[Bug 337157] [NEW] opengl screensavers freeze/lockup on re-entry
Public bug reported: I am running kubuntu 8.10 updated to kde 4.2 through intrepid-backports repository packages. I have installed only the screensavers that shipped with the distribution by default. apt-cache policy kscreensaver: kscreensaver: Installed: 4:4.2.0-0ubuntu1~intrepid1 Candidate: 4:4.2.0-0ubuntu1~intrepid1 Version table: *** 4:4.2.0-0ubuntu1~intrepid1 0 500 http://ftp.uninett.no intrepid-backports/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 4:4.1.4-0ubuntu1~intrepid1 0 500 http://ftp.uninett.no intrepid-updates/main Packages 4:4.1.2-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://ftp.uninett.no intrepid/main Packages Expected behavior After a set idle time screensaver should turn on, and after an optional wait should lock access to the computer. Access to computer can be re-opened by touching mouse or keyboard to bring up a password dialog box. If correct password is entered, access is given to the ordinary desktop running as before the screensaver turned on. Actual behavior When using OpenGL enabled screensavers like, for example, 'flux", the screensaver itself displays properly, but after the computer is locked such that a password is required to open it again, it is impossible to continue to use the computer. The dialog box for entering the password and unlocking does not appear. The opengl 'flux' display is terminated and the log/in screen shows (not the desktop background but the kde splash login) - without any login related stuff like a place to enter your password. It just shows the background of the kde splash login, not the login dialog. There appears to be no way out of this lock (not even restart X CtrlAltBackspace) except the dreaded power button. ** Affects: kdeartwork (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- opengl screensavers freeze/lockup on re-entry https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/337157 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdeartwork in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 131767] Re: konqueror cannot access internet with cache enable
Hello I am back with an update: After upgrading to 8.10 Intrepid I can confirm I still have this issue, the upgrade and switch to KDE4 in this aspect had absolutely no effect. The problems only affect my workstation with AMD64X2 processor, ASUS- M2N-SLI mptherboard and the Nvidia Nforce 590 Chipset. I also own a laptop (Intel based Toshiba) where I don't have this problem, so I suspect there may be some architecture-dependent error triggering involved. All I need to do to trigger a system freeze on my desktop workstation is to go into Konqueror settings>cache>enable cache, and the machine grinds to a halt in about 10 seconds. A hardware reset button reboot is the only way I can get control of the machine again (well actually maybe some fancy escape key combinations on the keyboard could but I doubt it). [Bug 131767] Re: konqueror cannot access internet with cache enable
At the moment, neither is installed on the machine where I found the problem, an AMD64x2 on ASUS M2N-SLI motherboard with Nvidida Nforce590 chipset. Therefore I cannot give you any new test results from the same machine as of now. This machine is configured "conservatively" and stability is a priority. I have a newer laptop with an intel core processor where I have allowed myself to play with cool new hacks such as KDE4, and on that machine I don't have any problems with the cache on using KDE4. That does not eliminate the possibility for it still being a problem on the AMD64X2 workstation, if the problem is related to specific pieces of hardware which is not installed on the laptop. -- konqueror cannot access internet with cache enable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131767 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 210303] Re: [hardy] kaffeine loops on "Codec package is already installed"
I get this codec installer never ending loop problem like whenever I try to play some asx files too. I know I also get the problem with other file types, but I am 100% certain I get it with asx files that contain mms protocol references to wmw files. This is a fairly common way for wrapping media streams I think. Trying to look into possible causes I have noticed that if I do a apt-cache search xine aa few packages which are listed include libxine-ffmpeg. However when trying to do apt-get install libxine-ffmpeg it is not there (yes I had the medibuntu repository enabled) Is it possible that this has created some unreported problems during an upgrade which later leads to all the codec installation neverendings? -- [hardy] kaffeine loops on "Codec package is already installed" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210303 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 131767] Re: konqueror cannot access internet with cache enable
I have installed Kubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 regular release with KDE 3.5.9/Konqueror 3.5.9 (I upgraded from Gutsy). I am experiencing similar problem: I can't get Konqueror to load anything from the net when I have cache enabled. However, I am unable to get any decent error messages out of my system because "everything" just freezes up. I can't open another window on my machine. Konsole sessions stop responding (but somehow I can start new sessions in a Konsole window with a frozen konsole session tab open.) A lot of the command line programs like "top" stops responding. However, the workaround is the same as described above: turn off cache and konqueror starts working. To me that indicates that this most probably is the same bug. I think this is a pretty serious problems as many good websites these days does not work efficiently without cache due to frequent reloads from server. -- konqueror cannot access internet with cache enable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131767 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 60690] Re: flickr export does not work
I have just discovered that one way to recreate this problem is to name your photos in digikam with some name that contains a non ASCII character. I frequently use ÆØÅ and æøå (because I am Norwegian), Just now I uploaded a folder of photos to Flickr and noticed that all the failed uploads have æøå in their filename, while all the succesful uploads didn't. These photos were taken using a olympus mju500 camera. I am confident that there are other ways to create the same error message. [Bug 108436] Re: Konqueror works only when run as root
I have been working on a system freeze up related to konqueror all day, and I think this may be the reason for it. I have tried a lot of hypotheses of my own making and some with a little help from my friends at kubuntuforums.net. Please see this thread for more information on my error-searching and fixing attemtps: http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=3091920.0 There might be something related to the local cache because the first time I opened konqueror AND SURFED THE WEB after after i did mv .kde .kde_old I could run konqueror fine. The second time, however, the system freeze was back. I then noticed that I got a particular errormessage in .xsession-errors: ASSERT: "!icon.isEmpty()" in /build/buildd/kdebase-3.5.8/./libkonq/konq_pixmapprovider.cc (81) Next, I tried running konqueror from a konsole window. I get the same error message repeatedly in that window, it just scrolls until I loose count of how many times (ie. when loading www.kde.org, for example. This typically would result in a system freeze but by disabling local cache it appears that the system does not freeze up anymore, however it does still report the error messages (umpteen times) when loading www.kde.org. I suggest that the bug be renamed to provide more intuitive information, ie contain part of the errormessage at least -- Konqueror works only when run as root https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108436 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 91132] Re: screensaver (?) locks up computer or causes reboot
Finally I have managed to trap more information on this bug. Here is from my /var/log/messages in the past few days. What you see at the top of the list is the npviewer segfault, and you can see that this is not fatal, at least not directly by any means, as the computer kept running apparently normally for more than three hours afterwards. Then suddenly at three o'clock in the night, something not usual takes place. I cannot understand what is going on - but you can also see that when I returned to the computer the following afternoon I had to restart it to get something done. [Bug 91132] Re: screensaver (?) locks up computer or causes reboot
npviewer is a netscape plugin viewer. It enables flash in 64 bit firefox. I think the messages concerning npviewer is due to the fact that it is enabled also in konqueror (and is started by any webpage using flash) - however it does not work in konqueror (needs a special patched version of konqueror). I have evaluated the options and do not think the screensaver and lockup problem is related to npviewer. The problems were there long time before installing npviewer. Are there more relevant info in some other log files maybe? -- screensaver (?) locks up computer or causes reboot https://launchpad.net/bugs/91132 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 91132] screensaver (?) locks up computer or causes reboot
Public bug reported: I am using Kubuntu 6.10. (64 bit) My computer has Motherboard: Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 Memory: OCZ DDR2 2048MB Platinum XTC Dual Ch GFX card: POV GeFORCE 7900 GT (Nvidia I have noticed for quite some time that when I leave my computer unattended for longer preiods of time, it would be locked up completely when I returned. This would happen after the power saving had blanked my monitors. It was not possible to ssh into the machine, and the screens would never "wake up" from their sleep, regardless of how much i cliked on buttons and tapped the keyboard. I finally became so irritated with this that i decided I wanted to fix it (and this bug report is part of that process). Troubleshooting I have tried so far: - switching off DPMS in xorg.conf file. This results in one of 2 endings when I leave the computer unattended for quite some time. Either X or KDM restarts (session terminates somehow and I need to log in again) or the screensaver will be on, but stalled. The stalled screensaver led me to believe that the problem was rather in the screensaver than with the power management features, so I will now re-enable DPMS. All in all the problems seemed less frequent with DPMS enabled but that may be totall conincidental. I wonder what to do now? I have had enough lock-ups and need some help to resolve this :) ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- screensaver (?) locks up computer or causes reboot https://launchpad.net/bugs/91132 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 71094] Re: Colour depth problem on one display following upgrade to edgy
What I think might be the problem. It appears that I don't get a full colour depth resolution at my left screen. I don't know why, but I guess xorg.conf can at least be used to solve the problem. It appears that something that went right by default earlier, now goes wrong I have 2 Samsung synCmaster 204B monitors, and a GeForce 7900 Nvidia graphics card. I use digital video connection to the monitors from the graphicscard. I think that my left monitor is currently not getting the 24 bit default resolution: -- Colour depth problem on one display following upgrade to edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/71094 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 71094] Colour depth problem on one display following upgrade to edgy
Public bug reported: Some days ago, I posted information concerning this problem on kubuntuforums.org. Later I added the same problem description to ubuntuforums.net. I am not getting any useful feedback (at least I have not, so far) except some other users have reported very similar problems. This url will send you to the relevant thread on kubuntuforums.org. (Picture is included there, and link to topics on ubuntuforum). http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=10686.0 Here follows paste of my problem description: I have noticed that I get a colour distortion on one of my screens after I upgraded to Edgy. I don't know if it is related to the upgrade at all, but it did not use to be a problem earlier. The Symptoms: I use a greyscale image for my wallpaper (i have as much as possible in greyscales atm). After the upgrade, I noted that the darker grey shades were being rendered as "petrol stain" greenish-pinkish-blues instead of a smooth transition from dark grey to even darker grey to almost black. Below is a screenshot onto which I have indicated where the colours start "folding" into petrol stain instead of darkening as they should do. click on image for larger version (please see kubuntuforums). I expect that on your screen, it will look quite normal dark grey to black where I get the problem with the "petrol staining". An important observation Just as I was the description for this topic, I noticed that as I moved the GIMP window where I have the screenshot for resizing, the "petrol stain" was removed on the other screen. Moving the window across the desktop, to the first screen again, the petrol stains reappered. Thus, this is only a problem with one of my screens. Also, this goes away at X restart with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace it returns at reboot i don't know which package is causing problem. My xorg.conf file is posted on the kubuntuforums thread, if that should be relevant. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Colour depth problem on one display following upgrade to edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/71094 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 68997] kwalletmanager icon not in system tray, unstartable from menu
Public bug reported: After upgrade from Kubuntu Dapper to Edgy (net-based upgrade following instruction on kubuntu.org) I noticed that my kwallet was not with me (and I couldn't really visit any of my favourite web forums to describe my frustration. Such is life when the kwallet becomes an important part of your computer.) - There was no process running that looked like it could be the wallet - There was no wallet icon in the system tray - There was no menu icon in K>System or K>utilities or K>internet with which I could start the kwalletmanager program I tried to find it using which kwallet, which kdewallet (i forgot the name of the executable) with no sucess. I got a tip on irc that it was still there. I scanned my /usr/bin manually and found the kwalletmanager, and started it from konsole. - There is still no kwallet icon in the system tray - There is still no entry for kwalletmanager in the K menu system - Kwalletmanager is not recognized in the Katapult - BUT the program actually works (I get the dialogue prompt requiring my wallet PW when I visit a website where I have stored my password in the wallet). It even remembers the passwords I entered before the upgrade (..breathes more quitely). ** Affects: kdeutils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- kwalletmanager icon not in system tray, unstartable from menu https://launchpad.net/bugs/68997 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 68995] adept-updater failed to execute "update all" (Kubuntu 6.10 Edgy)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: adept-updater Just after upgrading Kubuntu installation from Dapper to Edgy Eft (following instructions on kubuntu.org for update via the net, ie replacing all dapper with edgy in sources.list and so on) the adept updater reported i had 30 new packages that required updating. I hit the button for adding all updates. What happens then is adept- updater goes to the status screen (where you will usually see progress) and then very quickly (too quickly) closes. In the system tray, the adept-updater icon "traffic sign" is still there, and it reports 30 packages that requires updating. Consequently, in the above process the updates did not take place. Afterwards I added the packages one by one, which seemed to work. I got a little bit more courageus and tried five by five, which worked. Last batch I did was 10 packages, which also worked. My conclusion was that there may be a bug somehow related to the add all updates button, which causes the updating process to terminate early without actually adding updates. ** Affects: adept (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- adept-updater failed to execute "update all" (Kubuntu 6.10 Edgy) https://launchpad.net/bugs/68995 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
