[Bug 855995] [NEW] Root Partition Reported Full

2011-09-21 Thread Thelasko
Public bug reported:

Every month or so my system informs me my root partition is full. When
I check the status via df -h it shows /var/lib/ureadahead/ as
taking up several GB of disk space. Running fsck seems to solve the
issue temporarily, but it's inconvenient to run, as I have to unmount my
root partition.

My system is fully patched and up-to-date.

about this. You can forward this bug report upstream. You shouldn't
expect users to do the legwork on bug reports. I believe some programs

[Bug 690901] Re: prints blank pages

2010-12-22 Thread Thelasko
After examining some of the printouts that were performed on my wife's
Windows machine, I noticed that text was not true black. Apparently,
something in Windows tells the printer to print black text with the
color cartridge when the black ink runs out. Linux doesn't do this,
hence the odd behavior.

I've replaced the black cartridge, and now everything works fine!

Sorry for the trouble.

Till:

The black cartridge works under Windows. Also, this model of printer
will show the ink level when the door is open. It says the color ink is
lower than the black.

Cycling the power did not help.

I tried reconfiguring the driver and received the message:
[cups-driverd] Bad driver information file /usr/share/cups/drv/sample.drv!
I don't know if that means anything or not.

[Bug 690901] Re: prints blank pages

2010-12-21 Thread Thelasko
I'm not sure what update specifically caused this issue. However, this
printer is connected directly to my Ubuntu machine, but is shared on the
network. My wife's Windows machine can print to it perfectly, but my
Ubuntu machine has this issue. From my understanding, each machine
using this printer has the drivers stored locally, leading me to believe
this is an issue with the driver.

[Bug 376981] Re: cannot connect to email server unless gufw is running

2009-05-28 Thread Thelasko
I figured it out. This is an issue with Moblock. If moblock is closed
without stopping it, these issues occur.

[Bug 381018] [NEW] Error message 6228

Public bug reported:

[Bug 376750] Re: Network History Oscillates

2009-05-16 Thread Thelasko
Benoît Dejean, a developer at GNOME states:

That's a bug in your network driver, i've already seen this. It fails to update
its statistics (how many bytes in and out) every second: so if you set the
graph to refresh every second, you get 0 and then the double.

My only advice is too to double your refresh rate.

How would I find out which driver I'm using?

[Bug 327459] [NEW] Interferes with Pidgin

2009-02-09 Thread Thelasko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: stellarium

If Pidgin is open it flickers in the background while Stellarium is
open. This flickering is visible in Stellarium. Specifically the tray
icon flickers, but other aspects of Pidgin may flicker as well.

[Bug 322372] [NEW] AMD64 name is confusing

2009-01-28 Thread Thelasko
Public bug reported:

Currently the installation CD for 64-bit Ubuntu is titled ubuntu-8.10
-desktop-amd64.iso. This title is confusing as it implies that it is
only for users with AMD brand processors, when in reality it's for any
processor with an X86-64 architecture. To avoid confusion, please refer
to this version as X86-64 instead of amd64.

[Bug 315517] [NEW] Users install from Adobe site

2009-01-09 Thread Thelasko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

After talking with some people on Ubuntuforums
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1000906highlight=flash) I
have discovered that most people are having trouble with flash because
they install it from Adobe's website and not from the repositories. The
version from the Adobe website does not install nspluginwrapper like the
repository version. This causes many issues.

Unfortunately, this problem is more political than software related, but
something needs to be done about it.

To duplicate:
1. Install a fresh version of Ubuntu without flashplugin-nonfree.
2. Go to youtube.com in Firefox.
3. You will notice both an information bar in Firefox and a link on the web
page notifying you to install Flash, click the link and not the information bar.
4. You will be directed to Adobe.com and be instructed to install a .deb file.
5. Download the .deb file and install it.
You have now installed Adobe's Flash plugin for Ubuntu instead of the version
from the repository.

[Bug 307590] [NEW] Pidgin can't login without gui-ufw running

2008-12-12 Thread Thelasko

[Bug 304458] [NEW] Miro can't access partition

2008-12-02 Thread Thelasko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: miro

Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron amd64
Package Name: miro (1.1.2-0ubuntu2)

If files are saved on another partition or directory, Miro cannot access
them unless another program does first.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Miro from the repositories
2. go to FileOptions and click on the folders tab
3. Select a folder on another partition or drive.
4. Download some videos with Miro
5. Restart the machine
6. Open Miro
What Happens: An error message will be displayed stating that miro cannot find
the directory specified in step 3.
What Should Happen: Miro should open and be able to access the files in the
directory specified in step 3

Steps to correct:
1. Complete Steps 1-5 above.
2. Open Nautilus and browse the partition or drive selected in step 3.
3. Open Miro.
4. Miro should function normally.

This may be an issue with the drive needing to be mounted before Miro
can access it. However, the drive is shown in Nautilus at boot.

[Bug 110183] Re: gmplayer doesn't change video size when switched to fullscreen

2007-08-09 Thread Thelasko
Same problem here. Fullscreen doesn't work in X11 output mode and video
flickers in OpenGL output mode. It looks like if anything is moving
(i.e. you receive and IM, a webpage refreshes, or even the bar moving
across the gmplayer box) it makes the video flicker in that location. I
have found that minimizing all windows makes the video much smoother.
However, it is very difficult to read the right click menu due to the
video trying to cover the menu.

from what my further searching has uncovered fullscreen requires
hardware overlay which is only available with the Xv output mode. You
may have to change your xorg.conf file to get it to work (unpleasant).
Or maybe X just doesn't like your video card.

[Bug 118949] Comiz corrupts GRUB

2007-06-06 Thread Thelasko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

Please forgive me I'm not a programmer but this is what happened.
I am running a Dell Dimension E520 with the Intel Core 2 duo 4300. Standard
video card (NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE Graphics GPU), 1Gb of ram, E207FP Widescreen
Flat Panel Display. I dual boot Feisty Fawn and Windows Vista.

Under Feisty Fawn I ran the Desktop-Effects application. The
application worked fine and it made my desktop very pretty.

However, when I rebooted the following happened:

The computer froze on shutdown and had to be shut down manually (I know
it froze because the num lock key no longer turned the LED on and off
anymore)

Upon reboot the only way to get GRUB to run is by opening and closing
the CD tray. (very strange)

Once GRUB loads if I select Ubuntu I get Kernel Panic and the system
is frozen.

However, if I select Windows Vista/Longhorn Vista loads fine.

I tried to reinstall Ubuntu several times and after several hours of
troubleshooting here is what I concluded:

The corruption is in the master boot record because
reformatting/reinstalling Ubuntu fails to solve the problem. (I managed
to fix the MBR using the Vista repair disk)

It appears compiz alters GRUB when its activated causing this problem. I
discovered this by opening the GRUB configuration file and when I
disabled Desktop-Effects I received a message telling me the file I
had open was just altered by another program. Therefore I conclude that
compiz alters GRUB (Why? This makes no sense to me but I'm not a
programmer.) After disabling Desktop-Effects the system works
normally.

Thanks

[Bug 118949] Re: Comiz corrupts GRUB

2007-06-06 Thread Thelasko
correction: It may alter GRUB but what fixes the booting is reseting
the BIOS. I don't know what kind of BIOS I have. I will try to post it
later.
