[Bug 1674206] Re: Not the right output of the command vnstati when working with locale ru_RU.UTF-8

2017-03-27 Thread Teemu Toivola
As far as I know, this problem is caused by the internal fonts of libgd
used by vnstati not supporting UTF-8.

[Bug 1238194] Re: keyboard doesn't work to enter password with encrypted partitions ubuntu 13.10 saucy

2015-12-18 Thread Teemu Toivola
I encountered this issue while using a "Lenovo ThinkPad Compact USB"
keyboard with 3.19.0-33-generic. For this keyboard and most likely many
recent Lenovo Thinkpads the correct module that needs to be added to
/etc/initramfs-tools/modules is "hid-lenovo". Executing "update-
initramfs -u -k all" after the addition will update the initramfs of all
installed kernels, not only the currently used one. Some older kernels
(at least 3.13.0-nn-generic) may require "hid-lenovo-tpkbd" instead as
the module appear to have been renamed at some point.

[Bug 1033698] [NEW] 0010-set-language.patch forces UTF-8 into use in ~/.pam_environment

2012-08-06 Thread Teemu Toivola
Public bug reported:

The modification done by 0010-set-language.patch (see LP: #866062) cause
UTF-8 to be forced in ~/.pam_environment even if something else has been
defined in /etc/default/locale.

Example:
/etc/default/locale contains:
LANG=en_US

After login from lightdm ~/.pam_environment contains:
LANG=en_US.UTF-8

and that result in UTF-8 being forced to use for example in terminals.

This problem can be traced to 0010-set-language.patch that introduces
the function user_locale_utf8_fix that for some reason gets called
every time variables are handled. As a result, it's not possible to have
UTF-8 disabled.

As a very crude hack, I've modified the /usr/share/language-tools/save-
to-pam-env script to call sed and remove any UTF-8 string before the
exit line.

Version information:
Xubuntu 12.04
accountsservice:

[Bug 251164] Re: boot impossible due to missing initramfs failure hook / event driven initramfs

2012-07-18 Thread Teemu Toivola
Commenting here since bug #324997 has been marked as duplicate and the
behaviour appears to have changed since the original report. With Ubuntu
12.04, booting with a degraded raid (due to missing disk) causes the
boot process to stop at Begin: Waiting for encrypted source device...
There's a timeout of around 180 seconds after which a busybox
prompt becomes available. It's possible to continue from that prompt by
commanding mdadm --run /dev/mdX followed with ctrl-d. That causes
cryptsetup to find the device, prompt for a passphrase and continue the
boot procedure.

I noticed that this problem occurs only when a disk is missing from the
raid. Setting one disk as failed and then booting with all disks but
still in degraded state will result in some warnings during the boot
process but there will be no waiting for timeouts or busybox prompts.

Another suggestion I found in several places and ended up testing was to
replace the UUID in /etc/crypttab with the device itself (/dev/mdX).
That results in no timeout and cryptsetup asking for the passphrase but
it will not accept the correct passphrase as long as any disk from the
raid is missing. There's no busybox prompt available either resulting in
a system that can't boot.

[Bug 836739] Re: zero database error on install

2011-08-30 Thread Teemu Toivola
See
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports#How%20to%20request%20new%20packages

There aren't any configuration file changes between vnStat 1.10 and 1.11
so a backport should be trivial to do.

[Bug 836739] Re: zero database error on install

2011-08-29 Thread Teemu Toivola
This same issue was first reported in Debian bug #589454
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=589454) and fixed
upstream in vnStat 1.11 months ago:

1.11 / 1-Jun-11

 - Fix: Memory allocation was miscalculated when creating interface list from
/sys/class/net when /proc/net/dev wasn't available which in turn could
   crash the daemon
 - Fix: Daemon database cache could remain empty after a -HUP signal
 - Fix: Don't make temp directory in vnstat.cgi writable for everyone
 - Import GNU/kFreeBSD support from Debian
(#608963, patch by Mats Erik Andersson)
 - Remove usage of GNU only '-D' option for install for BSD in Makefile
 - The daemon now automatically creates databases for available interfaces
if no databases are found during startup

[Bug 523513] Re: Sync vnstat 1.10-0.1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2010-02-21 Thread Teemu Toivola

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: vnstat

  Rational for request:
- The current version in Lucid is over 2 years old and contains a long list of
bugs and limitations especially when used with interfaces that aren't always
online (3G modems, wlans...). See the upstream changelog [1] for a complete
list of correction since version 1.6.

- The package is currently in the Debian NEW queue [2][3]. I've tested
- that the package builds and works without errors in Lucid. Upgrading
- from the previous version has also been tested.
+ The current version in Lucid is over 2 years old and contains many bugs
+ and limitations that affect usability:

- [1] http://humdi.net/vnstat/CHANGES
- [2] http://ftp-master.debian.org/new/vnstat_1.10-0.1.html
- [3]
http://mentors.debian.net/cgi-bin/sponsor-pkglist?action=details;package=vnstat
+ - The /proc parser doesn't always track the correct interface, for example
eth10 will be used instead of eth1 if visible.
+ - The package is missing the configuration file
+ - The cron entry is getting executed too infrequently to track reliably 100
Mbit and faster interfaces.
+ - Interfaces that aren't always in use (such as 3G modems, wlan interfaces,
ppp interfaces) are likely to show bogus data from time to time.
+ - Database corruption possible in case of multiple updates at the same time.
+ - The cron entry is likely to keep the hdd of laptop users spinning even when
there's no network interface active.

+ The new version uses the same database structure and --dumpdb output as
+ version 1.6 so user made scripts using vnstat should not be affected by
+ the upgrade.
+
+ The new version from Debian unstable was tested to compile, install and
+ upgrade without errors in Lucid.

[Bug 410968] Re: vnstat does not list other interfaces if eth0 is never used

2009-08-18 Thread Teemu Toivola
You can change the default interface that gets used when parameter -i
isn't present from the configuration file /etc/vnstat.conf by changing
the Interface setting. However, it seems that 1.6-1 doesn't install
any configuration file although such existed in the original upstream
install script. That configuration file can be later created with sudo
vnstat --showconfig /etc/vnstat.conf.

The current upstream version (1.8) adds also the current and previous
months to the summary output compared to version 1.6.

[Bug 138243] Re: Traffic usage statistics wrong

If that problem is still there try first running vnstat with
--testkernel parameter. If that doesn't find any problems then the
output of 'vnstat -D -u' might give some clues. The current upstream
version (1.5) also contains fixes to several similar issues.
