[Bug 364091] Re: xrandr error with delmode

2024-04-12 Thread Teemu Leisti
I'm also experiencing this bug. OS: Linux Mint 21.3 Xfce.

I have an external monitor whose native resolution is 5120×1440 px. I
earlier used it in a reduced resolution of 3840×1080 px, before figuring
out how to get the native resolution. The command xrandr still lists the
3840×1080 mode I added earlier. I'd like to get rid of it, because (1) I
don't need it anymore, and (2) for some reason, when I start up my
computer, the external monitor's resolution defaults to it, and I'm
thinking getting rid of the resolution might resolve the problem.

Anyway, here are the outputs of some Bash commands I gave. "..." means
elided rows.

# xrandr -v

Server reports RandR version 1.6

I have made no changes to file /etc/X11/xorg.conf; in fact, that file
doesn't exist on my computer, but there is an empty directory
/etc/X11/xorg.con.d.

I'm attaching the output of the command "lspci -vvnn", and the contents
of files "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" and "/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old".

[Bug 798414] Re: update-initramfs should produce a more helpful error when there isn't enough free space

2016-11-29 Thread Teemu Leisti
I was again purging old kernels via the Synaptic package manager
manually when I ran into this bug. As others have remarked above, the
root cause of having to purge kernels manually when /boot runs out of
space is pretty bad; an operating system that purports to be, and mostly
is, easy-to-use, should be able to handle that situation far better, by
purging old kernels automatically, or at most after one confirmation
dialog.

Every time I open graphical Emacs in Xubuntu 16.04 these warnings are

would take five minutes to fix at most.

[Bug 1183692] Re: Not enough disk space for kernel security update on /boot

2015-08-11 Thread Teemu Leisti
Good points above. So, in addition to the update-manager offering to
remove earlier kernel versions to free up space when necessary, the
standard installation option should make the boot partition bigger.

[Bug 1183692] Re: Not enough disk space for kernel security update on /boot

2015-06-18 Thread Teemu Leisti
Yep, it affects me too, at least a couple of times a year. I'm using
home folder encryption only, not full disk encryption. When installing
Xubuntu, home-folder encryption is given as an option, so this bug will
affect those ordinary users who chose that option, not just us nerds.
So, I also think that when the insufficient space on /boot dialog is
shown, there should be an option for the user to have old kernel
versions removed automatically, because it's too difficult for the
ordinary user to remove them using via the command line.

[Bug 1212337] Re: accounts-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in dbus_connection_send()

2013-09-08 Thread Teemu Leisti
I also just booted with the new kernel version, 3.2.0-53, and got the
same crash again -- though in my case, the title of the error is still
accounts-daemon crashed with sigsegv in dbus_connection_unref(), not
..._send().

[Bug 1212337] Re: accounts-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in dbus_connection_send()

2013-09-07 Thread Teemu Leisti
I have also occasionally gotten accounts-daemon-related crashes right
after login, for several months now, on two machines that both run
Xubuntu 12.04, and which I've kept up-to-date by always upgrading
packages when prompted by the system.

Today, I started to look more closely into this, and googling for the
Title of the crash brought me here (though in my case, the title is
accounts-daemon crashed with sigsegv in dbus_connection_unref(), not
..._send(). The internal error dialog gives this information (I'm
not reporting all fields, because you can't copy-paste from error
dialog, which, by the way, is a usability problem -- I've marked the
contents of those fields as ...):

[Bug 10910]

2012-03-27 Thread Teemu Leisti
I just did a new installation of Xubuntu 11.10, and then upgraded all
the packages. The resulting Firefox version is 11.0.

I changed the contents of my /etc/defaults/locale file to

LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
LC_TIME=en_DK.UTF-8

then logged out and back in again. Now, when I print a page from
Firefox, A4 is the paper size used, which is correct, but when I do a
print-to-file, the default paper size is still letter. So this bug has
not yet been completely fixed.

By the way, it's coming up on the bug's tenth birthday. Should we get
together to buy something nice for it, what do you say?
