Does anyone know of a backup program that works?  This one never
terminates and doesn't report errors to alog like any, and I mean ANY,
sensible, properly programmed program.

It seems that the system allows unofficial software to installed without
any warning.  How can this be avoided?  By just using software that
comes from Canonical - if so then Ubuntu is no better than Windows.
There surely should be some warning when a package seeks to upgrade an
official release to a later version?

I have updated to 0.5.42, and now after the white logo the bootstrap
hangs for over 1 minute 20 seconds with nothing on the screen at all.
This is unacceptable, even for old hands, never mind new users. (AMD
Phenom x 4 3Ghz + 4G, i386).

Binary package hint: jpilot

Using Sync since the Edgy update (and with ALL subsequent upgrades
applied) still fails with J-Pilot reporting:


 Syncing on device /dev/ttyS0
 Press the HotSync button now

dlp_ReadSysInfo error
Exiting with status SYNC_ERROR_PI_CONNECT
Finished

This was reported in bug #68815 in November 2006 but I cannot now find that bug.
