Re: [Bug 272367] Re: [Intrepid] iwl4965 cannot connect

2009-06-18 Thread TheMemphisE
Sadly I no longer have that computer to run the tests on, but the
problem did "clear up". I think it may have been a hardware issue as
sometimes it would refuse to connect under Ubuntu, but would fix itself
upon booting into Vista and then subsequently rebooting into Ubuntu. Or
perhaps there was a bit of software there that just did not want to play
nice.

Subject: [Bug 272367] Re: [Intrepid] iwl4965 cannot connect

Hi TheMemphisE,

This bug was reported a while ago and hasn't had any recent updates.
Can you comment if this is still an issue with the most recent Jaunty
9.04 release which contains a 2.6.28 based kernel -
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download . If the issue remains please
run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and
attach updated debug information:

apport-collect linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic 272367

Also, if the issue remains in Jaunty I'd suggest trying to install
linux-backports-modules-jaunty which contains an updated compat-wireless
stack. Please let us know your results. Thanks.

[Bug 272368] Re: Ubuntu fails to display desktop enviornment.

2008-10-13 Thread TheMemphisE
** Summary changed:

- Dell E771mm monitor displays only the mouse cursor in Alpha 6
+ Ubuntu fails to display desktop enviornment.

** Description changed:

When loading the Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex Alpha 6 Live Cd, the "Start or
Install Ubuntu" screen displays as normal. The Ubuntu loading screen
then comes up and the loading bar is filled normally by an orange fill
bar. In Alpha 5, the screen was black and an Ubuntu startup noise
played. Pressing ctrl+alt+Backspace caused a logout and the sound to
play again, but still no image. In Alpha 6 , the mouse cursor appears,
but no sound is heard. I can move the mouse freely, but
ctrl+alt+backspace pressed does not lead to any sounds.
+
+ 13 Oct, 2008
+ Today I tried to install Ubuntu 8.10 on the Dell Optiplex GX260 that has been
plagued with the described problems. Using the 8.10 Beta LiveCD, I select the
second option from the CD menu, "Install Ubuntu". This brings up the new
wallpaper with the Intstaller and Partitioner. Mouse support and keyboard work
as they should. Upon completion of the installation, Ubuntu Restarts and goes
in to the login window. Here is where the success ends.
+
+ Using GNOME, a black background with a mouse cursor appears. The mouse
+ is usable. The keyboard will not respond. Using a failsafe GNOME, a
+ brown background appears. Again, the I/O devices work the same.
+
+ In recovery mode, or from a failsafe terminal, commands can be input,
+ but I do not know what to do at this point.
+
+ Today's test also included a trial installation of Kubuntu, but that
+ never succeeded in getting past the KDE 4.1 loading screen. A snazzy
+ background with a fancy box in the center appears and displays a HDD.
+ The screen then flickers into forever. This is a separtate bug that may
+ be related.

2008-09-29 Thread TheMemphisE
I tried to check the syslog to see why it had failed, but upon trying to
do so, it succeeded in making a connection. Other matters are more
pressing right now, but I will do some follow up testing later in the
day. Hopefully it will fail again. But hopefully it will succeed.

It might be useful to get the syslog output of this happening (ie
covering the period where the network manager lights are lighting up)

Re: [Bug 272367] Re: [Intrepid] iwl4965 cannot connect

2008-09-25 Thread TheMemphisE
In Alpha 5, the network manager had an option for a Hex password, which
is what I use to get online. However, that was gone in Alpha 6. But I
could not even access unprotected routers in Alpha 6, which is what is
particularly worrisome.

But yours did not connect even in Alpha 5, whereas mine did.
Unfortunately, I am not technically inclined and cannot even begin to
think why mine worked and yours didn't unless the vendors changed
something in the cards.

I can confirm this bug on my thinkpad t61 using a iwl4965 wlan-card.

But I had the same problem on Alpha-5!
