Yes, I killed it because it had been stuck there for several hours, as
reported by several other people around the web. So I guess the bug
summary is wrong, as it was auto-generated when I killed the process and
I assumed incorrectly that it was reporting the actual issue that was
occurring.

I've found an earlier bug that's still open for the same issue. Marking
this as a duplicate of that.

[Bug 657788] Re: grub minimal bash after first Maverick update

2010-11-12 Thread Thomas Ibbotson
I'm not sure whether this is related, but on upgrading to Maverick I too
had the issue of grub dropping to a minimal shell. It was coupled with a
message about udevadm trigger not allowed when udev not configured. A
workaround was to stop grub from using UUIDs. For me using Grub 2 this
meant editing /etc/default/grub and setting
"GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true". This prevents grub dropping to a shell,
but it still waits for a timeout on the udev message before finally
booting.

[Bug 358654] Re: udevadm trigger is not permitted while udev is unconfigured

2010-11-01 Thread Thomas Ibbotson
I also had this problem. The solution was to stop grub from using UUIDs.
For me using Grub 2 this meant editing /etc/default/grub and setting
"GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true". Unfortunately this does not fix the core
problem, but it does at least allow you to boot.

[Bug 382253] Re: vim-latexsuite does not show tex-suite menus and no functionality

2010-03-08 Thread Thomas Ibbotson
So this is not a problem with vim itself, but a problem with the
packaging of vim-latexsuite. In order for it to work "sudo vim-addons -w
install latex-suite" needs to be run AND you need "filetype plugin on"
in your .vimrc. If a user installs latexsuite perhaps "filetype plugin
on" should be enabled in /etc/vim/vimrc.

Marking invalid in Vim and Confirmed in vim-latexsuite.

[Bug 515655] [NEW] ubuntuone client in proposed not syncing files

2010-02-01 Thread Thomas Ibbotson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-client

I don't know how to tell if this is a duplicate of all the other bugs
with sync problems, so I'm creating a new one. I added new files that
didn't exist on the server or any of my other computers and these were
reported to be successfully synced. However when I checked the web
client later they were not there. When I then got back and checked the
original computer they were marked as ".u1conflict" files. As they had
never existed on the server or anywhere else, I removed the
".u1conflict" extension and they were reported to have been successfully
synced. They still did not appear on the server.

I then restarted the ubuntuone client to add debug information, added
files to my Ubuntu One folder, and this time nothing happened at all.

[Bug 496681] Re: Rhythmbox does not save playlist on iPod

2010-01-17 Thread Thomas Ibbotson
I just spent an hour creating a playlist on my iPod only to find out
later that the playlist could not be saved, so I lost an hour's work.
This is unacceptable, Rhythmbox should not allow you to create a
playlist on the iPod if it cannot be saved, or should at least warn you
that you will lose it once you remove the iPod. Why is this bug marked
as Low priority? Surely given that data can be lost it should be marked
Critical?

[Bug 471127] [NEW] ImageJ fails to run - /usr/share/imagej/jni/*: No such file or directory

2009-11-02 Thread Thomas Ibbotson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: imagej

When trying to run imagej on a fresh install of Karmic the following
error message is produced:

Open other images in this ImageJ panel as follows:
  imagej -p 1 [ ... ]

cat: /usr/share/imagej/jni/*: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/imagej: line 418: //bin/java: No such file or directory

which shows 2 problems. The first is the problem I am reporting here.
The 2nd can be worked around by setting the JAVA_HOME environment
variable appropriately.

imagej:
  Installed: 1.43b-1ubuntu1

  Version table:
 *** 1.43b-1ubuntu1 0

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install imagej: "sudo apt-get install imagej"
2. Run imagej from a command-line: "imagej"

Also if I set the JAVA_HOME variable correctly, I get the following
error message:

Thanks Antonio,

I followed the instructions on the page linked on that page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/IntelPerformance and found
that using UXA fixed the issue for me.

[Bug 42283] Re: not possible to launch evince as dvi viewer programm out of gvim latexsuite

2009-04-22 Thread Thomas Ibbotson
The root cause of this is a bug in Vim itself. This has been fixed in the patch
7.2.097. So you can either compile Vim yourself including the patch, or wait
until it makes it into Ubuntu (which might be some time). Here's a link to the
mailing list thread where it was discussed:

[Bug 42283] Re: not possible to launch evince as dvi viewer programm out of gvim latexsuite

2009-04-22 Thread Thomas Ibbotson
I am trying to work out what's going wrong here. It appears that the
command which calls the dvi viewer has an & at the end which seems to be
causing it to fail. To work around this you can put the following line
in your .vimrc:

let g:Tex_ExecuteUNIXViewerInForeground = 1

[Bug 256429] Re: following finger scan requires carriage-return

2008-10-31 Thread Thomas Ibbotson

to my xorg.conf and then enable it by adding a line

InputDevice "Generic Keyboard"

to the "ServerLayout" section, the fingerprint reader works as before.

Adding this to my xorg.conf causes unwanted side-effects, such as
causing my volume control button next to my headphone jack to stop
working, and bizarrely stopping the key combinations ctrl- to
stop working also. So this is not an option for me.
