Hi,

I am having the same issue on my Toshiba Tecra M5 laptop.  The output
from my kern.log when this happens is:

For me this appears to happen when my external monitor goes to standby mode.  I 
will test this on the laptop display.

[Bug 237467] Re: Kernel update install failure

Apologies, I have found this issue to be related to the /boot partition
to not have enough storage space.  I have freed up space and it is now
working correctly.

Public bug reported:

dpkg was failing with error.  I was also doing an update to the latest
nvidia-glx-new package.

Trying then to remove the package was also producing an error.

I am using Ubuntu 8.04 i386.
