I can reproduce this bug in Xubuntu Quantal. It happens shortly after every boot. I've also tried with Wireless and that works as well. Seems to have been fixed by some update. Same here. And even Adept-Manager only allows updates after manually fetching package lists. it seems that the article list is reduced to zero height by default. There should be a - hardly visible - resize handle between the search bar and the article window. Pull that down to see the list.
