[Bug 1251849] Re: [VX820] Regression: driver does not work on Samsung NC20
@Alberto: I use a Samsung NC20 Netbook with a Via Nano Processor and the VX800 chipset. I am using it with several 32 bit Kubuntu releases since 2009. I had the regression described in this thread, that's the reason why I created and use the package in my PPA. But with that, everything runs fine for me... :-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1251849 Title: [VX820] Regression: driver does not work on Samsung NC20 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/openchrome/+bug/1251849/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1251849] Re: [VX820] Regression: driver does not work on Samsung NC20
Dear Alberto, from your logs, it seems that the package in my PPA at least improved the situation, and X does not crash anymore when loading the openchrome driver. But it seems you have an additional problem to the one that was solved in the package in my PPA. I recognized that you use a 64 Bit system, whereas I am using a 32 Bit system. Maybe there is an additional regression affecting only 64 Bit systems? Anyways, I think you could try compiling your own openchrome driver based on the latest upstream version and report your bug there, too. With git, you may even be able to find the commit that introduced your regression for your system. You are right, I just recognized that only one of the patches went to stable. But as both are required to fix the bug, I think I'll ask if the other patch could go to stable, too. FInally two patches have been merged upstream that together fix this bug: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git;a=commitdiff;h=8aef33a7cf40ca9da188e8578b2abe7267a38c52 http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git;a=commitdiff;h=f427e5f1cf75bba84cccdac1d8a90552d9ae1065 It would be great if you could also merge these commits to fix this bug in Precise and Quantal. [Bug 995005] [NEW] C-state C3 does not work after disconnecting the AC power from notebook
Public bug reported: On my Samsung NC20 Netbook the BIOS hides the C3 C-state when the AC power is connected, but it should show up and work as soon as the AC power is disconnected. This expected behavior worked fine as long as I used Oneiric. But now I upgraded to Precise and now C3 does not work anymore after disconnecting the AC power. I have verified, that booting the Oneiric kernel 3.0.0-19.33 instead of the Precise Kernel 3.2.0-24.37 (same userspace) fixes the problem. To gather some information, I executed this command with the Precise kernel grep -r /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpuidle/ in different system states: 1. newly booted without having the AC power attached 2. having the AC power attached (without C3, as expected) 3. now after having the AC power disconnected (not functional C3 -- bug) The output is combined in the attached file cpuidle.txt. --- AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. [Bug 410262] Re: [VX800]openchrome hangs when the mouse cursor is inside of a image in gimp
With the release of the new package I did happily see that the patch from revision 921 (which fixed the problem for me) was added. Unfortunately I had to realize that also xaa_solid.patch was added what re-introduced the gimp-hang for me. I was also reporting that upstream in bug 354, and thus this second patch was not applied upstream. http://openchrome.org/trac/ticket/354 So please revert 101_xaa_solid.patch, as this re-introduces this bug for me! [Bug 778043] [NEW] vesafb: mtrr module parameter is uint, not bool
Public bug reported: The UBUNTU SAUCE patches that add module support to vesafb make the mtrr module parameter bool. [Bug 574733] Re: serve Xorg performance penalty due to [u]vesafb creating wrong PAT entries
Hi, I tested this kernel linked from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds with lucid: linux-image-2.6.35-999-generic_2.6.35-999.201006021335_i386.deb It does not contain vesafb but uvesafb module. So I tested uvesafb and it behaves just like the lucid kernel module. This means even though uvesafb adds write-combining MTRR entries it adds uncached-minus PAT entries. Therefore the openchrome driver cannot add overlapping write- combining PAT entries and also uses uncached-minus PAT entries. This results in the serve performance penalty exactly as described in my first post. So no difference between lucid kernel and mainline kernel. I'll remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. [Bug 574733] Re: serve Xorg performance penalty due to [u]vesafb creating wrong PAT entries
Hi Jeremy, today I tested the maverick alpha 1 and observed the same behavior as with lucid: 1. No extra kernel parameters: - vga16fb is loaded and not [u]vesafb - thus the framebuffer terminal does not work on my NC20 (maybe I should open a bug for this, too?) - no PAT entries are created by vga16fb - correct (write combining) PAT entries for openchrome 2. video=vesafb:mtrr=3 vga=792 kernel parameter - vesafb is loaded - now the framebuffer terminal works correctly - uncached-minus PAT entries are created by vesafb - incorrect (uncached-minus) PAT entries for openchrome Unfortunately the maverick alpha 1 ISO has no uvesafb in the initramfs, so I couldn't test this. I will upload the apport files while above config 2. is loaded. [Bug 574746] Re: [VX800] serve Xorg performance regression (fullscreen flash)
Hi, I finally found the reason for the worse x11perf ShmPutImage results, which turned out to be unrelated to the flash fullscreen issue, and I found a way to fix the fullscreen flash issue here. First, the worse x11perf ShmPutImage are a result of this change in xorg: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=11817a881cb93a89788105d1e575a468f2a8d27c With this change reverted, I get back the high benchmark result, but I see that the described bug is reintroduced and it does _not_ help the fullscreen flash issue. So it's better to not revert this change... But then I found an easy way to get the good karmic fullscreen flash experience. I simply had to disable hardware acceleration in the flash preferences. So this bug seems to be in the flash player trying to use hardware acceleration which is not available... So thank you for your attention, and sorry for the noise! [Bug 574746] Re: [VX800] serve Xorg performance regression (fullscreen flash)
Hi Bartosz, I compiled the latest version of openchrome (r851) which seems to already include the patch you posted (r848). Unfortunately this does not change anything regarding the fullscreen flash problem nor for the x11perf testcase. I tested XAA and EXA, both didn't change significantly. The EXA results will be attached. As I had the setup now, I also built the version I used with karmic (r838) and tested this. Unfortunately no change either. So I don't think this is related with the openchrome driver alone, I think this problem is about a change in the core Xorg server.
