[Bug 1262641] Re: virsh save and virsh managedsave failed with cpu mode = host-passthrough

2015-02-10 Thread Thomas Vachon
@serge,

Yes, I am on Trusty and the Cloud Archive version (openstack juno for us).
I'll deploy it to one server and see how it looks

[Bug 1262641] Re: virsh save and virsh managedsave failed with cpu mode = host-passthrough

2015-02-10 Thread Thomas Vachon
I was able to take the PPA libvirt (1.2.2-0ubuntu13.1.10~ppa1) package
for Trusty and upgrade libvirt (and associated packages). I restarted
nova-compute (since I'm on Openstack).

After checking both apparmor_status before and after (ensuring it was
enforcing and loaded), it appears it was fixed.

I tested by doing a nova snapshot (which calls the underlying libvirt
call) and I did not see any apparmor issue. The instance came back as
expected.

[Bug 1319791] Re: [Dell Latitude E7440] WiFi issue

2014-05-15 Thread Thomas Vachon
Using the Intel 7260 AC Wireless chipset, there is a noticeable slowdown
and multiple disconnection problem. When connected to a hotspot it is
unusable (multiple disconnections, ICMP times nearly 8000MS). Turning
off power management via iwconfig wlan0 power off seems to resolve the
issue.

When the power management is on, you see excessive retries and also
spectrum hopping (2.4 to 5.0 and back). The reported link quality is
reported by iwconfig between 15-25 out of 70 even though the source is
within inches or up to 3 feet away.

When connected to a 802.1b/g/n/a/ac infrastructure network, you will
seep speeds around 2Mbit, and quick dropping to 100-300Kbit on download
(testing via large file gets and HTML5 speed testing).

Turning power management off and blacklisting via echo
'HOOK_BLACKLIST=wireless'  /etc/pm.d/config.d/blacklist seems to
resoove the issue. The exessive retries do not exist nor does the
spectrum hopping. The provisioned speeds in both highly interfere WiFi
areas and interfere-less areas match the expected speeds 50-80Mbit
Download / 8-15Mbit Upload. Testing via a local large file, similarly
does not have the same issue.

It does appear to be the chipset specifically, because USB tethering or
being wired via ethernet do not exhibit this problem, it is only using
the WiFi chip.

[Bug 1289961] Re: Power management causes Intel wifi 7260 slowness

2014-04-03 Thread Thomas Vachon
I also have this on the latest Trusty nightly. Turning off PM fixes it.

I have a 50/10Mbit connection here, and I start at 20Mbit and quickly
fall all the way to ~2Mbit. This is over multiple sequential download
(e.g apt-get upgrade). This is even worse if you are connected over a
mobile hotspot, for instance an iPhone personal hostspot. I get one
webpage to load in that case, but the DNS packets and MBDN end up
putting the link into a very slow state, ~20Kbps or less.

Turning off PM and blacklisting it, I can constantly pull the 50/10. I
have yet to test the hostspot fix, I will be able to tomorrow.

Also, I noticed that with PM on (and even off but less so) , there was
very very high excessive TX retry (48k in 20 minutes) and the computer
is bouncing between two channels broadcasting the same BSSID (Apple
Airport Extreme multi-ap network),

Confirmed, it also fixes connecting the iPhone/iPad hotspot. Having
dealt with MAcs in WLAN enterprise networks before, I know when they
start flapping in and out of powersave, things break, so this makese
sense if the laptop was triggering that conditition through its
powersave issue
