug 600178] Re: Screen tearing when dragging window, in videos and other large screen redraws (on nVidia GPU)

2011-04-17 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
In Natty, I get close to no tearing with VDPAU on my Nvidia GT240 by
setting ccsm to enable "unredirect fullscreen", enable "vsync", and
forcing compiz's refresh rate to 120. But, it's still hit or miss
sometimes. Vdpau will still sometimes either be slow, or have searious
tearing. I found that by restarting compiz a few times and
enabling/disabling "copy to texture" plugin can temporarily fix the
video tearing. It's not consistent, and I have no idea why it even works
when it does. When it does work, it eliminates 90% of the tearing
issues, but they still sometimes occur on very rapid screen
movement/changes.

[Bug 736826] Re: Launcher fails to hide/unhide when switching between workspaces using keyboard shortcuts

2011-04-07 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
I think I'm experiencing this bug. Situations described in the bug report
happen to me. Also, the panel doesn't resume autohiding when I switch between
my widget layer and back.
When I switch to widget layer to use my embedded terminal, the panel
occasionally returns. And then when I cancel widget mode, the panel doesn't
resume hiding, even when I have a window maximized.

I'm using the latest updates today, and unity is still not autohiding
properly.

[Bug 619939] [NEW] Alt/Meta escape keys no longer work

2010-08-18 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
Public bug reported:

The latest version of VTE in Maverick broke alt/meta escape keys. The
terminal no longer recongnizes when left alt is being held down and
right alt only allows for the file menus to be called up. The actual
terminal just passes whatever combo key was pressed with the alt combo.

As far as I can tell, nothing is wrong with the keyboard or alt, because
the alt key still works in all other programs, such as compiz and
openoffice.

The reason I believe this a flaw in VTE, is because it only affects
libvte based terminals, such as: gnome-terminal, terminator, and
xfce4-terminal. Xterm and Aterm still work with alt/meta.

[Bug 253308] Re: multimedia buttons don't work

2010-07-18 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
I believe that the mmkeys plugin is included with the gmpc-plugins
0.20.0 package in Maverick. So I'm marking this bug as Fix Released.

[Bug 439805] Re: webkit epiphany-extensions autoscroll incomplete

2010-07-18 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
The epiphany-extensions package in Ubuntu Maverick appears to have a
working AutoScroll extension, so I'm marking this bug as Fix Released.

[Bug 224327] Re: Gimmie applet has no icons and no color

2010-07-18 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
This will probably never get fixed. The project is dead and gimmie is no
longer packaged anymore. Marking as Invalid.

[Bug 616216] [NEW] No Xv video with Xserver 1.9

2010-08-11 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: smplayer

Since the upgrade to xserver 1.9 in Maverick, smplayer has been unable
to play any video using Xv as the Video output. The file still plays and
I can hear the audio, but the section of the player that should have the
video is transparent, and I can see the desktop beneath the window. The
transparency is even in effect when in fullscreen.

Also, since gnome-mplayer is unusable due to a unfixed bug I reported
over a month ago (#604902), I am left without a decent gui for mplayer.
I am currently running mplayer from the commandline instead, but I am
not happy about being forced to use it in such a manner.

Can someone please fix one of these players soon?

[Bug 616216] Re: No Xv video with Xserver 1.9

2010-08-12 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
It appears this bug comes and goes. Right now, Xv appears to be working
again. So this might be a hardware or driver issue.

[Bug 616781] [NEW] gm-notify has high cpu usage

2010-08-12 Thread Taylor "Ripps" LeMasurier-Wren
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gm-notify

Recently in Maverick, gm-notify has started having worringly high cpu
usage, around 70-85%. This is unacceptably high. I've been using this
version for around a month and it's never behaved like this. Something
must have changed recently in the large number of updates in Maverick
recently.
