[Bug 429393] Re: can't restore files in subfolders in trash via drag'n'drop
I'm having the exact same problem in 11.04. I can't even get copy-paste to work. [Bug 533269] Re: External display not working
Update: I've found that there seems to be a maximum width (and height) to the combined desktop. My external monitor is 1600x900, and my laptop's screen is 1024x600. External monitor is on the left. I can set my monitors to 800x600+1024x600 with no problems. If I set them to 1280x720+1024x600, I am left with a black bar at the bottom of my stretched external monitor, and the right half of the screen is black on my laptop monitor. The mouse cursor draws on these black areas when it's next to them, but I can't move the mouse cursor into them. My panels are on the laptop monitor, but cut off on the right side. If I align the monitors in Monitor Preferences so that the tops align, both of the panels are vertically situated correctly, but if I align their bottoms, the lower panel disappears and the right monitor is cut off on the right and bottom (so it's just a square aligned with the upper-right of the laptop monitor.) Same for 1280x800+1024x600. The black spaces are all bigger. Same for 1280x960+1024x600, and 1600x900+1024x600. Telling Monitor Preferences that the monitor is on the right and the laptop is on the left does about the same thing, except my monitor is no longer stretched horizontally, it just draws black space on the right. If I press Fn+F5, the laptop Function key to change extended desktop setup, my external monitor works fine, but my panels are missing. They seem to be drawn off-screen, because Alt+F1 doesn't bring them up. My laptop monitor is black, but the cursor draws on it if I move it to the right edge of the external monitor, though I can't actually move the cursor into my laptop monitor. According to Monitor Preferences, which updates every time I press Fn+F5, the laptop monitor is on with a resolution of 1024x600. Odd, because I get different results described above if I set this up manually in Monitor Preferences. [Bug 542459] [NEW] Lucid Beta 1: nautilus or plymouth crashes on login, blank desktop, no panels
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Just upgraded to Beta 1 from Karmic. GRUB works fine, boot works fine, login screen comes up fine. But when I log in, the desktop never loads and it never shows the desktops or panels. All I have is my wallpaper, there are no icons or panels. Alt+F1 does not work. Trying netbook- edition does bring up the netbook interface, but not the top panel. Alt+F2 still works, as do all other keyboard shortcuts. I can run programs. Ctrl-Alt-Delete works too. "gnome-panel" runs from shell. When I run it it shows a Application problem notification for "plymouthd closed unexpectedly". Also, Alt+F1 works while gnome-panel is running. "nautilus" crashes immediately when run from shell. Spits out this: ~$ nautilus (nautilus:2178): EggSMClient-WARNING **: Could not load desktop file '/usr/share/applications/nautilus.desktop': Key file does not start with a group Segmentation fault (core dumped) tho...@klou:~$ nautilus (nautilus:2193): EggSMClient-WARNING **: Could not load desktop file '/usr/share/applications/nautilus.desktop': Key file does not start with a group Segmentation fault (core dumped) ~$ When I use the panel menus (after bringing them up manually) to open a folder under Places, I get a dialog that says: Could not open location: "file:///home/UserName" No application is registered as handling this file My theory is that nautilus segfaults and messes up boot and every time it is run, but this might also be related to plymouth. [Bug 537848] Re: panel background looks bad when left or right oriented
Changed package to light-themes. [Bug 537841] [NEW] indicator bar on panel ignores mouse except when clicking
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: indicator-applet I miss the old extra functions, like being able to change system volume with the scroll wheel, and being able to Pause/Play Rhythmbox with a middle click. Before the indicator applet took over, many of the panel icons responded to mouse-over (making popups), middle clicking, and scroll wheel movement. Understandably, right-clicking has been changed to only apply to the indicator-applet, so most of the menu options are now in the left-click menus. Solution: Make indicator icons respond to mouse-over, middle-click, and scroll wheel during mouse-over as they did in Karmic. [Bug 535398] [NEW] openoffice find and replace window maximized
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: maximus On Ubuntu Netbook Edition, OpenOffice's Find and Replace window does not behave properly. It opens maximized, when it should open in its own window. This causes odd graphical "junk" when used. Steps: 1) Start a UNE session and launch OpenOffice. 2) Make a new text document. 3) Press "Ctrl+F". You'll see that the find window opens maximized, at the upper-left corner of the screen with its title bar on the panel. 4) Press enter to try to find something. You'll see that the find window now tries to maximize itself, (which fails to redraw the screen.) Solution: Modify the UNE packages to not maximize the OpenOffice Find & Replace window. This may also affect other OpenOffice dialogs and windows, which will need to be excluded also. [Bug 534828] [NEW] have to press enter to bring up login screen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: plymouth Steps: 1) Power on machine. 2) Select Lucid distro from GRUB 3) Plymouth loads, shows the purple screen with the Ubuntu logo and some blinking red dots 4) Problem: The "login drums" sound plays and I'm on a black screen with a cursor at the upper-left and my mouse cursor confined to a terminal-sized rectangle. Pressing keys will write gibberish characters to the terminal. 5) When I finally press "Enter", then the login screen comes up. System continues normally, I can log in, no more problems (related to this bug, at least.) It's an annoying but nonfatal bug, ought to be fixed for the final release. I directly upgraded from Karmic (a three-month old version) to this release. If it's important, I'm also using ntfs-config and netbook- launcher (but UNE isn't my primary desktop.) Machine is an Acer Aspire One 250 netbook. I don't know if this is related to the "press enter to crash" bug. The symptoms are different. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 486056 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/486056 Oh, I found out something that might help. The crash only occurs when I have Appearance>Visual Effects set to Normal or Extra, and it's because of the width of the virtual desktop. I was able to reliably duplicate the crash. Whenever I try to use Display Prefences to make an extended desktop with a total width bigger than about 2000 pixels (I'm guessing 2048,) it will cause the crash. (Part of the Fn + F5 hotkey's functions is to cycle through four different monitor setups: laptop only, external only, extended desktop, and mirrored, so pressing Fn + F5 will sometimes cause this crash.) With Appearance>Visual Effects set to None, I can extend the desktop without any problems. When I try to set Visual Effects higher while the desktop is extended bigger than 2000 pixels, it gives an error message, "Desktop effects could not be enabled". >From what I've read elsewhere, I understand that this might be an Intel hardware error... -- [i945gme] Freeze when switching to an external monitor via hotkey https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/445229 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 419328 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419328 Yeah, it's definitely not #466539. #419328 looks similar (the original description is very vague), but opening Display Preferences does not cause the crash. It's a different bug. This bug only freezes the system when I click "Apply" in Display Preferences after trying to change which monitor I'm using. Cycling monitor output with Fn + F5 will also cause a freeze. When frozen, I will get a black screen and (sometimes) an unresponsive mouse cursor. There's still hard drive activity and audio, but the freeze is fatal. It doesn't come up very often, it seems like it only causes a problem once you've switched back and forth between the external monitor and laptop's monitor a few times. [Bug 109847] Sound not working after reinstal to Feisty Fawn
Public bug reported: Using a Toshiba Satellite A105. After being unable to upgrade from Edgy Eft to Feisty Fawn, I just reinstalled the whole OS from a new image. Everything in Feisty works fine except for sound (and out-of-the-box media compatibility, but that's another issue). Sound worked fine in Edgy, but I think losing sound in this update is a fair trade for Ubuntu not forgetting about my USB mouse. Still, I'd like sound back. The volume control on the taskbar just shows an icon with a red cross- out blip over it. Volume Control > Open Volume Control gives a blank window, but the menu options still work. File > Change Device only shows "HDA ATI SB (Alsa mixer)". Edit > Preferences shows a check-box dialog with "Caller ID" and "Off-hook". Volume Control > Preferences doesn't return anything right now, though previously it popped a dialog that said it didn't know and that it was either GStreamer's or the driver's fault.
