[Bug 1176131] Re: Please add Acroread package to the Partner repository for Ubuntu Saucy and Trusty
Petar's comment does not work at all for me, on Ubuntu 13.10. After installing AdbeRdr9.5.5-1_i486linux_enu.bin I get the error error while loading shared libraries: libgdk_pixbuf_xlib-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory'. So install install libgtk2.0.0:i386. However... sudo apt-get install libgtk2.0-0:i386 Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies. libgtk2.0-0:i386 : Depends: libpangocairo-1.0-0:i386 (>= 1.28.3) but it is not going to be installed Depends: libpangoft2-1.0-0:i386 (>= 1.28.3) but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. Hence, I go ahead and try to install libpangocairo-1.0-0:i386, which leads to other dependency errors. Going through the chain of depencies, I eventually try to install libgraphite2-3:i386. However, then the following occurs (see below), likely showing that I I should not go ahead... so no acrobat for me. sudo apt-get install libgraphite2-3:i386 Reading package lists... [Bug 1250611] [NEW] shim-signed update unrecognized option
Public bug reported: I am having a macbook with ubuntu 12.04. Just did sudo-apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade; This installs an updated version of the package shim-signed. However, upon updating shim-signed, grub complains that it cannot recognize the option `--target=x86_64-efi'. Seems very related to a recent update on shim-signed that has been pushed recently, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1242417. [Bug 1035507] [NEW] xorg cannot find graphics card; also does not default to low graphics mode
Public bug reported: When booting ubuntu, once every while a dialog appears with the warning message 'the system is running in low graphics mode'. I haven't found the thing that triggers it, and the occurrence of this dialog is highly irregular. At other times it boots just fine. When pressing OK on this warning message (which is typically hard to do, as the mouse is not immediately apparent; I have to move the mouse all over the place before a classic Xorg cross-type mouse finally appears on this dialog), I get another menu with a number of options. I choose the option 'run in low graphics mode for just one session' and press OK. the screen then flashes a couple of times, before a dialog appears that says something like 'wait until the display manager resets'. I press the OK button of this dialog and I end up with no graphical interface at all, just a standard shell prompt asking for password and login. After logging in, inspection by ps ax | grep gdm shows that gdm is nonetheless running. Subsequently, when I kill gdm and do sudo gdm, I end up with a working, high resolution, display manager. Why couldn't this happen just directly upon booting? I have a video of the flashing behaviour when choosing for the 'low graphics mode for just one session'. The video is here: http://transgenerational.zoo.cam.ac.uk/CIMG1547.AVI. It will remain there for 2 weeks, ask me if you want to have the video afterwards. In my opinion, when I choose the option 'run in low graphics mode for just one session', I should get low graphics mode regardless of the graphics card. Which is obviously possible given that the warning message itself appears on the screen in a dialog. If I am not mistaken, even for nvidia cards it should be possible to run something in very low resolution without 3d acceleration by default. [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
Same here. My Dell XPS 1430 has the same issue: ever since the upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 it frequently freezes completely, no mouse, no keys, last bits of audio keep repeating. Note that I don't have an Ivy bridge processor, just an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P8700 @ 2.53GHz and GeForce 9400M G/integrated/SSE2 graphics card. The freeze often (but not always) happens when I use flash. I first thought it was some temperature-related issue, but after installing sensord I did not find any abnormal temperatures being logged. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
