[Bug 762478] Re: [nouveau] No icons shown in unity launcher when using experimental mesa drivers

2011-08-27 Thread Timothy Alexander
Here's what I don't get. This is marked as the duplicate of a host of
other issues. Unfortunately, THOSE are not related to the nouveau
driver. Heck, I'm using an intel driver at work, an nvidia driver at
home (nvidia 8500) and an ATI card (FGLRX) and ALL OF THEM have this
exact problem. I can open trouble tickets for all three individually,
but as the others have they will get marked as duplicates of this one.

This is a serious issue that affects the default desktop in ubuntu, and
one that needs to be repaired ASAP for normal people to use it.
Logging out and back in, or even killing unity, compiz, GDM, and X
entirely don't work. Reboot is the only solution, and that only works
sometimes.

I'll get off my soapbox now, but seriously, someone needs to sit up and
fix this before developing anything more for unity (and having a serious
and catastrophic usability problem sitting open).

[Bug 720446] Re: memory leak in compiz when using places, dashboard, and exposing launcher icons with multiple quicklists

2011-07-14 Thread Timothy Alexander
@#81

Seems that the patch Michael submitted made it into mainline (that's my
guess) which fixes a pixbuf issue, (constant increase without use) but
that there's outstanding issues with lenses, opening the dash, and
various other scenarios, which seem to all require use of the system. A
constant increase without any usage indicates that maybe the pixbuf
stuff wasn't actually resolved.

Can you try using the multiload PPA from bug 779717 and report back if
your constant increase issue is resolved in that case? The PPA has a
patched version of unity that should have been merged into mainline now,
but despite reports since 6/9 that things have improved, I haven't seen
an indication that this patch was merged.

[Bug 315456] Re: Record extension not sending events

2009-07-25 Thread Timothy Alexander
Just an update.

Looking at the upstream comments, it looks like this *may* be fixed in 1.7.
Sounds like the whole system broke between 1.5-1.6, so it's not an easy fix.
However, here a few people are discussing who/when will fix it, if only
briefly...

[Bug 290796] [NEW] Evolution crashes with segmentation fault when trying to open calendar

2008-10-29 Thread Timothy Alexander
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

The attached segmentation fault appears whenever trying to open the
calendar in evolution. I've got all evolution components ending in -dbg
installed, and will attach a valgrind, strace, and gdb output.

interesting behavior on this is if I launch evolution with:
CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution
it actually loads the calendar, and then when I try to switch days it throws a
seg fault. Roughly the same behavior appears when I run valgrind on it, but it
says Killed instead of seg faulting. Both of these outputs are attached in
the same file as the original. If I run it under gdb, it does the same as
CAMEL_DEBUG=all, though it does throw a seg fault.

I don't believe this is related, but I am using the evolution-exchange
plugin to access the exchange server. I have tried removing evolution
from the system, and then reinstalling (using purge, as well as manually
removing the files in the home directory and gconf) but this didn't
help. I do not have the Work calendar enabled while it crashes (I
can't enable it at all, since it crashes as soon as I enter the
calendar).

requested data:

evolution:
  Installed: 2.24.1-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.24.1-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 2.24.1-0ubuntu2 0
500 http://mirrors.cs.wmich.edu intrepid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

I expected evolution to open the calendar, so that I could view and edit
appointments and meetings. Instead, evolution closed with a segmentation fault.

Please ping me with any and all requests for information.

[Bug 254534] Re: Evolution Email not showing Inbox messages

2008-10-23 Thread Timothy Alexander
Workaround:

delete ~.evolution/exchange and ~.evolution/mail

On next open of evolution, it will download all mail on the exchange
server again. This will grab the missing ones. If you look at these
folders, you can see the data is still stored locally, so it didn't get
wiped.

It's an issue that at least I have, and I know a bunch of others that
have it too. With me I don't see it much since I moved to 8.04, and now
8.10, but I have seen it once in 8.10, so I know it still exists.

[Bug 82450] Re: Authentication fails after upgrade to 2.9.6

2008-10-23 Thread Timothy Alexander
Please give debug output for this.

Simply do a:
evolution --force-shutdown

then:

env E2K_DEBUG=3 evolution /tmp/exchange.out

the first will kill evolution, the second will relaunch evolution,
logging at a debug level of 3 for the exchange connector.

AFAIK it doesn't contain your password, just asterisks instead. Upload
/tmp/exchange.out after closing evolution on recieving the error.

Also, try clearing your mailbox name, and retrying the authenticate
button in your exchange settings. it will refill it in, but that worked
for me (after much hardship)

[Bug 209438] Re: Evolution Exchange connector : Cannot connect to server, URL error?

2008-10-23 Thread Timothy Alexander
@Jason

What also works is going in and removing the current Mailbox Name.
Then, you simply click authenticate, it will fill it in (looks exactly
the same to the user) but will also recreate that file. It builds it
correctly for me if I do that. I did have the issue after changing my
domain password though.

[Bug 124896] Re: spe 0.8.2a+repack-1 fails with python-wxgtk2.8

2008-01-24 Thread Timothy Alexander
You know, you could just include the latest version. Right now, there
isn't anyone putting it into debian, and as far as I know it has been
orphaned. I'm always getting it from svn now, considering that A) the
version that's in there is buggy and B) the version that is in there
isn't even close to the latest.

[Bug 152456] Re: rt73 disconnects and crashes usb

2007-10-15 Thread Timothy Alexander
We have quite a loyal following of averatec 2370 users here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=308152
Who would all be interested in this getting some attention. Just as an FYI.
It's pretty much the only outstanding issue to this laptop working out of the
box so far, and I'm looking for a workaround, or compile flag/change that will
fix it.

[Bug 67373] Re: Gnome-obex-server doesn't create required gconf files when installing on Dapper

2006-10-22 Thread Timothy Alexander
I can confirm this. It should, and does not create these Gconf files. As
it stands, I had to compile it from source, and this is when I found out
about this bug. It creates them in the vanilla version, but not in the
ubuntu version.

If you put these in manually, they function correctly, though for some
reason I can't use ~ in the gconf entry. If the Gconf entries are
entered with the Ubuntu package, they work as expected, though they must
be entered manually.

Re: [Bug 40637] Re: front window is moved to back when switching desktops

2006-10-16 Thread Timothy Alexander
Nope. It stopped being an issue on dapper about 4 months ago. Sorry, I
should have closed it.

[Bug 48083] Re: [Bug 48083] Re: Repeatable partition deaths

2006-07-18 Thread Timothy Alexander
Alright, thanks. Sorry about not being able to get the log files, but the
computer that I normally install on died shortly after I reported the bug
initially.
