[Bug 974647] Re: Unable to upgrade 11.10 to 12.04 Beta

2012-04-26 Thread Tim Johnson
I have purged the PPA https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/graphics-drivers
using ppa-purge and am currently running the upgrade to 12.04.
I will report success or failure on completion (some hours due to slow ADSL
line).

[Bug 974647] [NEW] Unable to upgrade 11.10 to 12.04 Beta

2012-04-05 Thread Tim Johnson
Public bug reported:

I receive this message:

"Could not calculate the upgrade

I have run apt-get install -f a number of times but still get the message above.
I cannot identify the broken package(s) to remove them.
Should I wait for official release or can this be solved?

[Bug 919659] Re: Can't save spreadsheet with password

2012-01-29 Thread Tim Johnson
I also have the problem in both Calc & Writer. I cannot open documents saved
with passwords under previous versions of LibreOffice, nor save new documents
with passwords.
All passwords are confirmed correct & the old documents can be opened normally
in OpenOffice 3.2.

[Bug 263441] Re: kompozer crashes in intrepid when opening the recent files menu

2008-12-02 Thread Tim Johnson
Kaze: Apologies for the ignorance, but I had the same bug and downloaded the
20081126.tar.gz
Running kompozer from the extracted directory seemed FAR more stable but did
freeze after approximately 20 minutes (compared to 1 minute previously).
Where should I install the files to match your setup?

Re: [Bug 263441] Re: kompozer crashes in intrepid when opening the recent files menu

2008-12-02 Thread Tim Johnson
Hi Kaze,

It did not crash like 0.7.10. It stopped responding. I'm afraid I cant
tell you exactly what I was doing at the time, but it was not very
advanced. I am busy converting a Front Page site of mine
(www.pteq.net/tim) to Kompozer. I had saved the HTML from the site and
copied and pasted it into a new page in Kompozer. I was adjusting some
spacing and perhaps deleting some stuff when it stopped responding.

It is far more stable now and since that problem (I shut it down and
restatrted it) it has been behaving well.
I am a noob when it comes to Linux, HTML and web design, so I am afraid I
am not much help to you.

Thanks,

Tim

2008-12-08 Thread Tim Johnson
I have used this solution for about a week now with no problems and no
crashes.

I'm using kompozer on Intrepid on a P4 with 1Gb RAM.

So, yes, it looks like a good fix.

Cheers

Re: [Bug 263441] Re: kompozer crashes in intrepid when opening the recent files menu

2009-03-06 Thread Tim Johnson
Hi all,

I fully agree with Bruce. Kompozer may have serious shortcomings and
clearly needs refinement, but to "write it off" is in direct contradiction
to the spirit of Open Source. Perhaps instead of the criticism, the
community could rally around and call up contacts who could help polish
Kompozer to achieve the stability that is required.

[Bug 221119] Re: [gutsy, hardy, intrepid] Blank screen and (EE) intel(0): overrun on pipe B! on i945GM using intel driver

2008-11-03 Thread Tim Johnson
Richard, did you remove compiz-core too? I have exactly the same
graphics card as you integrated into a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo P4. apt-
get remove compiz and apt-get remove compiz-core solved the problem for
me. I miss compiz, but at least I can use my computer.

[Bug 221119] Re: [gutsy, hardy, intrepid] Blank screen and (EE) intel(0): overrun on pipe B! on i945GM using intel driver

2008-10-22 Thread Tim Johnson
Identical problem on Fujitsu Siemens Amilo P4 with integrated Intel 82845GL
Graphics Card.
After Intrepid installation from Alternate CD, no display (Black Screen) until
I disabled compiz (recommended somewhere in the forum). New kernel
2.6.27-7-generic broke situation again.
Tried Kubuntu installation from Live CD and after some tweaking all seems OK.
Changing xorg.conf did NOT seem to change anything and I've read that xorg.conf
is not called in II. A clean, faultless installation remains the best
marketing that Ubuntu can have. It deserves the full attention of all
resources.
So many people are trying Ubuntu on elderly hardware to improve performance...
but it appears as if the attention on bugfixes is on more modern systems.

2008-10-22 Thread Tim Johnson
Perhaps another input/clue to this issue...
I got full output to a projector attached to the VGA Out port while the laptop
screen was black. Under Hardy, I would have to use i810switch to get VGA
Output to the projector.
I also have two entries in the Kubuntu Display Manager viz. VGA and LVDS, but
all options are greyed out. Resolution is OK at 1024 x 768 but I cannot change
anything if I needed to..

[Bug 221119] Re: [i945] [gutsy, hardy, intrepid] Blank screen and (EE) intel(0): overrun on pipe B! on i945GM using intel driver

2008-12-18 Thread Tim Johnson
Well, I had everything working fine (except for compiz) until yesterday's
updates. I applied all updates (as I have done with no problem for some
months) and my system is now VERY broken. I'm not even sure what brooke it,
but when I get to the login screen, as I type the first letter of my username,
my system freezes and only powering down works. No F10, no
ctrl+alt+F1,F2,Backspace, no keyboard, no mouse. Zip.
I've tried recovery mode xfix, dpkg-reconfigure, using old xorg.conf, vga=792
in Grub.. nothing works.
I have 2 questions:
1. Did anyone else have this problem? and
2. Can anyone tell me what update yesterday may have caused this?

I'm running Intrepid on a Fujitsu Siemens P4 notebook, 1 G RAM with
builtin Intel 82845 Graphic card and I was the intel driver in xorg.conf
