[Bug 1969892] [NEW] Focal update: upstream stable patchset 2022-04-22

2022-04-22 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

[Bug 1966841] Please test proposed package

2022-04-20 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Hui, or anyone else affected,

Accepted linux-firmware into focal-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-
firmware/1.187.30 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 1968167] [NEW] FFe: xf86-input-wacom 1.0.0

2022-04-07 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

Hi,

The Wacom X driver has a new Debian maintainer now, so the package has
seen some janitorial changes to the packaging, plus a new upstream
release.

We currently have 0.39.0, 0.40.0 added some new device support:

>>>
xf86-input-wacom-0.40.0 jigpu released this Feb 03, 2021

This release of xf86-input-wacom provides bugfixes and improved support for
several Wacom products. In particular, the "pan" action now behaves more
appropriately in relative mode and heavy multi-touch use should no longer cause
strange touch behavior. This release also adds support for the softkeys which
some Cintiq models provide, although additional work in XKB and the desktop
environment is necessary for them to be fully functional.
<<<

Instead of listing all the commits between 0.40.0 and 1.0.0, a blog post
explaining the 1.0.0 release might be more appropriate:

http://who-t.blogspot.com/2022/02/the-xf86-input-wacom-driver-
hits-10.html

So in summary, the driver has been refactored to allow easier debugging
and testing. There shouldn't be user-visible changes in it.

I've tested 1.0.0 on an Intuos 5m, and it's working fine.

[Bug 1965177] Re: Kernel crash when plugging in dock

2022-04-04 Thread Timo Aaltonen
So you're saying it's a regression due to a kernel upgrade? Do you have
older oem kernels still installed to boot with to verify if they still
work?

The bug seems to be in the ethernet driver (igc).

[Bug 1967086] Re: MIR: mesa-amber

  Hi,

This is essentially a renamed mesa 21.3.x, in order to support 'classic'
DRI drivers which got removed upstream from 22.0 and up. The amber
branch was created as an LTS one to support these old drivers.

This only builds what is needed for the classic DRI drivers, nothing
else is shipped than what these require. The upstream merge request has
  more as to why:

  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/merge_requests/10557

I doubt there's a need for a thorough MIR process to let this through?
It's needed for image builds, or HW support for older GPU's would be
  lacking.

- I've asked kernel team to be added as a bug subscriber.

[Bug 1966221] Re: gnome-extensions-app crashes with "Segmentation fault (core dumped)"

2022-03-29 Thread Timo Aaltonen
gnome-chess fails to start as well, but it's crashing also on newer gen
chips (tested on Alder Lake) with the iris driver. What's common is that
it is also fine on wayland.

upstream had a look at the backtrace, but said that there's nothing that
would explain why it fails on xorg

[Bug 1962349] Please test proposed package

2022-03-25 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Mario, or anyone else affected,

Accepted bolt into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bolt/0.9.1-2~ubuntu20.04.1 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

[Bug 1965737] [NEW] Focal update: upstream stable patchset 2022-03-21

2022-03-21 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

[Bug 1965303] [NEW] Migrate from fbdev drivers to simpledrm and DRM fbdev emulation layer

2022-03-17 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

The fbdev subsystem has been deprecated for a long time. We should drop
it in favour of using simpledrm with fbdev emulation layer.

This requires config changes:

DRM=y
DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION=y

FB_EFI=n
FB_VESA=n (? check this)

SYSFB_SIMPLEFB=y

fbcon will still require FB to be available, but will use the fbdev
emulation layer

At the time of filing this bug report, the NVIDIA drivers don't support
the fbdev emulation layer, so VT's would be broken on them if this was
to be enabled right now. So the drivers need fixing, and this bug report
is a placeholder until we are able to move forward.

[Bug 1875114] Re: freeipa-server package missing on Ubuntu 20.04

2022-03-14 Thread Timo Aaltonen
It's available in experimental to allow easier testing, but there still
are places where it fails (setting up a dogtag CA is a hit-or-miss, etc)
so unlikely to get in 22.04.
