[Bug 1731417] Re: Installed network printer removed automatically when turned off
According to the attached log files hp-setup has created a print queue with the same name as a queue created by cups-browsed, overwriting this queue. As cups-browsed removes all the queues it created when it shuts down, it also has removed this queue. Normally cups-browsed gets a notification from CUPS on any queue modification and if one overwrites one of cups-browsed's queues, cups- browsed releases the queue from its control and so it does not get deleted on shutdown. Only here cups-browsed got shut down too quickly after the queue got overwritten, leaving no time for cups-browsed to receive the notification from CUPS and release the queue from its control. Probably hp-setup restarts CUPS right after creating a queue and this makes systemd restart cups-browsed. To overcome this problem I have now added an additional check to cups- browsed that if it removes a print queue, independent on whether on shutdown or when a printer disappears from DNS-SD (printer turned off or so), it checks whether it perhaps got overwritten and refrains from removing in such a case. I have committed the fix to the upstream GIT of cups-filters: https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups-filters/commit/4814a2238 If you are familiar with building software from source, please test. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1731417 Title: Installed network printer removed automatically when turned off To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups-filters/+bug/1731417/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1813825] Re: "driverless" printer workflow has bad usability/ is partly broken
I think the problem here is CUPS' own method of generating temporary queues for discovered driverless printers. gnome-control-center, and probably other GUIs, like the GTK print dialog, cannot cope with this. So we leave this bug report assigned to gnome-control-center for now. Christian, if you stop cups-browsed you have still auto-generated print queues. This is because CUPS itself kicks in here. If you run lpstat -e you see queue names which you do not see with lpstat -v The extra queue names are temporary CUPS queues. These are created by CUPS if you try to print on them or to access them in general, and they are removed by CUPS again after 1 minute of inactivity. gnome-control-center probably gets completely confused by that. It can have seen such a queue as actual queue, shortly after such a queue was used, and added it to its list. Now, more than a minute later, the user clicks on the entry, the queue is not there any more, and he gets something unexpected, an error message, an empty option dialog, a "(null):631". gnome-control-center and all other printing GUIs need to be adapted to CUPS' temporary print queues. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1813825 Title: "driverless" printer workflow has bad usability/ is partly broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1813825/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1818517] Re: "Network Login" browser does not remember cookies
Seb, I think what he means is not aoto-fill of the login credentials, but rather how cookies are handled. On modern web sites it is standard now to ask the user before starting to use Cookies. Usually there a[ppears a question on the site the first time you visit it (the question is provided by the site, not by the browser). On a normal web browser (like Firefox or Chromium) once answered the question the answer gets somehow remembered so that it does not get asked again if you visit the site another time. But not only usual web site ask such a question. Captive portals sometimes do it, too. And as the trigger of network-manager does not make them getting oipened in a standard web browser but in some minimum web page displayer probably the answer to the Cookie question does not get remembered locally. Perhaps this remembering is done by a Cookie and the simple displayer does not support (=ignores) Cookies and so the question gets asked again and again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1818517 Title: "Network Login" browser does not remember cookies To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1818517/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1783298] Re: [SRU] AuthInfoRequired negotiate in cups 2.2.7 in Bionic does not work
Thanks Esko for your investigations. I have uploaded and appropriately patched CUPS package for Bionic now. As soon as it gets approved you will be asked for testing here. [Bug 1817033] Re: Unable to correctly print PDF file: Error: Ignoring spurious ET operator.
The problem is most probably caused bei the Ghostscript which does the conversion to the printer's PCL format not being able to cope with the PDF after the form got flattened. Old cups-filters versions (< 1.22.x) use pdftocairo or Ghostscript for form-flattening, newer cups-filters use QPDF and you already observed that with QPDF-based form-flattening the problem does not occur. Do the following on your Ubuntu box where you did not yet install the update. So what you need to do is to set CUPS logging into debug mode ("cupsctl --debug-logging"), print another (failing) job, and check bei the log output of the filters whether flattening happened with pdftocairo or Ghostscript. pdftocairo is the default. Ghostscript is only used if pdftocairo fails. Then you should use the cupsfilter utility of CUPS to run the filter chain independently. Supply ypur PPD file (from /etc/cups/ppd/ to the cupsfilter call. And if you choose "application/pdf" as output MIME type, only the filtering up to pftopdf is done and the output is what comes out of pdftopdf. Take care, by the logging on the screen, that here the same utility (pdftocairo or Ghostscript) as in you failed print jobs is used. Try to display the resulting file with Ghostscript. in error_log you also find the Ghostscript command line used for the actual printing (the one you have seen in the PPD but with all command line arguments inserted). Please run the output also through this command line. If you get Ghostscript erroring or producing wrong output, post a Ghostscript bug with exact Ghostscript command line and the ouput file of cupsfilter attached, so that the Ghostscript developers can reproduce it. [Bug 1815307] Re: ipp printer isn't shown automatically - adding it errors with a CUPS internal error
Michael Sweet was not able to reproduce this bug with the Canon printer he got at Apple. See https://github.com/apple/cups/issues/5512 Please post in this bug report to directly interact with Michael. Before doing so, get a setup of Disco (upcoming Ubuntu 19.04) and check whether your problem still exists. [Bug 1816529] Re: The print order will become reversed
This is not a bug. CUPS prints jobs only in the order of sending if they are printed via the same print queue. If you create two different queues for the same physical printer and print one job into each of them CUPS will process them in parallel and so the order in which the jobs get printed is not guaranteed. The job printed first is the one where CUPS opens the connection to the printer first and that is ususlly the job which takes less time to get through the filters and so it is usually the smaller job, in this case the test page. ** Changed in: cups (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816529 Title: The print order will become reversed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/1816529/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1815307] Re: ipp printer isn't shown automatically - adding it errors with a CUPS internal error
A similar report got also to CUPS upstream: https://github.com/apple/cups/issues/5512 and it seems that there is either a firmware bug in the AirPrint- supporting Canon printers or some problem with the client-side IPP implementation (which is in libcups, part of CUPS). Michael Sweet, author of CUPS, will get a Canon printer on the coming Wednesday for further investigation. [Bug 1815339] Re: Printer stopped printing paper size 4"x6" after update ghostscript to 9.26
The best solution here is a proper fix by Ghostscript's upstream developers. For the case that this fix will not appear soon, the workaround would be to patch CUPS to supply RIP_MAX_CACHE=0 instead of RIP_MAX_CACHE=128m, so that Ghostscript decides on cache sizes by itself. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1815339 Title: Printer stopped printing paper size 4"x6" after update ghostscript to 9.26 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gs-gpl/+bug/1815339/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1815307] Re: ipp printer isn't shown automatically - adding it errors with a CUPS internal error
Probably your printer suffers the problem shown in the following upstream bug report on cups-filters: https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups-filters/issues/22 It is currently worked on this, especially also here https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups-filters/pull/86 and here https://github.com/apple/cups/issues/5484 Please run the following command: driverless This will output the URI of your printer. Does it do so? Then run the following command: ipptool -tv URI get-printer-attributes.test > ipp-attrs.txt Replace URI by your printer's URI which you obtained with the first command. Please attach the resulting ipp-attrs.txt file to this bug. [Bug 1815339] Re: Printer stopped printing paper size 4"x6" after update ghostscript to 9.26
Here is a reproducer (with GS 9.26) consisting in a pure Ghostscript command line: cat appout.pdf | RIP_MAX_CACHE=128m gs -dQUIET -dPARANOIDSAFER -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -dNOINTERPOLATE -dNOMEDIAATTRS -dShowAcroForm -sstdout='%stderr' -sOutputFile='%stdout' -sDEVICE=cups -sMediaClass=Cassette -sMediaType=Plain -r600x600 -dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=288 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=432 -dcupsBitsPerColor=8 -dcupsColorOrder=0 -dcupsColorSpace=6 -dcupsRowFeed=2 -scupsPageSizeName=w288h432 -I/usr/share/cups/fonts -c '<>setpagedevice' -f -_ > out.raster Whether it crashes or not depends on the numeric value of the RIP_MAX_CACHE environment variable. For me all values up to 32.986m succeed and 32.987m and higher fails. Not supplying the RIP_MAX_CACHE also succeeds which is the reason whether the first attempts to run Ghostscript on the command line have succeeded. Strange is that low values of RIP_MAX_CACHE succeed and high values fail, so it does not seem to be a problem of too small memory. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1815339 Title: Printer stopped printing paper size 4"x6" after update ghostscript to 9.26 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ghostscript/+bug/1815339/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
